VS 2008 About Variable Help Me. In My Calculator Project

just Addition only at this time each number 0 to 9 have this code[code].....here what he says..Write the code for the equals button. There's only three lines in total, and here's a little help.
You need to use the other variable that was set up at the top of the coding window, total2. The variable total1 will be added to whatever is total2.The first line of code will be this
total2 = total1 + (something missing here)
Your job is to supply the missing code. In other words, replace "(something missing here)"
Remember that total1 contains the first number to be added. And you know where that came from. The only thing left to do is to add the second number. For the second line of code, you need to transfer the total2 variable to the textbox. For the third line of code, all you are doing is resetting the variable total1 to zero. That's because after the equals button has been pressed, we have finished adding up. If you wanted to do some more adding up, that total1 will still hold the value from the last time. If you reset it to zero, you can start adding some new numbers.

I am attempting to code a VB project for one of my classes. The assignment is to write a program that take the input of Wholesale cost and markup percent, then calculates retail price. When I finished the code, any input I use results in the retail price showing as $0.00.

'Declares a variable to hold the wholesale value

I'm trying to make a calculator application. Just as practice, as I'm new to visual basic (.NET 4.0) coding. I've got this so far.
[code]...
Note, I've not programmed it to do operations yet, I'm trying to get this sorted out first. My issue is, when I enter my numbers, they do not store as a variable, they both store as zero.

I have a multiple form project that is a mortgage calculator and I am having trouble with my Payment Numbers. One of the things I am listing in the amortization table is Payment #. The variable for that is Lyears. It seems like Lyears is set to 0 so it continues and never stops.
Public Class Week3Calc
Private Sub Button3_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles CalcBtn.Click
Dim MonthlyRate As Double 'Initiates variable

It's just a small calculator project so it's no big deal, but after I had built the project, I wanted to change the project name and all the file names that had that string in it (and all internal references to that string). I had played with this before and knew that it was asking for trouble but I thought, "What the hell, I'll try it again." feeling a bit brash.
Well, everything works fine in debug mode, but there is this DOS window that pops up just before the main form does, and it doesn't go away for the entire debugging session. I think I see that window pop up on all other projects too (if the main form doesn't cover it up completely), but normally, it's only there for a split second.

For reasons that are beyond my control, I have three Projects. Projects A and B reference project C. Project A references project B so that it can open a large form in project B. I now need to open that large form from project C, but VB won't allow me to add a reference from C to B because that would create a circular dependency. I found a way around it, though. I created a Timer in A, and when I opened C from A, I passed in that timer. When the user performs a certain action, I enable the Timer from A, and this causes C to open B for me.

I can select any other item from the table without the error. "sender" has the same properties as "receiver" in the SQL table.

I'm moving from VB6 to VB.net and there are a few things confusing. In vb.net, your program just automatically has a form, now the form in in a class and so it may or may not be there. In vb6, the main subroutine controls program flow and I don't see that in vb.net. However, my biggest problem is that I have a com dll that has a connect class with events. I need to be able to access these variable outside of that class. I don't understand how to do that. I can't seem to declare public withevents outside of the class and in the namespace so it can be shared with other code. Its say "not valid" in Namespace.
So what is the best way to do that. Do I create a set/get property for the class that holds this value? And, if I do that, is the connect class automatically instantiated as a part of the COM dll? Right now I don't instantiate the connect class, I assume the application does. But I'm not sure exactly how the property of the class would be set...perhaps I would need to call the property set from the on-connection method. Anybody know what the answer to these two questions are and this 3rd one? How can I have a variable that has "events" have scope across the entire project?

I was trying to make a calculator which takes the amont of copies you want to make and it tells you the cost. Then you type in the amount you want to enter and if its less a message box comes up saying "please enter more money". I've had a few problems
1. when i use formatcurrency the program crashes for no apparent reason
2. if i calculate cost without entering any copies then it crashes (ive tried putting a msgbox in but it crashes anyway)
3. if i get the msgbox to come up saying "Please enter more money" i had to remove the formatcorrency tag.

I've been looking at using PROPERTIES [URL] but frankly I don't understand it that well. Before I invest the time to read, understand, and truly comprehend this, I want to make sure it's the best way. My intended goal is to create my database connection string in a function/sub somewhere, then assign it to this project wide string variable, then I can use it in any form, project wide without having to recreate it.

I am creating a VB 2008 change calculator as an assignment. The program is to use the amount paid - the amount due to calculate the total.(this is working fine). After that, it is to break that amount down into dollars, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies. The problem I am having is that sometimes the quantity of pennies, nickels or dimes will be a negative number. For example $2.99 = 3 Dollars and -1 Pennies.

Ok. I just took my final for VB and the last chapter we did was on procedures and functions. Functions was the only thing out of this whole semester that I was just completely lost. I'm trying to work on this cause I'm taking Advanced VB next so I wanna know what I'm doing. So I'm trying another tutorial in the book and I'm really lost. Here is what the it wants you to do.
Retail Price Calculator
Write an application that accepts from the user the wholesale cost of an item and its markup percentage. (For example, if an item's wholesale cost is $5 and its retail price is $10, then the markup is 100%)
The program should contain a function named CalculateRetail that receives the wholesale cost and markup percentage as arguments, and returns the retail price of the item.
When the user clicks the Get Retail button, the program should do the following:Verify that the values entered by the user for the wholesale cost and the markup percent are numeric and not negative. Call the CalculateRetail function Display the retail cost as returned from the function.
Here's what the calculator looks like and my code so far.
Public Class Form1
Private Sub btnRetail_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnRetail.Click
[Code].....

I need test data for a IP Subnet calculator I have developed. I have tested some obvious scenarios, and all seems good, but the person developing can often be the wrong person to test.
The calculator can do one of two things:
1 - given an existing network and CIDR(mask), and a new CIDR it will create a number of networks with the appropriate number of hosts.
2 - given an existing network and CIDR(mask), and a list of c,h, (c = count, h=number of hosts) it will create the networks.

I have gotten the program to do most everything I need but am having some difficulties and have been trying to fix them for 2 or 3 days now without any success. Will somebody, anybody please tell me how to fix the problems. The calculator should display the distance traveled when the speed and time are entered. This is the only major requirement. However, It needs to have all info input via a list box with popup windows displayed for speed entry and then again for time entry. I would like a label outside of the list box to show "Total Distance Traveled" and I would like the list box to display the following information
