How can I create a GUI in vb.net similar to the one above?i.e.there are "buttons" on the left which changes the main window when they are clicked.One way I thought of is create many panels overlapping and show/hide them when a certain button on the left is clicked.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to make custom ListBox with some graphics. Base is ItemCollection - each item contains Panel, 2x label and 2x picturebox. What each panel have to do:
- Change backcolor on MouseEnter and set color back when MouseLeave occurs.
- On MouseDown(LMB) - Panel stays "selected" - different color.
Problem: I can't access multiple panels at a time(and I need to), just one via sender as in function. Of course, I can do it hacky way, but I want to do it effective and regular. Is ItemCollection the right solution or should I do it just like an array of panels? Also I want them in one "box", ItemCollection is good for it.
Second "problem": I need to make labels "merged" in panels, when i MouseEnter them(labels), background color on that panel sets to my default color. when i MouseClick them(labels), nothing happens (need to "select" parent panel). It can be again fixed with hacky way, just disable labels - but then the colors of labels are unchangeable.
I'm trying to write a virtual piano program. Each key plays a sound from the resources directory.How do i play two(or more) sounds at the same time if ex two keys are pressed. Or start playing another sound while one is still playing.
View 2 RepliesI have a sub-procedure which I want to run a different process, depending on what is currently running. I thought the easiest way to do this was by using an ArrayList of each of the campaign details & adding an 'Inuse' field to check to see if the Inuse field is set to 0 or 1. The problem that I have is that when running the process it is all happening at once & the integer hasn't been changed before the next thread kicks in so my threads are running the same campaigns. I tried to avoid the problem by adding a Thread.Sleep(100) delay inbetween starting threads but this led to exactly the same problem.

I am using vb.net to parse my own basic scripting language, sample below. I am a bit stuck trying to deal with the 2 separate types of nested brackets.
Assuming name = Sam
Assuming timeFormat = hh:mm:ss
Assuming time() is a function that takes a format string but
has a default value and returns a string.

I could in theory change the syntax of the script completely but I would rather not. It is designed like this to enable strings without quotes because it will be included in an XML file and quotes in that context were getting messy and very prone to errors and readability issues. If this fails I could redesign using something other than quotes to mark out strings but I would rather use this method.
Preferably, unless there is some other way I am not aware of, I would like to do this using regex. I am aware that the standard regex is not really capable of this but I believe this is possible using MatchEvaluators in vb.net and some form of recursion based replacing. However I have not been able to get my head around it for the last day or so, possibly because it is hugely difficult, possibly because I am ill, or possibly because I am plain thick. I do have the following regex for parts of it.
Detecting the parentheses: (w*?)((.*?))(?=[^(+)]*((|$))
Detecting the square brackets: [[(.*?)]](?=[^[+]]*([[|$))
To save from using several different forms in programs. I'd like to make just a few panels to represent each one. Then when I need to display one I just set it to visible or not visible.
For example, a quiz program. The 1st 10 questions are on one panel, the 2nd 10 are on a 2nd panel. They are both identical except different questions.
The problem is, when I try to put them both on the form, they have to be in different areas or else one will go inside the other. How can I keep several panels on one form without them going inside each other, in other words how can I keep them separate?
I have here another question. I have a panel with about 20 different panels inside of it. There is a "mouse move" event for panel 1, How could I make is so if the mouse is over 1 of the 20 different panels, Have it display the panel name? I would paste source but that's why I'm posting here.
View 1 RepliesI have the following problem, a table "table1" contains 10000 telephone numbers, this table is source for 5 combo box contained in a form, I need that when I select the first tel N in the first combo, this number is not any more available for the combo 2, when I select the second number in the second combo, the first 2 numbers of the table 1 are not any more available for the combo 3 etc. Every record (in form) contains 5 combo. The Tel N selected into the combo are source for other table called "table2". I've try with all the type of query between table 1 and table 2, and use the result as source for the combo, I've try with IIf but this is works only for the first combo.

I need this to control two different boards with the same application.I realize it would be difficult to edit the form if they are on top of each other. Is there a way to place these panels apart while designing/coding, but have them located in the same spot on the form during runtime?

View 2 RepliesI have 14 panels in my form, the user then input a number in the textbox. Then this textbox will now determine how many panels will be enable. My formula would be, userinputtextbox/0.5=panels to be open. Example: 3/0.5=6.
So far this is my code:

