Open Multiple Files Using Arguments?
Jan 24, 2010
I'm using this code to load multiple files using windows context menu, but the problem is that the aplication is open many times as files the user has selected.For example: If I select 14 files, an open them with the application, the aplicacion is opened 14 times and load the form only one. But there is a way to send all arguments once? Because %1 send only one file, or there is for example a %2 that send all file pats in one argument? If there is I'vent found.
This my actual code:
Public Class Program
Public Shared Sub Main()
Dim FurBase As New Core.clsDatabase
[code]....

I have a program that works when, a file is opened with it using the right click menu in explorer. But if I select multiple files and then right click and open with my program then it opens multiple instances of my program, instead of just passing the multiple files as arguments to a single instance. The program is written in vb.net but is not a windows form, it is just a module, so I can to tick the Single instance option in the properties in Visual Studio.So how do I open multiple files from explorer context menu in a single instance.

I have an application that can read certain types of files, and I have it working so that if you do "open with" from windows, it automatically starts the application and opens the selected file.
Unfortnately, I cannot get it to work for more than one file.
System.Environment.GetCommandLineArgs() contrains the following:
System.Environment.GetCommandLineArgs(0) = name and path to the .exe
System.Environment.GetCommandLineArgs(1) = name and path to the first file selected to be opened
System.Environment.GetCommandLineArgs().Length is 2 when the user tries to open 1 file, which makes sense since the first argument is the .exe itself and the 2nd is the path to the file, but it does not increase to 3 if the user tries to open 2 files... meaning that System.Environment.GetCommandLineArgs(2) is never populated Here is some sample code that shows the problem: It will recognize no files or 1 file being opened, but if you try to open multiple it will only show the first.

When I select multiple paths from openFileDialog in my listBox control enter only one path by try. This is probably because that I use OpenFileDialog.FileName. I wish to load all selected files in one time...but in this case Add(OpenFileDialog.FileNames) give me the value stringArray in same listBox. I suppose that maybe exict peace of code through ItemCollection which give me opportunity that I import all file path in one try in listBox control. It was interesting because how I may implementing matrix between openFileDialog and listBox..

I'm creating a kind of 'playlist manager' application where the user can create his own music playlist and then play it from my application. However, I don't want to give my application any playback features itself, as there are already so many media players around. Instead, I just want to open the files in the current playlist in the media player of the user's choice.
I have a list of MP3 files (their filenames), how do I now open these files simultaneously in, for example, Windows Media Player? I can get it to play one song, using this command (and Process.Start)
[Code]...
Surely this must be possible? You can open multiple files in windows itself simply by selecting them and opening them at the same time. I'm pretty sure the filenames of the selected files will then be in the arguments of wmplayer so that it can open them, but I just don't know in what format.

I have an application that I start from a sub main. Pass it some arguments and then open a form. Very similar to the log in form. Inside of this application I use 2 dll's. One I had written and another from a vendor. When I run my app from the IDE everything closes down ok. When I run my application from another application(similar to the command line start) the image of the log in box stays on the screen, until I move another window that does a screen redraw.
The process is stopped, by looking at the running process's on the computer. My next question, the dll that I wrote for it is a vb.net class(dll)... I do not have a destructor in it.. I just left the Protected Overrides Sub Finalize() alone which contains MyBase.Finalize() With my dll, could that be causing the window to keep itself drawn? Due to the two dll's connecting to device only within our network. Not sure if remote desktop or citrix causes a screen redraw.

