I have searched lots of way to make a 30 day trial limit of my program. They say "Use -Settings- in visual basic application for your variables" to save the information about user (like : registered or not registered or when the program expire). (You can see the 'Settings' when you double-click on "my project" in "solution explorer") Does the data which we use with "settings" saved in our program or somewhere in the computer?

On Vista, it returns true, if it's the first administrator account, and false for anything else... I created a second administrator account on Vista, and it shows in code as "Standard" (or limited) user, the same as if I made a "Managed Account" on Vista...

I have created a license system for my application with MySql about half a year ago. What it would do is take the serial number and send it to my server if the key was correct it would return a 0 if its wrong the return value would be a 1.The problem was that when the serial number was entered correctly my program would create a "fake file" for example vb.dll in the system.And on run time my program would check for that vb.dll if the file exist it would skip my trial program and run the app as a full version. Half year later i think creating a "fake file" and checking for it on start up is extremely wrong and that's not very good security.How can i check the difference between a full version and unregistered version?

View 9 RepliesAt the moment I'm working on an app that has a few buttons. I'd like to have one of those buttons launch an app (that will be included with the app I'm creating) as administrator. How do I do this? Is there a way to make it so that it can be run relative to my app (So it doesn't matter where my app is located, so long as the other app I'm trying to launch is in the same folder or a subfolder.)Also, I'd like to know if I could make it launch the other app with a sort of "virtual right click and run as admin". This app will only be used on Windows 7 and due to restrictions set on the PC's, you cannot run the apps just by double clicking on them. However, if you right click and select "run as administrator" the app runs, without any user input (ie. you have to put in the administrator's password). So in short, I'm looking to emulate this with code when a user clicks a button.
View 2 RepliesI've got an asp.net assignment where I'm to create 7 user's in the ASP.Net Admin Tool but when I open it up and click the security tab I'm getting the following error message:"There is a problem with your selected data store..." problem is, I don't even know what a data store is and VS has never had me select one... any ideas how to fix this? I'm working on an app that will only be used on Windows 7 and the user environment is very limited. Standard users cannot run exe files just by double clicking them. However, there is a bug that if you right click and click "Run as Administrator" on the exe, it runs without you needing to put the admin password in. So, what I'd like my app to do is sort of "emulate" this function on another exe. So the user clicks a button and it launches another exe by emulating the right click run as admin.Is this possible, without putting in the administrators username and password?

View 1 RepliesI'm having trouble getting my app to auto-start by adding a registry key. The problem it is having is checking if the user has admin privileges. I tried setting the thread principal, because before it would always return false when I tried My.User.IsAuthenticated, but when I check if My.User.IsInRole("Administrators"), it still returns false, even when it should return true.Here's my current code. This worked fine without even setting the thread principal when I was just creating a regular Windows Form.

Is there any way to make my programs use a lower version of net.framework other than the newest version 4 that comes with VS2010?I use my programs within a closed network and there isn't an easy way for me to install any software since I'm not the administrator.

I would like my program to overwrite its previous version such that users don't have to uninstall the previous version before installing the new one.
I'm guessing it has something to do with setting Publish Version (Major, Minor, Build, Revision), Assembly Version or File Version.

On Windows XP that worked fine for me. Now when I go into the Project Properties and set compile options to "Release" and click Save, when I close the properties page and re-open it reverts to Debug mode.

I am trying to develop an app that uses a .dll that was developed for 32 bit systems. I get no error in VB or the compile.
Under Debug section of Properties the Platform Drropdown only says "Active(Any CPU)" How do I add x86 to this dropdown?
I need to detect if any version of the .NET framework is installed as we are deploying a .NET 2.0 app via logon script (ie XCOPY deployment) to all PCs in our network. The .NET app will be set to start when a user logs in, so we need to determine if .NET 2.0 (or higher) is installed before we deploy the app otherwise the user will get an error each time they log in. Is there any sure fire way to detect .NET via vbscript or batch file? All of the results I have found on google don't seem to be that reliable.
I have recently written a program that detects installed programs in the same way that Add/Remove Programs does but the problem with this is that even Add/Remove Programs does not seem to show the .NET framework on all PCs that have got it installed (like my home PC for example, definitely has .NET 3.5 installed but its not in the Add/Remove Programs list).
I'm writing a code that will check if .net framework 3.5 SP1 is installed before installing the program.The command I found googling around was System.Runtime.InteropServices.Runtime Environment.GetSystemVersion..I wasn't able to verify the correct .net framework version using this command.I'm currently running 3.5 SP1 and this command is showing v2.0.Is there another way to get the correct .net framework version?
