Jul 15, 2009I have a function that is called getWinTemp, it is below, the point in this is to create a temp file in the directory and then stuff it full of calculations and then delete it when the code has finished with it, does this code do that in .net??

Jan 2, 2010I have an app that I'm using Form2 to display informaitonal messages without having the user to press the OK button. I DIM form2 as a new form as a global and then add a lable to it on the fly and then control it's appearance with a timer. This all works great providing the main form is being displayed however I can't make Form2 show up if the main form is minimized or hidden. I can get around this a bit by keeping the main form maximized but change it's Opacity to zero but once I do that I have no idea how to return the Opacity back to normal when I do want to see the form. Anyone have any ideas on how to make Form2 display if the main from is minimzed or how to control the Opacity of the main form so I can return things to normal? I was thinking that there might be something I could do with hovering over or clicking on the icon in the taskbar but I don't know what that event might be.

Hangman Game - Generate Random Number When User Press Start Button
Jul 29, 2009i've created a hangman game (Fully working) but since you can only "play" with one phrase (10 letters) it gets boring fast. Basic the current game works by on form load i define the slots (10 string which each hold a letter) and give them there letter. then the user type in a text box and if the textbox = any of the slots then the lbl repasenting that slots changes its text from "_" to the letter.
Anyway what I would like the button to do is when the user presses the start button a random number is generated. The program then looks into a textfile and based on which number is generated it takes a certain line (10 characters per line in a phrase) , moves them into the slots and the game starts. Is that possible to code or it too complicated. The textfile will be in the applications folder (words.txt).

Cannot Delete All Files In Temp Directory
Nov 3, 2010I'm trying to read a csv file. I'm also try to delete all files in the temp directory on the page load. Everything goes fine the first time, but the second time I get an error saying it couldn't delete the file because it is in use by another process. I'm aware that this process is my vb file, I just can't seem to find what I need to dispose of to get rid of the file lock.

Sep 14, 2009I would like to know how to declare this function, I have seen it used and i have the class SHFileOPStruct and all the components of it, i have then declared a function with the components of the class i am using, and when i try and follow examples of how to use the SHFileOperation function i get an error asking me to name SHFileOperation, how would i name it? Is it not an inbuilt function?
What am i actually trying to do? Delete temperary folders that are created during the running of my program. How can i do this using SHFileOperation

Jan 21, 2010I am trying to write a program that deletes temp files from my entire c drive. windows 7 will not allow any file manipulation. access denied . everything works fine in windows xp. what needs to be changed in my code to allow anyone to install this program on their computer and run it without errors like this. I need to change my code to correct this not windows 7, as other people will be installing this on their systems and they can't be setting their c drives. every answer i've found online is either to change c drive to have no security or set the code to demand uac to run as administrator(which doesn't work )

May 21, 2009Am trying to copy contents of file temp.fxl to temp.seq. I want them to look exactly them. I don't want to copy the file though. I use the following code

With such simple code, the last line in temp.seq is truncated as attached and the size of the file is smaller than temp.fxl. See attached files. What do I need to do on the above code. Is VB.NET failing to write 1024 characters on one line.

I have a class with many structures and each structure contains variables and im trying to add to my program a way to save the data of that class object with its structures and everything is that possible? I tried manually making some sort of save but its taking too long and proving way too hard for me. Is there a way to just convert it into some general object format and save the object? Is that possible can you just save undefined objects without having to create a format manually for that object?

Problem: Everytime a report is being run it generates a ('.*tmp', '.*rpt') files typically in a temp folder c:windows emp however we can get rid of the *.tmp files by setting a recycle on the application pool but need a way to get rid of the .rpt files.
