Each user will have a folder within the root "ournetwork" labeled with their username. I do not have to worry about the directory creation as that's already done for me. These users are all tied into our AD for authentication. Folder name == AD username.
We would like the ability to allow our users to access their mapped "F" drive from outside our network through a web page. I understand that the programming involved (assuming it comes to that) will not rely on their mapped drive but rather the UNC path as posted above.
I am open to suggestions on how to get this accomplished. ASP.NET? Is there just an IIS solution like WebDAV? (although client-side WebDAV on win 7 seems to be broken, so that may be off the table).
How can i create a program using vb.net to add and remove networked printers?

View 1 RepliesI have an windows application (created using visual studio 2005) and it also is using an autocad .api. The user runs Autocad and the user enters various commands that will open forms. One of these forms, contains Windows.Forms.LinkLabels with paths to the autocad drawing files they've attatched (.dwg). When they click on the link, I need the file to open in the existing Autocad they already have open; however, the problem is that it's opening a new instance of Autocad and placing the file into it. How can I make it so it opens in the existing Autocad program already open? [Code]

I have an existing desktop program that I may be able to use to snoop out some of the protocols used, but I have absolutely no idea where to look for a library or api to actually display the video.
Has anyone successfully done this? (Connected to a remote DVR, played realtime video in their own application)
how I should go about getting the names of the computers on a network. And if the comp had file sharing on, get the "tree" of dirs on the computer. Would I need to authenticate myself in order to read/write actual files to it?

I'm planning to make multiple projects, which could connect (or comminicate) together. It's like a designing Network Program. There'll be a main program and some sub programs. These sub programs will send the informations about other computers which is on my network to the main program. If you ask "Why do you need to get infos about other computers?" ,then let me explain. I'm using limited internet connection and I'm not the only one who's using this wireless network. If I get over the limit, I'm paying some limit-upper fee. So, I've to control others internet usage to not to get over the limit. I've just made a small download counter program for my pc, but as I said, I want to convert it to a bigger project, with network solution. I have a program that can save user's input into a text file and load it back, but whenever I try to open the file and exit without selecting the file I get an error.(if i select the file and open it i don't get any errors).

The error is :"FileNotFoundException was unhandled. Could not find file at xxx". also I would like to know how to make it so that the initial file name for file saving is today's date. I do not get any errors when I try to save the file.
I need to open an excel file from vb.net and then search it for specific data. I then need to take those data and insert them into text boxes on a form that i have created. This is all controlled by a button click. I already have some code that will open a file dialog box and let me navigate to the correct file, but I am having trouble with the search portion. I have tried the Find function but I am not sure of the proper syntax. I am using Visual Studio 2008 and Excel 2003.

View 9 RepliesI'm having a slight problem getting my program to load a save file when double clicking the save file.I'm using the Command$() to get the command line argument. I can open a save file by dragging it onto the exe. But not by double clicking the save file (after it's associated with the exe).I though dragging and dropping a file on a program and double clicking the file would open it in the same way, but I guess not.So in short how does file association work and how do I get the file path set to a var when the program loads.

Okay that keeps the track of my log file inside my richtextbox , but there is a big problem there. My richtextbox slows down hard if the log file gets too big.. Sometimes it kicks me out of the program and in taskbar it says Program Not Responding..
I wanted to know if there is a method to read a bigger Log file with out having such issues. (It mostly happens when log file goes over 13000 characters)
I am using VB.net 2005 and I have a timer running on form1 that communicates modbus with a relay io board. There should be constant uninterrupted communication between the two devices and that is working until I open the data logging form2 and import data from a large sequential text file. While I am parsing data, the timer from form1 stops communicating with the modbus device. Once the data is done, the timer of form1 resumes communication with the modbus device. Is there some other method I could use to make sure the modbus communication is never interrupted.? Is there a command I can periodically run from form2 while the data is being parsed that will keep the timer on form1running?

But when I upgraded to VS2008 the utility can no longer locate files in the active system folder. I have UAC turned off and am logged in as the Administrator and it still can not locate a file that I can see in Windows Explorer. The file I am looking for is PakMgr.exe.

I have a vb .net application where the user can choose a directory into which an excel file is written. If the user selects a system directory (yes, my users do this, don't ask me why) then a System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException is thrown at runtime. I am handling this exception telling the user to please select another directory.

In a windows forms application I am attempting to read a file from a share into a filestream.I then start impersonating and write the stream to another share that only my impersonation account has access to.This works fine for small files. But if I attempt this on a 90 meg file I recieve a "Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service" error on the following line:

After the XLSX file is generated the user is redirected to where the file is saved using Response.Redirect...

When the user then opens the file... they recieve this message.
The file you are trying to open, 'filename.xls', is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file. Do you want to open the file now?
As a temporary fix I've instructed my users to press "Yes" when they receive this message and the file opens perfectly fine.
Does anyone have any ideas why IE6 is trying to open an XLSX file as an XLS?
