I am trying to create a text file using VB.Net with UTF8 encoding, without BOM.
I can write file with UTF8 encoding but, how to remove Byte Order Mark from it?

if a byte value can go up to 255 and two bytes are used to determine the length of packet payload data, how would I convert the two bytes to create one integer value?

-A textbox(multi-line enabled, called "txtinput")
-Some *.wav audio files in my "resources" (2 of them called "A.wav" and "B.wav", of course there are still some more sound files in my resources xD)Note: the button and the txtbox are in the same form.
i want to make a program with this feature:When I type "B A"(note between "B" and "A" has a space)into txtinput, then i click the btnplayvoice, it will look up and check the resources and see if the wav file exists there, if yes, it will play the related(same as inputed) sound files one by one in correct order. That mean in this case I should hear "B.wav -> A.wav" in this order.
How can i write string in sequential file without quotation-mark?

Everything else is working great except for the writing/reading part of it. I had put this together originally without the intention of bandwidth monitoring, but I've decided it would be a good thing to have.I want to have 2 monitoring types: Windows Session Bandwidth Total & All-Time Bandwidth Total (since the program was 1st run on the machine). The counter is on a Timer (2nd of 2), and I want it to write and add the label values each second into the file, then when Form3 is opened, to read the text file and show the results.

We were currently working with our thesis regarding file compression and selected LZW compression. So far, we know how to work on it but we were stucked on how to write a byte.LZW uses 256 and up for the code table because 0 to 255 was used for a single byte.url...Our problem was we don't know how to write a byte higher than 255, s it possible, and read it as it is? View 1 Repliesimagine following situation 2 forms, one form with some buttons and another form with a RichTextBox on it, if i click on the buttons the text in the RTB changes. Now i want to mark some words in the RTB with the mouse. The form with the buttons is the active form, if i click in the RTB and try to mark something, the form gets focus and comes to the front but if i move the mouse nothing happens. I have to perform a second click at first to mark something.I already tried a lot of things like setting focus to the form if the MouseButtonDown event fires, but all of that doesn't work. The only possibility that works if i set focus to the form when ever the mouse moves over the form, but this is annoying, cause everytime i move the mouse on the form the form pops to the front.How can i manage to mark the text with one simple click? Applications like OpenOffice or Notepad++ are able to do this as well.

View 5 RepliesBasically, I want to design a strategy game, where most of the game will be spent in menu areas and making "decisions" (like a Tycoon style game), however, there will still be some graphics, and I would prefer 3D, but if not possible, can resort to 2D. The graphics aren't user controlled, but the moving objects will be the result of the "decisions" the players make.
I really just want to write it once, and have it run on the following Platforms:
Windows Desktop
iOS (iPhone, iPod, iPad)
Android Phones (not strictly required)
(any other platforms would just be a bonus, but at the absolute minimum, all i really want is Windows Desktop and iOS [iPhone, iPod, iPad]).
Now, I don't want to learn objective-c or any other languages which i may have no use for in the future, I really just want to be able to program in Visual Studio (VB.Net or C#, since I can convert from vb.net to c# I will just be writing it in vb.net).
Is it possible to write in vb.net/c# and deploy to all these platforms? I heard of MonoTouch, so i can convert from vb to c# but is this seemless or difficult to do? Do I have to learn and write in another language in order to make tweaks to make it work on the iPhone or Android? So, with MonoTouch, can I still use XNA or is there a different engine that I need to learn/use with Visual Studio?
Alternatively, if I cannot do this all in VB.NET or Visual Studio, what programming language and/or graphics engine should I learn in order to be able to write once and deploy everywhere that is relevant? (So, not fussed about Linux, Mac's or other less used OS's).
Right now, I haven't learnt XNA but am wondering if I should or need to, or if i should learn another engine & language. Basically, I don't really know what I need to learn/know in order to be able to write once and deploy on Windows Desktop, iOS (iDevice's) and maybe Android. So, my question really is, what do I need to learn in terms of both the programming language and game/graphics engine. Right now I know VB.NET and would prefer to use what I know, but if not possible, then am prepared to learn another language & engine combination to be able to achieve what I want, if this is what I need to do, I would like to know what language & engine I need to learn.
I have a basic confusion between serial port and network TCP communication to devices.
My colleague uses a vb struct as the nice easy to read way to create a packet to send out via a serial port. Like this basic code sample below of his vb.net serial call followed at bottom by my c# tcp beginsend network call.
Can I use a struct as well to call out for my TCP network beginsend? By looking at the signature of BeginSend(Byte[] as the beginning of the signature for that method call to send data to a connected socket, I don't see myself being able to use a struct.

When I open my application I can write stuffs and then it will save it to my hosting/server. Then, the application will read the text which I already save.. So far, I can only make the application read it by using WebBrowser control and navigating it to a specified URL. It prints just fine other than it not being in the correct order. The only way I managed to get it in the correct order is by adding a timer and checking to see if there are any jobs in the print queue, which really slows down the printing process, especially when creating 500+ print jobs.
I was wondering if there is a better way to print these files, to where it will print fast and still be in order. A couple things I have in mind, but not sure if possible, is to create a text file or XML file that has the list of files to print and the quantity and queue the printer off that list or to convert PDF files to XPS documents and then using PrintQueue class to add the XPS file as a print job.
The code uses dynamically backgroundworkers which all workers great, but with one problem. If you were to look at line:

You would see that it loops the text file, and starts background work.
The problem is that it does not list the files in order.
For example were you see "file path here" that were you put the file path.
The text file itself would look something like this:
C: est
C:VB
The program starts listing file from the C:est then goes back to C:VB then back to C:est.
I know the reason why, but I can't stop it. I tried pausing that code inside the loop, but with no luck. How would be able to list the files in order?
