imagine following situation 2 forms, one form with some buttons and another form with a RichTextBox on it, if i click on the buttons the text in the RTB changes. Now i want to mark some words in the RTB with the mouse. The form with the buttons is the active form, if i click in the RTB and try to mark something, the form gets focus and comes to the front but if i move the mouse nothing happens. I have to perform a second click at first to mark something.I already tried a lot of things like setting focus to the form if the MouseButtonDown event fires, but all of that doesn't work. The only possibility that works if i set focus to the form when ever the mouse moves over the form, but this is annoying, cause everytime i move the mouse on the form the form pops to the front.How can i manage to mark the text with one simple click? Applications like OpenOffice or Notepad++ are able to do this as well.

View 2 RepliesI Have a simple notepad, and a toolstrip, inside the toolstrip, it has an option to find and replace the text in textbox one. I made a new form, inside that project, and named it find. Now how can I make it so that when they click on that toolstrip option it opens that form? Also, will I have any troubles being able to find the text since they are two different forms?

View 2 RepliesI am working on a application in which I have to show different forms stacked one upon the other. Due to some restrictions, I cannot use MDI and also it has a lot of issues. I am able to get what I want but with a problem. The forms will be stacked, but they do not remain in the parent form. Lets take it by an example. The structure goes like this.
1) There is a form A (My parent form)
2) a second form "B" opens on a button click event on Form "A". (Note: B.ShowInTaskBar=False)
3) again, a third form "C" opens on a button click event on Form "B". (Note: C.ShowInTaskBar=False)
Now, when I minimize form A, it gets minimized but the Form B and C, remains as it is. I want them to get minimized at the same time. I want form B and C should remain as a child form of form A.
I am trying to make a simple email form. I can use text boxes for the email address and subject line, but what do I use for the message section? Do I use a Rich Text Box or just a simple text box? Also on the email address how would I use that code to access the persons email in the code

Firstly sorry if this has already been covered, though I am trying to find out if there is a way that I could make all objects on a form appear in the same area no matter what the resolution of the screen is? e.g. I have a group box located down the bottom right for a 1024x768 screen resolution but when I view it on my widescreen laptop it isn't right down the bottom right where I want it. Is there a way this can be done? I'm assuming i could check the system properties to tell me what the resolution is and if it's widescreen then change the location of the object.

The first thing I did was create a new project and within that project created a new sql database. The database I created is to keep a list of clients and I have fields such as client_ID, Firstname..etc The next thing I did was create a data entry form for all the database fields using textboxes. Also 2 buttons named save & cancel. So when the user fills out the client info and clicks on save I want the data to be written to the client table. I know the code has to be written within the save button but I don't know where to start like opening the connection, writing to the database and closing the connection.

I currently created some buttons (1 per side and 1 per corner) which have a background image corresponding to their position on the form. But it requires to much CPU when I resize the window (and need a lot of code lines to works ) So, I want to know if their is a way to create a border style (and maybe to add it in the Form.FormBorderStyle enum) to make it easily tranparent, etc.
View 3 RepliesI am currently developing an application in which I would make a form full size automaticly.On the location where I set the time parameters, lets say, I want an event to occur every 2 hours, in which the event would be a form becoming full-sized and, on that form a clock which would show that the form will resize on its original state after lets say, 15 minutes.And also I would like to disable the Windows Start keys.I tried some codes but they were for an event if the key is pressed.For this I need the keys to be disabled as soon as I start my application.For the full size form I have used this code:

Now in form 1 there is a textbox which shows the user's ID and when i click a button that links form 1 (user details) to form 2 (transport usage) i want another textbox in form 2 to have the same user ID as in form 1. Update: the form 1 would have a image button that opens a form thats form would act like a window. like the ones you use when you open up a folder on your desktop. but it would minmize into the form 1 as an image button caching its info so you can pop it back up.

I'm using the devexpress xtratab control so the code might look a bit different than the default vb.net tab control.
Now in my MainTab user control file file, I can't for the life of me figure out how to call a control in the form1 where the xtra tab control is placed on. "Me.Parent.Dispose" works for closing the tab when executed via the MainTab control, but that's as far as I can get for communicating with the parent from.
I'm not sure if I have to reference something in the MainTab user control or what in order to communicate with any objects on the default form1.
The basis of the program is that the user enters info into to text boxes then hits a button, when the button is clicked and all the parameters are met, the visible property of a rather large picture box becomes true. What I want to do is have the form start off small, just big enough to hold the labels, text boxes and buttons and then resize when the picture box is made visible.

Does anyone know how to make the controls on an MDI Child form resize along with the form itself? I inherited a project from another developer and I was asked specifically to make the form resize. With advice I received on this forum I now have the form resizing as expected. It will minimize, restore and maximize as well as resize with the mouse pointer.
The problem is that when I increase the size of the form all I get is more blank space on the screen. The controls to do change at all. Although I thin this is normal behavior for a Windows form my bosses all seem to think that the controls resize on every other widows for they see. I wondered if anyone had successfully accomplished this. I was already advised to write a FormResize handling subroutine and this unfortunately did not work.

Is there any way to embed a vb.net form to another vb.net form. What I am trying to do is to make Form-A semi-transparent and Form-B as the embedded main form. So that the final application has a semi transparent border around it . Also I don't want to use a MDI form.

Is there a simple way to make all comboboxes on a form to be readonly upon form load?
Rather than doing:
ComboBox1.ReadOnly = True
Combobox2.ReadOnly = True
And so on...
