Methods Access Level - Making Public For Only One Class

Mar 20, 2009

I have a class which has various methods that I need to make public to only 1 other class. Is this possible? I don't want to make them public for everybody, just that 1 class.

Making Class Methods Instead Of Instance Methods In .NET?

Mar 29, 2010

I am not sure how clear my question is by the title, but I am trying to make Class methods instead of Instance methods in Visual Basic that way I don't have to waste memory and code creating temporary objects to execute methods that don't need instance variables.

I am not sure if you can do that in VB but I know you can in Objective-C by using either a "+" or "-" sign in front of the method declaration. And in C++ (at least I think, I can't remember) you put the static keyword or const keyword in front of the function. How would I do this in VB if it is possible? Or should I just make a separate set of functions that are not members of a class?

[2005] Working Of Friend Class With Public Methods?

Feb 27, 2009

I understand how the class modifiers work like public, private, protected, friend and protect friend. They are pretty straight forward. However my question is, if I have a class is marked as friend, what should the properties and methods be marked as? Friend or public? Does it matter? I just want my classes at the lowest exposure level that will let my program work properly and that is friend. If I understand correctly, the public properties of a friend class are available to all members of the assembly. Wouldn't that be the same access level if the properties were all friend properties? The reason that I ask is that using the autocomplete feature to make new properties (type property and hit tab) it creates the new properties with the public attribute.

Private Read/Write Access And Public Readonly Access For Variable In Class?

Can't Access Class Library Methods / Properties When Referenced As A DLL

Oct 15, 2009

I've created a class library and built a dll (release build). I've then referenced the DLL in another project (I've tried several). I can see the namespace and classes in Object Browser and I can declare instances of the classes but I cannot use or see any of the methods or properties! there is no IntelliSense whatsoever and calling the methods manualy results in a 'Declaration expected' error.

Within the class library solution I have a unit test project referencing the class library project which works all works fine (and all the tests pass).

Can anyone provide any pointers to what might be going wrong here? I've built plenty of dlls in the past and have had no trouble referencing them at all.[code]...

Using Public At Namespace Level?

Mar 2, 2011

When I use PUBLIC above a Class definition, the compiler gives an error. When I put PUBLIC under the Class definition, I have to qualify the variable with the class name in order to use it in another module.

The documentation says Public can be used at Namespace level. Is there a way to be able to just use the variable name, without any qualifier, across my entire project?

C# - When Should Use Public / Private / Static Methods

Apr 27, 2009

I'm new to C#.Till this moment I used to make every global variable - public static. All my methods are public static so I can access them from other classes. I read on SO that the less public static methods I have, the better. So I rewrote my applications by putting all the code in one class - the form class. Now all my methods are private and there's no static method.

My question: What should I do,keeping everything in the form class is dump in my opinion. When should I use public, when private and when static private/public? I get the public methods as a 'cons' ,because they can be decompiled, but I doubt that.My public methods can be decompiled too. What is so 'private' in a private method? EDIT: I'm not asking how to prevent my program to be decompiled,I'm asking whether I should use static, private and public. And also : Is there are problem in putting all the code in the form class so I dont have to use public methods?

Passing Data Between Forms Without Any Public Methods Or Properties On The Forms

Dec 28, 2009

Passing data between forms without any public methods or properties on the forms. everything but the "Controller" class, which I would like you furnish. I just changed the title from "Intermediate" to "Beginner" This solution is an example of the Observer Pattern. The "Controller" class is the "observed" class, which in this case means it publishes events.

' File Definitions.vb

Public Delegate Sub MessageDelegate(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As MessageEventArgs)

Public Class MessageEventArgs : Inherits EventArgs
Public Message As String

[CODE]...

The program should initially display Form1, and Form2. Clicking of the button on either form will modify the Title Text of both forms. I think that you will find the final end result to be pretty neat, as it works with any number of open forms not just two. I think asking for the Controller class is easier than asking for the code in the forms. My solution for Controller class has 7 lines of content, 9 lines if you include Class, EndClass. A minimal solution could achieved with only 4 lines of content, but it would a textbook example of bad programming.

I want the module to execute first before anything else, and so I call module.main() from the MyApplication startup event.
