I had the great fortune to receive the task of converting an ancient VBA Access order tracking application into a stand alone VB application. Along the way I was trying to parameterize their SQL queries, most everything has gone well but now I am getting an error I can't figure out."Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal."Iam kind of stuck using as much as the old code as possible because the client "knows VB" and wants to be able to edit the code after I'm gone.

I'm having a devel of a time getting what I figure is something simple to work.
I need to set up a Combobox where the list of items is created by accessing a stored procedure.
The SQL code is simply (I left off the code to create the sp);

FROM vw_CodeList

ORDER BY ItemCode
I have a stored procedure, and I want to save the results of the stored procedure into a table. Is there a way I can do this with a simple query without creating the table beforehand.

I have two GridViews, the first works fine as I defined the datasource when I dropped it onto the asp page via visual studio and I specified the table to use.
The other GridView (dgvParams below) has just been dropped onto the asp page and I want to use it at run time[code]...
When I step through the code I can see row and column counts are as expected and call "dgvParams.DataSource = table".
I have a very specifically designed table in a .aspx page. I have an <asp:SqlDataSource> tag that works fine with a DetailsView. I have tried DetailsView, ListView, Gridview etc. and cannot obtain the desired design. Is it possible to execute a Stored Procedure and have the individual results displayed in the individual cells of a web page table? This seems like it should be simple but it apparently is not.

My experience with Stored Procedures is limited and I'm hoping this will solve my payroll problems. Further, for what I'm attempting to accomplish a Stored Procedure may not be the best answer.I'm attempting a Payroll function in which the goal of the Stored Procedure is to fetch the data for a given Payroll Period, do math on the first returned employee, output a calculated result, then move to the next. Let me explain a bit more...Based on a Pay Period ID which is given to the Stored Procedure, I would like it to do the following:Select the employee in that period, add a total of his hours worked, then add that employees total commissions, whichever amount is greater - return that value (along with the totals - such as the total hours and total commission) - then move to the next employee until completed.

The form is up and running but I want to be able to add some more code. I have assigned Stored Procedure to each click event for each button. What I wantr to be able to do is after value is added to text box and button is clicked if there are no reults to display than a message box is displayed with adequate message detailing this. Also is it possible to add a count of records to the form. If the program is not allowed, I aim to provide a warning to the user and possibly close the program. The aim of the application is to identify when users are attempting to install additional software on to the computer so simply monitoring for a certain executable wouldn't work as msiexec is called for all MSI's and as I only want to stop blacklisted programs...this wouldnt work

View 14 RepliesI have created a database with on table that is very similar in setup to ProductCostHistory from the Adventureworks database. Using the adventureworks database as an example, when the procedure is given the parameters of date and productID it will change the EndDate of the currently active cost to the date value and insert a new record with productID as the ProductID and Date as the StartDate, leaving EndDate null for the newly inserted record. I am looking for a way to create a simple form with two textboxes and a button. textbox1 accepts the ProductID parameter and textbox2 accepts the Date value. when the button is pressed, the stored procedure is executed and the table is updated. This seems pretty simple and I am very familiar with tieing stored procedures to a table in a dataset when each prcedure handles only a single simple action (either, SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE but not a single procedure that combines UPDATE and INSERT as the procedure described above does). I've done some reading and played with this on myown but can not find the simplest straightforward way of accomplishing this seemingly simple task.

the first two selects get the value from the table and then are used in the update statement.
The select statments:

First, the values that are retrieved by the first two select statements are always the same. So they could be passed in by the code itself. I don't know that this will speed things up at all, just make the entire stored procedure better and easier to read.
Second, if the "Value Name" should change this store procedure will break (which is possible, but not often).
I am looking for any insight into the Best Practices for this situation.

I am having some difficulty with an xPath expression. I am using an XML document to store queries / stored procedure names in an ASP application. I use a utility function to load the xmldocument (if it isn't previously loaded) and I am attempting to select the node set from the document that matches an Id element. [code] the node variable only returns the first element. I have verified the that the qry string that is used to SelectSingleNode IS the correct Id value (i.e. USER002) - however the node is getting loaded with the USER001 element. It is obviously the xPath expression that is messed up. What do I need to tweak on the xPath expression so that I can return the correct <Id> element and corresponding child <Sql> element.

The 2 parameters will change depending on the attributes of the selected item. Is there a simple way to pass the one value from the stored procedure to the chart to display? This will be embedded in an asp.net application (vb) - so depending on the previously selected item, the values for the parameters and result will change.

I'm trying to change an image to black and white on a variable threshold for use in an ocr program. My problem is that I'm not seeing any results in the image that is supposedly processed. I do experience a small wait when rendering, so i am to assume that it is actually doing something.

View 2 RepliesI have noticed the following but unable to understand why.Whenever a procedure is called in .net it takes more time than when it is called subsequently.Even if a procedure is called after some interval it takes more time than it takes if it is called quite frequently. i am not asking about sql query or sql command. any user definded function or user defined method takes much more time to finish when it is called occasionaly. but when the same procedure is called quite often it finishes a lot faster. why?
View 1 RepliesI am currently building an ASPX webpage for internal use. Basically, there are two buttons on this page and I need each one to kick off a different stored procedure on our local SQLServer based on the needed task. these stored rocedures do quite a bit of work and take 3-5 minutes to finish running. In neither case do I need any kind of gridview or other output from these stored procedures, as they are simply crunching/cleaning data that will populate some tables that the user will then use to complete their task. There are also no inputs or parameters needed.
So i'm OK at ASPX and pretty good at SQL, but have no idea on the VB code behind page. This is what I have ben able to put together based on 3 days of googling. i think i am close but can't quite get across the line.
