I am trying to make a user control for information received from a database but i get:The class WFUserControl can be designed, but is not the first class in the file. Visual Studio requires that designers use the first class in the file. Move the class code so that it is the first class in the file and try loading the designer again.
Do i make the user control directly and add the code? Because thats what i did.. Or are there steps to do first before creating it?
I would like to make a method excute right before the user get back controle of the program. No matter what chain of events happens i would like to beable to have a method is always the last thing to excute. I plan on using the method to check the form and the data on it. I have no issues righting the method, I just don't know if their is a event or some other way to make sure it is always the last thing to excute. (Sorta like a validation method) Is their an easy way to do this?
I downloaded this code from the web that Wierddemon gave me in my previous thread. This solution contains 2 projects (CurrencyControlTest and CurrencyTextBox) There are some things that I don't understand:
1. What's the type of form1.vb and program.vb in the CurrencyControlTest Project? Are they classes, or windows Forms or module?
2. This is the code in Program.vb
Imports Microsoft.VisualBasic Imports System Imports System.Collections.Generic
[CODE]...
What's the effect of <STAThread> code?
3. What is exactly the "Namespace" doing in this code? because when I removed the namespace, An error indicating that Form1 is not declared appeared. What is namespace? what does it do? Can anyone give sample code to emphasize the function and how and when to use the keyword "Namespace"?
4. This is code for Form1 in CurrencyControlTest Project
Imports Microsoft.VisualBasic Imports System Imports System.Collections.Generic
[CODE]...
What's with the "public partial class Form1"? what does "partial" do? When i right-clicked on the InitializeComponent(), A portion of code appeared suddenly with the header #Region. What is this? and when re-open the Form1 in "View Code" mode, they're gone.
I want a context menu strip to have 4 specific items. For testing purposes, we call them Item1, Item2, Item3, and Item4.I've set up a context menu strip like this, and I am using it for about 20 different controls. I want these four items to do different things based on what control the user right clicks. The only way I could think of doing this, was to make 20 context menu strips and create a click event for each item. This obviously, seems like a really bad way of doing it.Does anyone have any suggestions or another way of making the click events for the individual Items based on what control is right clicked?
I have an application going here Form1 has a panel on it named TargetPnl. I need my TargetPnl to display my user control named Vviewer when I click my SearchBtn and also need it to disappear when I click another button.
how can i call a VB function - deleteevent() in usercontrol.ascx.vb from a javascript function in clickhandler(e) in usercontrol.ascx. The call should cause a postback because I need the usercontrol to display the changes.I am currently trying to do it by using a linkbutton with style display:none, and calling its click event from the javascript function. But i dunno how to call the click event.
I have an aspx page that has two different user controls. I want to find user control A and be able to set properties, etc., from user control B.
I was thinking I could do something like this:
Dim CMFilters As Control = Me.Parent.FindControl("CMFilters")
...but that doesnt work to be able to set properties and call methods. I somehow need to get the user control and and declare it as that user control type.
Guide on the user control for vs 2008. The problem i face now is when i try to amend the layout of the user control, but it remain the same layout as before. Eg: i got a button in the User control and i delete it and try to run the program (debug) but the button stil remain in the interface? how could it able to show as what i did in the design?
I now realize that it is incorrect because the container's InitializeComponent property initializations have not run yet and they must be run prior to Refresh being called.
How (where) can I run Refreash after the container has initialized this user control.[cod]e...

I have a question regarding user controls.I have made a custom "key manager" class, which has global keydown, keyup, keypress events. It uses a thread in combination with a windows API to handle global key changes. This is the structure:
[Code]...
I can add the class as variable in my class, but I want to make it just like the timer, Errorprovider, Backgroundworker etc. standard windows usercontrols. In short, I want to have an user control that shows up in the bottom of the screen and which has no window.I guess I would have to inherit something, but it all causes crashes till now, as soon I drag/dropped the control into the field. (designer error)
So, how can I make such an user control that has no window, just some events and properties?
I have a Mdi form and I need to put a control on the form which the user can resize. Now I need a container can be dragged by user to increase it's size. The split container will not work in my case as I have childforms and stuff. I want a container whose size can be increased by dragging it on one side.
Im trying to build a user control to enter date as dd/mm/yyyy. I want to create a text box control so the user can enter the date without making a mistake.ex:-Lets assume that the user is trying to enter 31/03/2010 so when the user types 3 first the next number allowed should only be 1 or 0 because there cant be any date more than 31.and if the user enters 31/ then he should only be allowed to enter a month which has 31 days. Im trying to implement this codes in keypress method. So it checks the errors at runtime and prevents the user from typing a wrong value. So far i have got to something like this but Im stuck. Please help
Dim IndexOfCursor As Integer IndexOfCursor = textbox1.SelectionStart chr = e.KeyChar
am having trouble getting a user control to build. Its for a Snake game and the sub for drawing the snake on the grid is throwing up this error when i try to build the user control.