I am trying to use the Command Line Arguments during the Form_Load event to load the file a user might have selected in windows explorer.
I have set some file associations during setup, so that any ".script" files will be associated with my application. However, my application can also open other (text based) files (it's a text editor), and I would like the user to be able to use "Open With..." and select my application to open the files in my application directly.
I have to use the Command line arguments for this, which will hold the filename(s) of the selected files, correct?
So I did this:
vb.net
For Each arg As String In Environment.GetCommandLineArgs()
If IO.File.Exists(arg) Then
OpenFile(arg)
End If
Next
Now, when I open a ".script" file, my application opens and the correct file is loaded. However, in addition, the EXE file is also loaded for some reason! It has opened two files, <Applicationname>.EXE and the file I wanted to open. Because the EXE file is obviously not just a text file, it just displays some random characters, but I don't want it to open that of course...
Also, if I run the application in the debugger (visual studio), it opens the <ApplicationName>.vshost.exe file... So I thought, I can check for the extension of the argument, and only open it if it is a ".script" file. BUT I don't want that! I also want the user to be able to select any file and choose Open With... and select my application. That won't work if I check for the file extension...

I need to pass a file's name as an argument and a switch to the executable I'm using.I'm doing it like this:
vb.net
proc.StartInfo.Arguments = "-z ""C: est.txt"""
I'll know where the files are that I need to grab, but I won't always know the exact names. So, I thought I could grab a collection of the files, store them in a variable, and then pass them as an argument.I tested it with one file like this:
vb.net
Dim File As New System.IO.FileInfo("C:...Desktop est.txt") Dim proc As New Process proc.StartInfo.WorkingDirectory = "..." proc.StartInfo.FileName = "....exe" proc.StartInfo.Arguments = "-z" & File & "additional arugments" proc.Start() proc.WaitForExit()
But, as you all may already know, I can't use the & operator with a string and FileInfo.Would I have to then convert the FileInfo to a string first and then pass it through?

I have a website that has highly granulised access and hence requires many web.config files. The problem is I would like to trim the menu so that only certain users will have access to certain folders. I have enabled trimming and setup roles in the sitemap, however when I access the page the menu is not show, as I am authorized to view the default page which is not in a subfolder. When I type the url of a page in sub folder's I have access.
How should I handle this:
A site map for each web.config file - don't know how this will work Removing the sub web.config file to only use a single one

I'm developing an application to help law enforcement retrieve and analyze logs and other files left by the use of Pidgin (a multi-protocol messenger client). Right now I'm nearly done, but I want to add the ability to search chat logs for user-defined words or phrases and I don't even know where to begin.
Chat logs are stored as html documents in a folder/sub-folder/sub-folder/sub-folder fashion, where each sub-folder can have dozens of sub-folders inside of it, and the final sub-folder can have dozens if not hundreds of chat logs. If anybody could point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful.
(Also, this is the first program I've written since about 2005, and I'm essentially teaching myself VB as I go. If you'd like to see what I've cobbled together so far, you can find the program here.)

I'm trying to copy multiple excel source files into one excel file. My current code is working only for 3 source files..If more than 3 files are there, it doesn't copy the data but creates blank work sheet in the output excel file. Lets say I have a source folder with 5 excel files. Each workbook contains one worksheet with data. It copies upto 3 worksheets along with data into output excel file.
Lets say excel1 contains A as work sheet, excel2 contains B as work sheet ,excel3 contains C as work sheet ,excel4 contains D as work sheet ,excel5 contains E as work sheet .Now my output excel file should look like..OutputExcel with A, B, C, D, E along with respective data.But my current code is giving output as A,B,C worksheets along with respective data but its creating blank sheet1,sheet2 in place of D & E.

At my job, there are multiple web based tools we use. I'm trying to make a program that opens them all with one click, all in separate IE windows.
The code below, once executed, will produce 1 IE window. I'm pretty sure I understand why it's doing this, but not sure how to fix it. What I want is 3 IE windows open, at the respective sites.
VS 2008 & IE 8
Private Sub Button8_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button8.Click
OpenURL("http:www.google.com")
[Code]....
Also, the way my GUI's set up I have buttons for each individual tool, when clicked they open a new tab in the same IE window, as opposed to a new IE window.

I think I have 3 options:
load all the images at start up into memory, some images may or may not be used. as I need each image go through all the container files and open the image into memory. create a dictionary of IDs and what file they are in at start up and then get each image as I need it without have to go through all the container files.
