Nov 3, 2010I'm trying to read a csv file. I'm also try to delete all files in the temp directory on the page load. Everything goes fine the first time, but the second time I get an error saying it couldn't delete the file because it is in use by another process. I'm aware that this process is my vb file, I just can't seem to find what I need to dispose of to get rid of the file lock.

Apr 27, 2009I searched, but couldn't find any useful topics. I am needing to clear the temperary internet files in my program. I need to do this because I have a very long and elaborate process when you start usinging the program, and it may not function right if they are not cleared.

Sep 14, 2009I would like to know how to declare this function, I have seen it used and i have the class SHFileOPStruct and all the components of it, i have then declared a function with the components of the class i am using, and when i try and follow examples of how to use the SHFileOperation function i get an error asking me to name SHFileOperation, how would i name it? Is it not an inbuilt function?
What am i actually trying to do? Delete temperary folders that are created during the running of my program. How can i do this using SHFileOperation

Jan 21, 2010I am trying to write a program that deletes temp files from my entire c drive. windows 7 will not allow any file manipulation. access denied . everything works fine in windows xp. what needs to be changed in my code to allow anyone to install this program on their computer and run it without errors like this. I need to change my code to correct this not windows 7, as other people will be installing this on their systems and they can't be setting their c drives. every answer i've found online is either to change c drive to have no security or set the code to demand uac to run as administrator(which doesn't work )

With such simple code, the last line in temp.seq is truncated as attached and the size of the file is smaller than temp.fxl. See attached files. What do I need to do on the above code. Is VB.NET failing to write 1024 characters on one line.

Problem: Everytime a report is being run it generates a ('.*tmp', '.*rpt') files typically in a temp folder c:windows emp however we can get rid of the *.tmp files by setting a recycle on the application pool but need a way to get rid of the .rpt files.
Found solution: Call Close() and Dispose() on the report object. The way I am doing is crReportDoc.Close() then crReportDoc.Dispose()Actual Problem: If Dispose() is called the report comes up with the following error 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object'

IDE :: Readonly Files Leftover After A Canceled Build?
Dec 26, 2007Running VS2008 working on a customized DotNetNuke version. This issue has come up a couple of times figured I'd see if it's unique to this installation or if it's a IDE bug.
In short I have files that get locked as Readonly and the only way to unlock them is to do a build.
The app I'm working with takes > 60 secs. to build on my box. This error seems to reproduce fairly regularly but you'll need an app that takes a while to build to try it.
During a build try to edit a file.
You should get the error "Cannot currently modify the text in the editor. It is read-only." and a little lock should appear on the tab.
If you wait till the build completes the lock disappears and the file can be edited.
However if instead you cancel the build the file stays Read-Only until such a time as you either restart the IDE or run a build and let it complete.
Looks to me like someone forgot to call the unlock files method in the cancel event handler.

May 15, 2012I have an application that can read certain types of files, and I have it working so that if you do "open with" from windows, it automatically starts the application and opens the selected file.
Unfortnately, I cannot get it to work for more than one file.
System.Environment.GetCommandLineArgs() contrains the following:
System.Environment.GetCommandLineArgs(0) = name and path to the .exe
System.Environment.GetCommandLineArgs(1) = name and path to the first file selected to be opened
System.Environment.GetCommandLineArgs().Length is 2 when the user tries to open 1 file, which makes sense since the first argument is the .exe itself and the 2nd is the path to the file, but it does not increase to 3 if the user tries to open 2 files... meaning that System.Environment.GetCommandLineArgs(2) is never populated Here is some sample code that shows the problem: It will recognize no files or 1 file being opened, but if you try to open multiple it will only show the first.

The problem is that if I save a file I get "myfile.GDL" if I overwrite that I get a new file "myfile.GDL.GDL" ect.the other problem being that the filtering in the windows save/open dialog wont show .GDL files unless I select "all files".

Jan 8, 2011I have many container files on a hard drive, inside of them are many images. I have to get a particular image by using an ID to do this I have to go trough each of the container files and find the one which has the ID in it then I can retrieve the image.
I think I have 3 options:
load all the images at start up into memory, some images may or may not be used. as I need each image go through all the container files and open the image into memory. create a dictionary of IDs and what file they are in at start up and then get each image as I need it without have to go through all the container files.

Nov 6, 2009I am using Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition, and I have a large windows forms project I have been working on. My computer froze up and I had to reboot. After reboot I opened my project, all the files loaded although I got a message telling me that the document load was skipped because of the way the project opened the last time. I am able to debug and run the program so the app is ok. but when I double click on a form to open it nothing happens. Even if i right click it and select "View Designer" or "View Code" nothing happens. No errors just nothing. I was able to open other projects with no problem but not this one, and this project is the only one that matters.

I have two questions:
1) Is there a way to go directly to a page number?
2) Can I write a code to have the table of contents show up on the left side of the document so users can click on to go to different sections of the document, not sure if this needs to be done while creating the PDF or if we can do it by code.
