MDI Form : Set An Exe Position Below The Menustrip?

Feb 3, 2010

I am using vb.net 2008. I have a MDI form with a menu strip added. From different menu's i calling related Exe's and opening in side the MDI form. In this case setting of MDIparent properties to the child form (Exe) in not possible. In my Exe i am reading my MDI windows handle and using the setparent API function. In this case the exe is opening inside the MDI below the titile bar but it is hiding the menu strip. (In vb6 it is working fine - Means the exe opens below the menu strip). Is their any way opening the exe below the menustrip or toolstrip.

Add To Form Cannot Resize Above Lower Part Of MenuStrip

Aug 29, 2009

The last language I programmed in was Visual Basic 6.0.In VB 6.0, if I added menu items, the menu items would reduce the size of the container. For example, if the form had a height of 1000 and I added a menu item then the inside of the form would be 1000 - menu height. In 2010, if I add a MenuStrip control and dock it to the top and then I add another control and dock it to fill, the top part of the other control appears underneath the MenuStrip.I would like to make it so that the other controls I add to the form cannot resize above the lower part of the MenuStrip.

Paste From Clipboard Using CNTRL/V On A Menustrip To A Control On A MDI Child Form?

Aug 18, 2009

I want to include the clipboard from the menu strip of my MDI form, ie Cntrl/C and Cntrl/V. I need a more generic clipboard facility than the examples provided. I want to be able to copy from external programs, like Word, or controls within my program to either a Textbox, RichTextBox or whatever, of which there may be several, on a child form. In VB6 this was so simple, but I'm afraid it is proving frustrating, to say the least, in Visual Studio 2008. I have succeeded in getting data onto the clipboard from an external program, but my problem comes when trying to determine the active control on the child form to where I want to paste the data, so I know how to handle it.

Update Open Child Mdi Form Textbox From Parent Form?

Feb 3, 2012

I have a date selector on mdi parent that updates a property when date is changed. When I open a child form, it grabs the property just fine. However if I change the date again after the child is open the date does not change on the child unless I close and reopen the form as expected. What would be the best way to automatically update all open child forms when the date is changed on the parent at anytime? running a timer to parse the date property is impractical.

Disabling The Parent Form When Child Form Is Open

Jul 18, 2012

disable the parent window form as soon as the user will open the child form....

for eg...consider daniweb...when we click on member login the background form gets grayed out....

Disabling the form is not the option cause it will just disable all the controls of the form....but I need a grayed out screen between the current child form and the parent form....

note - the parent form is not the MDI form...it is just a normal window form and when the child form is open and if the user clicks on the main form without closing the child form then the screen should show some movement...

I tried disabling the form...changing the background of the form to opaque....but could not get through it....

Open (2nd) Form From (1st) Form In Multi Project Solution In VB

May 14, 2011

I have read a lot of the prior questions/answers on this topic but it only took me so far. I have a solution to which I added 2 additional programs. These 2 added programs in essence create a PDF2TIFF converter using GS. I wish to call that form and use it as a utility from my main program. After reading other answers in the forum, I added these two programs as references in the main program and imported everything available, into the main program. I have what seems to be a correct build order set up. I want to open the form in the utility project(s) from a link on my main form. I tried a few things but the only way I could write the code without errors was to instantiate the second program then call that with a button click.
