This (ancient) product description does not list anything newer than Win 98.I am hoping to relearn BASIC programming and do not wish to spend a lot on current VB versions. I have an opportunity to purchase a used set of discs for a reasonable sum.I'm using a 32 bit version of Win XP Home with sufficient CPU speed, RAM, and HD room.

I am able to view and edit the data using a DataGridView on a second form (tutorial made this very easy). I create a new Windows Forms application and add an AboutBox form which is built-in into Visual Studio. I add a button to Form1 to show the AboutBox when clicked.The AboutBox form has a label with the text "Version" on it. The following code is supposed to add the application's version to that label at run-time:

Even when the application is published to the desktop, it still does not work. It does, however, reflect the correct version number in the title of a subfolder in the Applications folder that is created when the application is published.
i need the the instance when doing a loop someone enters a messege and a number of times they want it to be displayed and then it comes out with the number infront of it eg the person enters the messege 'i like pie' and then enters the the number '5' so the messege would be displayed 5 times like this with the instance like 1. 2. etc

I am a visual basic developer and I use Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate Edition. I've been making applications that can play only in my PC because it requires .NET Framework 4, which is not installed at even Windows 7 nor Windows Vista nor Xp. So, I decided to use Visual Studio 2008 which uses .NET Framework 3.5 SPI. It still doesn't run in common PCs. I believe it is pointless building applications that can perform only on programers' PCs. Is there any way to avoid using 4 or including it for the installation. I also downloaded .Net Framework 4.0 from this location [URL].. on a XP computer and my app couldn't perform because it was 3.5 SPI.
View 5 RepliesI finally figure out where I could get the imagelibrary.I downloaded the 90 trial version of Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition: [URL] opened the .img file with winRAR, did a search of the img file for *imagelibrary*.I was able to extract the imageLibrary from this without installing the trial version.Not sure where it was supose to extract to so I put it in:C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 9.0Common7VS2005ImageLibraryI can find this folder in the form design and so far, it's working with my version of C# Express.

Error Message: "This server version is not supported. Only servers up to Microsoft SQL 2005 are supported VB.NET" I am using VB.NET 2008 and attempting to connect to SQL Server 2008 with XP as the operating system. I have service pack 1 installed in Visual Studio but this error message presists. The articles I have read on this error said to install sp1 as a solution but I have done that and the error persists. FYI, the error does not occur when I am using code to connect to SQL Server but when I attempt to connect using one of the designer wizards this error occure.

I have created a license system for my application with MySql about half a year ago. What it would do is take the serial number and send it to my server if the key was correct it would return a 0 if its wrong the return value would be a 1.The problem was that when the serial number was entered correctly my program would create a "fake file" for example vb.dll in the system.And on run time my program would check for that vb.dll if the file exist it would skip my trial program and run the app as a full version. Half year later i think creating a "fake file" and checking for it on start up is extremely wrong and that's not very good security.How can i check the difference between a full version and unregistered version?

View 3 RepliesFor a few years I developed websites in PHP, but couldn't get a job doing this nearly two years ago. I spent a year teaching (and if your thinking of teaching, my advice is don't! In the UK anyway), but kept handing my CV out to different web development companies. One of these offered me a job, but the downside (or upside, depending on your views) that they only developed websites in ASP.NET. I made the decision for a career change and accepted the job.
In ASP.NET, you can develop in either C# or VB.NET. The guys I work with are using VB.NET, and I have to say I'm struggling with it. I can understand the basics but it just seems weird, especially as I've come from PHP. C# on the other hand, looks similar to PHP. I'm contemplating learning C# instead of VB, but I'd like to know what other peoples opinions are about doing this?
What are some good resources for learning ASP.NET MVC 2.0 (if I don't already know ASP.NET MVC 1.0)?
