I'm using Windows XP and VB.net 2005. I've search for information on how to use the BackgroundWorker to display a ProgressBar during a process and thought I had it correct, but appearently I don't - the bar never shows, much less moves. My goal is to have a Marquee Style progress bar display while my code is looping thru a query result populating a datatable that a DataGridView is binded. Here is my code.

I've got a form that has a ProgressBar on it. The Style is set to Marquee. In the Form.Shown event handler, I call BackgroundWorker. RunWorkerAsync(). In the old version, while this is occurring in the background, the ProgressBar is scrolling, which is exactly what I want.I copied over not only the code from within the file (i.e., the logic code) but also the code from the designer file. So, from what I can tell, there should be NOTHING different between the two files. However, in the new version, the marquee scroll doesn't occur.

I have a progress bar called pbLaunch with the visible property set to false and the animation set to marquee. when the user clicks OK i would like to run a separate thread called bgwProgress that makes the progress bar visible and fires up the marquee just to show that something is happening while form1 loads up.....so far i'm stuckn the ok click event i have the following:

I have read and read and searched and basically come to the conclusion I am going to have to invoke the command but this is new area for me.

I'm including a test project, so if someone is willing to take a look at it, it would be great .
The part I'm having trouble with is updating the progressbar and progress label. The errormessage I receive is in Norwegian, but it has something to do with threads. I suppose I should use Invoke or something, but I don't know where to start..
I have an application that has a ProgressBar added to it set to Continuous style. Everything seems to work great except that the progress bars seems to "fill in" slower than needed. As a test, I created a form with a continuous progressbar and a button. The button code only sets the progressbar's value to 100 (which is the max). Basically, for the test, the value changes from 0 to 100, but the ProgressBar seems to incrementally fill in like it is doing a PerformStep or something. I don't get it. Is there a way to get the ProgessBar to go from empty to immediately full when setting the value from 0 to 100 without the animated filling?

1) I am trying to use background worker to download a large file and update a progress bar to reflect the changes as the large 5GB file is being downloaded, and also update percentage completed to the label.text(lblInfo).
2) As I was goggling I came across some info that a web client is needed to calculate the maximum size of the file and divide by 100 and you can stream it down with the web client. Reading it is one thing, implementing it is another as I spent week trying to get it to work.

I am trying to get an explorer window t display a certain view style when opened withwebbrowser1.navigate("C:\Myfolder") right now it seems to default to a folder view syle of Tile.I snagged some code from MSDN from a Martin Xieand that "sort of" works but the icons appear all wonky. Icons appear extra large and its sort of meh. "smallicons" doesnt work at all.So I thought instead I could somehow just do a sendkey string sort of like

Got a bit of a weird problem with a progress bar. I'm using a backgroundworker, which calls a "Process" function in a different class. The function goes about its business, and sends an update back to the form displaying the progress bar. What I'm finding is that its doing everything right, except update the progress and a label on the form. I've put breakpoints in to check the values of variables being sent to the form, and they're correct. I've also checked the value/maximum of the progress bar during the same break as I step through, and they're being set correctly.
they're just not displaying their updated status. I've tried refresh and application.doevents, to no avail. When the backgroundworker is complete, the values of the progress bar/label are as if I've never touched them! When the worker is complete, the Close button is enabled, so I know its finished. Anybody got any pointers/thoughts on this because I've been battling with this for a day and a half so far. I'm using the same technique as I've used elsewhere in the app to do similar backgroundworker progress updates, but this one refuses to work properly.

I can adopt a custom scrollbar to attain this purpose but this will not serve my purpose because i want this attribute in entire application. Like it the text in textbox gets longer than its bounds than the scrollbar appers are my custom bar not the formal ones

Kind of like in CSS where you can do ".class1 .class2" to specify that the "class2" theme only applies if it is within an element with the class "class1". I do not wish to use any form of external DLLs or libraries for this task. I want to know if it's possible to implement on my own.
I've tried using MultiTriggers with no luck. I have a style that applies to all TextBlocks. I want the textblock to do the following: If the font-size of the textblock is 11 and the parent element's style is "PinnedSuggestion", set the foreground color to "#FF505050". If the font-size of the textblock is 11 and the parent element's style is "Suggestion", set the foreground color to "#FFCCCCCC". The conditions that I have tried to write to make this work, are as follows (the font-size condition is true, but the other one is not). The conditions are inside a style that applies to all textblocks in general.

I wanted a ProgressBarStyle.Marquee animation while a query is running. I don't want the user to think the application is locked up. it's really not progress just MarqueeAnimation. the issue I have is it's not running as a thread or in the background.
