imagine following situation 2 forms, one form with some buttons and another form with a RichTextBox on it, if i click on the buttons the text in the RTB changes. Now i want to mark some words in the RTB with the mouse. The form with the buttons is the active form, if i click in the RTB and try to mark something, the form gets focus and comes to the front but if i move the mouse nothing happens. I have to perform a second click at first to mark something.I already tried a lot of things like setting focus to the form if the MouseButtonDown event fires, but all of that doesn't work. The only possibility that works if i set focus to the form when ever the mouse moves over the form, but this is annoying, cause everytime i move the mouse on the form the form pops to the front. How can i manage to mark the text with one simple click? Applications like OpenOffice or Notepad++ are able to do this as well.
suppose i have two forms form1 and form2 and i clicked on button which lead me to the form2..i want i shouldn't be able click on form1 untill and unless i close the existing form window(i.e form2)

I am using Visual Studio/VB.NET 2008 and have a NumericUpDown control on Windows Form. I am forcing user to use Up/Down buttons to change the value, preventing direct entry of a value. This is accomplished be setting the ReadOnly property to True - so far so good. Is there a way to prevent the Insertion Mark from displaying? The Insertion Mark makes it look like the value can be edited, which is not possible with ReadOnly True.
Can I know how to read the text file which has Trade Mark sign in it? Like this one "Unique™"..I tried using System.Text.Encoding.*(all the encoding methods) but it still not working.I know how to read text file. (Actually this is a CSV file which has been exported out from Excel file.)url...Any other way of reading such special characters text file from VB.Net?????

I am having trouble creating inactive users in VB. I watched the tutorial [URL]but it is for C# and the code behind won't work in VB. I need the users to be inactive when they register and send the administrator an email saying someone has registered to be approved.
I am making a "fake Operating System" or "Virtual Machine" or what ever you want to call it. It has all of its own programs. I want Windows XP to stop running so that it will go faster and so on.Okay so I will obviously need coding on the Form1_Load and Form1_FormClosing Subs. Here is my attempt at coding it (Note that this is just the attempt at coding this particular part. It is not necessary to give you everything cause it would be to much and it might confuse people) :
Private Sub Form1_FormClosing(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.FormClosingEventArgs) Handles Me.FormClosing System(My.Computer.FileSystem.Drives.Join) End Sub
I am trying to see find out if a user has been inactive for a certain amount of time by mouse and keyboard events. I want to be able to find this from windows not my form. I am lost as to where to start. I came across this "GetLastInputInfo Function" but am not sure if that is right and/or how to use it.
Got a question regarding declaring a variable. Basically I have a module that writes to a text file using textwriter which is declared for the whole module to use at the top of the code. But what I want to do is clear the contents of the text file when the program is executed (using file.writealltext). The problem I have is that the file is obviously already in use as a result of the textwriter and the file cannot be modified because of this.
My question is: is there any way of declaring the textWriter object later on (not during the initial initialization of the module) without passing the object between functions? Setting the variable as inactive or something along those lines during initialization would be ideal.
For example, a user logs in and sets his status in SQL Server to active. While using the program, it suddenly blacks out. The status in SQL Server remains active. When the user logs in again, he can't access the same account in the program because in SQL Server the status remains active. How can I set the status to inactive during blackouts?
I want to manually add two items as "Active" and "Inactive" in a ListBox. When the user selects "Active", I want to get the value "A" and when "Inactive" is selected, I want to get "I". How do I do this in VB.NET.
I am trying to get a checkbox to activate and deactivate a button. While the button is deactivated it is dimmed or faded out. While Actvated the Text and button is fully visable. I did use ctype to activate the button from the checkbox.
Private Sub COMMEDIT1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles COMMEDIT1.Click
COMMFORM1.ShowDialog() End Sub Private

Is there an ability in VB.NET to deprecate code?I know that in C# there are 'attributes', and tags in java; is there anything similar in VB.NET, other than leaving a 'todo:...?
I have a program that takes data from text boxes and exports them to a text file (all of this works). the problem I'm having is how do i mark the file for deletion? I couldn't find a tutorial on it.[code]
I have a DataTable which I want to check if values in three of the columns are unique. If not, the last column should be filled with the line number of the first appearance of the value-combination.
[Code]...
I solved this by iterating the DataTable with two nested for loops and comparing the values. While this works fine for a small amount of data, it gets pretty slow when the DataTable contains a lot of rows.My question is: What is the best/fastest solution for this problem, regarding that the amount of data can vary between let's say 100 and 20000 rows? Is there a way to do this using LINQ? (I'm not too familiar with it, but I want to learn!)
I have created a few WebRequest extension methods that support cancelling. Is it possible to mark related .net framework methods as Obsolete. That will allow other developers to get warning and encourage them to use a new extension methods.
