I have a problem where I am running a Console App to obtain some computer information on a pc. The pc has the following specs:
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002
Service Pack 3
2 GB RAM
.NET Framework 3.5
The script runs fine on my Vista Ultimate PC. However, my friend runs it on his pc and nothing is written to the file. The directory and the file are being created, but nothing is in the file. Is there something that I am missing about XP Media Center Edition?
Here is the code:
Dim cFile As String = "C:System InformationsystemInfo.txt"
Dim objWriter As New System.IO.StreamWriter(cFile, False)
Try
Dim mObjOS As ManagementObjectSearcher = New ManagementObjectSearcher("SELECT * FROM Win32_OperatingSystem")
Dim mObjCS As ManagementObjectSearcher = New ManagementObjectSearcher("SELECT * FROM Win32_ComputerSystem")

I am trying to delete an item from a text file based on if an item appears in a listbox but keep getting an error " Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection." The line it is returning the error on is the the first IF statement of the below text.
Code:
Dim Lines As new List(Of String) (IO.File.ReadAllLines("Carl.txt"))
For i As Integer = 0 To Lines.Count -1
If Lines(i).Contains (listBox1.text) Then
Lines.RemoveAt(i)
End If
Next
IO.File.WriteAllLines("carl.txt", Lines.ToArray)
End If

View 5 RepliesOK so after a week of aggravating, hair pulling, disaster of trying to figure out what should be simple tasks but beat me down! Ok so I wanted to create a application that would, somewhat manage the users own collection of video games (Lame i know ) you add your games to a listview item, with an image and some sub items, viewing details, using a textbox to search your games... etc i hope you get it
Ok so what i cannot figure out, or find by combing the internet! is how to save all new items the user adds... And including: the item, all the sub items and the picture thats associated with the item.! Instead of posting the code, i posted the application Source code itself here:Source Code , I also started a project here: Codeplex
Later i eventually was thinkin of ading a "wish list" feature where you could add the games you want to get later and also tag it with a release date so when the date comes up, it will let you know, maybe through some alarming way or textbox somehwere... IF you guys want to make it better or fix it! go ahead, i just want this app to save upon EXIT or directing me in the right direction would be VERY VERY much appreciated!
I am new to using databases in applications and i have a code to select data from the database. However, the first time the application starts, new data is inserted into the database which is needed after. But, the data does not appear until the whole application is restarted. How I can refresh the database content.
The current code for selecting the data is:
Imports System.Data.SqlServerCe
Public Class MSSUI
Dim con As SqlCeConnection = New SqlCeConnection(My.Settings.DB1ConnectionString)
Dim cmd As SqlCeCommand
Dim myDA As New SqlCeDataAdapter

Trying to print HTML dynamically but prints the source code of the page instead of HTML content.
I tried to use "System.Drawing.Printing" name space, but the only printing that i get is the actual html code.
Does anyone know the way to dynamically print those files from my application ?
I have a quick question I have 10 picture boxes 5 on left side 5 on right side of screen and basically I would like for when I click on lets say picture box 1 it will display content in the center of the application. Where would I start to add the content as well? Would I have to create a separate form to be able to do this?

View 1 RepliesUnder VB.Net 2005, I created a Setup Project which produced installation files for a windows application. I placed the mdb file in the User's Application Data Folder and remapped the DataDirectory to Environment.SpecialFolder.ApplicationData at runtime. Unfortunately, sometimes the system just did create the mdb file at the Application Directory.
An example was that I installed the program in Windows 7 under a normal user account. I chose inside the installer that the program would be made available to everyone. After installation, the mdb file would be created automatically for the Administrator account but not for the normal user account. For XP, the whole thing worked fine. I am tempted to write a routine to check and create the mdb file if it is not present, but why does this happens and what other opinions do I have?

View 20 RepliesI am trying to create a console application that does the following:
1) read a text file
2) Save the content over to a SQL Server database
3) Use command line arguments to allow user to specify any delimited file
1)This is my code.. (below)what i am trying to do here is to insert username and confirmed password into a sql table called login via a pre created form.I have 1 textbox, 2 Maskedtextboxes and a button.
what i would like is if the passwords do not match in both maskedtextboxes for the system to throw out a message saying passwords do not match please try again..which then clears previous content and requires the user to enter details again. once details are correct and system commits the new user details to the table and throws up a confirmation message.

sample_form.rtf (1.48MB). Number of downloads: 36. I have a working form to give specific choices to the user and retrieve the user's choice. (See code below and attached image in WordPad file.) I know I can use a global ("Public") variable to pass the text of the three choices from the calling form to the called form, but is there a way to pass these from one form to the other exclusively? Of course, my main objective is to have as little memory being used as possible. I would like to make the form in my example (frmDialogChoice) a generic form that can display any set of three choices.
code within calling form:
Dim intSwitchToMake As Integer
Dim insFrmDialogChoice As New frmDialogChoice
insFrmDialogChoice.ShowDialog()

The following VB 2010 code runs, but returns only a black bitmap. I suspect the problem lies with the call to GetCurrentObject but I haven't been able to find good documentation on the arguments for it.[code]