Is it possible for the monitor's screen to be split into multiple panels using vb.net? What I'm thinking about is I have two or three panels in the screen, the first panel is running a powerpoint presentaion, the other has an excel worksheet open and the other has a windows and fax viewer open something like that. How to manage multiple tables with the same structure. However, due to the craptastical nature of VB, the solution doesn't really work. It specifically doesn't work because VB.NET requires the implementation of each method/property in the interface to be explicitly declared.
As for the problem that I'm really trying to solve, here it is:
I have many lookup/domain tables in the database that all have the same structure.
The items in these tables are typically used for drop downs in the interface.
I would like to avoid a bunch of boilerplate repository methods to retrieve the contents of these tables (one method per table really sucks when you have 40 tables).
I am not using the One True Lookup Table anti-pattern and this is not an option.
What would be the best way to manage multiple Picture Boxes?I am thinking an array, but if that is so, how would I build this array, and what would be stored in it?
View 1 RepliesI have a VB.NET (2005) application designed by my boss that uses a over 100 input and display controls (textboxes, comboxes, etc.), many with labels associated. My boss asked me to set the tab order, and then trap keypress so the user can use enter to navigate controls. I have 2 apps like this to work on.For the tab order, I could not use the View/TabOrder feature, since there are so many blue little tabindex popups showing, that I can not see any of the controls on the form to click. I tried clicking 'through' the popup with some success, but it still did not give me the tab order I wanted. The tab assistant that came with CodeSMART did not give me the result I wanted, either, so I could use it.
The controls on this usercontrol are spread among many groups, which in turn are spread among several splitcontainer panels. The 1st panel in the main splitcontainer has 3 main groupboxes which are selected via a toolstripbutton ( which sets the desired groupbox to visible and turning the others to invisible.) Example:

How best to manage multiple dat files for serializable objects of the same class. If one of my data files goes past a particular size, I want to create a new file. I then loop through both files when I do processing. Is there any easier way to do this and what's the best size to do this at in terms of performance?
View 1 RepliesMy VB project is large enough that it requires several files. It was originally developed as a Console App and I created each file as a MODULE. All modules could use subroutines, data structures and constants from other MODULES and everything worked fine. I needed to add basic windowing to the app and this required that the app be converted from a Console App to a Windows Forms App. The main window is Form1 which is not a MODULE but a CLASS. The problem is that some MODULE based functions cannot access subroutines, data and constants that are defined within the CLASS Form1 unless they are incorporated into the CLASS file and this makes the CLASS file very large. If I add a new Class file to the project, it also cannot interoperate with Class Form1 in the same way that multi-MODULE code interoperates.
How does one spread CLASS code across several files and still allow it to interoperate as if it were in a single file? Alternatively, how does one create several CLASS files that operate the way multiple MODULE files operate.I am sure that there are all kinds of best practices that I am violating but the goal to to get some prototype software working and interfaced to some lab equipment.
I am considering a piece of code that will manage access to a collection object from multiple threads - add, update, remove, clear. OK ... so I have put a sync lock within each method, but what is not clear from the MS documentation is exactly how the sync lock is behaving. Is it locking the piece of code it wraps? Or is it locking the object? And if it is locking the object a private static object should lock out any code locked on the object within all instances of the object? i.e. if an add operation is underway, an update, delete or clear will wait for the lock to be released.
Finally, if I have multiple threads contending for the sync lock, how is the release managed? First come, first serve? random (from my p.o.v)? Is there a chance that two separate threads could blunder into 'locked' code simulataneously?

I have a map of the world which is set as a background image of a form. I then have individual countries in red and green which appear based on the result of a ping request. So if the IP address pings ok the country turns green, if the ping fails then it turns red. The individual red and green countries are picture boxes with transparent backgrounds.The problem is that, for example, America and Mexico overlap each other and where they overlap it just show the background of the form. Can I have the picture boxes overlap but show each other underneath?See the image below for what I mean as it's not easy to say what I mean [URL]

Now I need to check if this object's date range overlaps with any other object's date range stored in the database. If it does I can't save it in the database but if it doesn't I can.
I usually can find anything I need on google, but this isn't the case this time. I have a com object that is a display control, it displays images from another software that are retrieved from a camera. I am trying to overlay graphics on this image for reference to an operator. I have found how make a picture box image transparent but not over another object. The images are PNG and are set to transparent.
View 12 RepliesI have a vb app that I completed a few months ago and it has been working as it should.I have blurred out part of the image for business reasons. But you can see in the second picture in the top left it has the bottom right of the background overlapping in it.
I copied the exe file over to another computer and Im having an issue where the program will load and look OK but then after about 5 seconds part of the background will show up in the top left corner. Im not sure why. It is the exact same exe on the other computer but it only does it on this computer.I have attached images below so you can see what Im talking about.Im not sure if its a program issue or a setting on my computer.
I have two grids inside a TabItem and in the code-behind I want to be able to add controls to both grids and have all the controls visible at run-time. Currently at run-time the controls added to "Grid3" are not visible while he controls added to "Grid4" are visible.The overlapping grids have the same rows but a different set of columns.I'm trying to do this with two grids so that I can vary the number of controls I can add per row in the code-behind by adding the controls to one of the two grids.Here's the XML:

I have a bound datagridview that contains columns that have a start and an end time for each day of the week (column1 = M Start, column2 = M End etc) If the user enters 9pm - 5pm twice for Monday, I want a messagebox to pop up asking if they are sure they want to overlap timespans for Monday.

Load a picture box with an image. Then, load an overlapping picture box and its image goes on top nicely. But, when I load a third picture box, it goes in between the first and the second. What determines priorities and how can I overlap several picture boxes with the last being on top?

One form is called the "mainscreen" and the other form is a small bar at the bottom of the mainscreen form, which shows different labels on a set timer interval.Anyway, the mainscreen will soon have a system in which it also runs different screens on a set interval.