I have a form which has a user control in it added dynamically. How can I change the values in that dynamically generated user control? All my functions are in a module and I will just call them in main form. So in module how can I find that user control and change its values? I tried writing a function in user control form. Like it has 10 txt box and I tried to pass a structure as argument in that user control form but I am unable to do so. when I tried to declare the structure outside function parameter in user control form it works well but not as function parameter..
I have a usercontrol that contains a datagridview and a toolstrip. When creating a windows form that contains 2 of the mentioned usercontrol i gate for example c1 and c2 where both contains for sure the datagridview and the toolstrip hving the same control name for example G and t. in my case i want to apply the security on each form, i do this by reading the access of each control inside the windows form and if the control on the form was a user control then i dont consider it as one entity instead but as a grid alone and a toolstrip alone in order to be able to apply its security accordingly. but in ma case, if i want to disable the first grid and enable the 2nd i wont be able to do so since both grids have the same name. is there any solution for the above.
I'm coming over from VB6 in which you could use 'user controls' to create reusuable custom controls. They were simple and contained and you can easily create several instances of a user control within the same or other apps. In vb2008 there are user controls but I can not figure out how to add them to forms or or other apps. Can someone please give me the the basic steps to add a custom user control to a form or project.
I need to upgrade my application to a modern style interface component like Dotnetbar or Krypton, these doesn't provide a equivalent control for bindingnavigator so I have to create it with some buttons and textbox.I use bindingnavigator only for navigation as in the image
It is possible to create a user control (with 4 buttons and a textbox) that inherit bindingnavigator and to have new style buttons ?
I am modifying some code I found here to test to see if a user has scrolled to the end of the control. In this case the control is a Crystal Viewer but I posted here because I think the issue is based on the vertical scrollbar not the Crystal Viewer itself.
The code flags an error at
Me.CRViewer.Controls.OfType Indicating 'OfType' is not a member of 'System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlCollection'.
I understand the concept that I can't reference something that it is not but I don't know how to fix it. The original code was for a DataGridView.
The ultimate goal (not finished) is to find out when the user has used the mouse or possibly the scroll bar itself and if it hits the bottom of the page of the viewer, then trigger a new page so it looks like they can just keep using the mouse to scroll.
Public Sub New() Me.InitializeComponent() Dim vscroll As VScrollBar = Me.CRViewer.Controls.OfType(Of VScrollBar)
I have a program that I am creating in a windows form to track information about computers that I build for each project I do. The way I have my form layout is two buttons on the top of the form(1 for adding a computer and the 2nd to remove a computer) I then have a Tab window where when I want to add a computer I use the "Add button" click event to create a new tab and add a user control "Computer" that I created that contains all of the default fields that I desire (i.e. serial numbers os type, product key etc.) The "Computer" user control also contains two buttons (1 for adding a PC Card and the 2nd to remove a PC Card) The PC Card is another user control that I have created that has all of the desired fields I require for PC Cards. I am able to add new computers with no problem and name the tab
Dim b As New Computer Dim x As String = Me.TabEquip.TabCount - 2 Dim tab As New TabPage("Computer" + x)
I dipped my toe in the world of user controls as needed to double buffer a panel control and now want to create a picturebox control with a thicker border. Writing a dice based game, the dice represented by pictureboxes when clicked are highlighted and their border style changes FROM BorderStyle.none TO BorderStyle.FixedSingle, which is where I want to increase the thickness of the border. My user control code increases the border thickness using the code below:-
I need to create a user control which can be used in my all projects. I have created a user control with a TextBox Control and a ListBox Control. My goal is that as soon as any character is pressed in the textbox, Listbox's item which starts from that character should be selected. I have done all the coding needed for the functionality but my problem is that when I add this usercontrol to my form, I should be able to change the DataSource, displaymember and valuemember properties at designtime. But I cannot see these properties when I add the control on the form.
I have created a User Control (UC) where user type the information it needed and save it ti MS SQL Database and also have created a User Control dedicated for it's button, since my main form has split container and has two panels, one for UC which contain the button only and the other one for my Main UC where user enter the information.I created a Module that contain the function on adding the data type in UC Main to the database.
[Code]...
on My UCButton named "Save" I just call the function AddUserInformation. But the problem is the variable where it bind to the ucUserControlMain textbox remains Blank, When i query the my database table, only the UserInforID and the DateAdded has been updated and the other column remains blank where the variable get it in the UCMain Textbox...
How do I set a User control (or a class with a few properties) to appear in the tan bar at the bottom of the Designer? I have tried googleing it but, I don't know what that bar is called (Kinda Hard to Google without know what to Google)
I am trying to build a tournament bracket application. In order to build the application efficiently I would like to make a user control "GameControl" that represents a game and give it attributes that represent the names of the competitors "TeamNameA" and "TeamNameB" ,an attribute "Winner" to represent which team should move on, and an attribute "NextRoundGame" that assigns another instance of the user control so that it can assign the "winner" to one of the "TeamName" attributes of the next round in the competition. If the controls were native to VB I feel like I could do it easily (I have only spent about 30 hours self teaching/tutorial following) but I can't seem to find out how to pass values to custom attributes of custom user controls through code.
