I have a vb .net application where the user can choose a directory into which an excel file is written. If the user selects a system directory (yes, my users do this, don't ask me why) then a System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException is thrown at runtime. I am handling this exception telling the user to please select another directory.

I have put the exe which is in bin folder to my client place. I have installed .net framework there. and some forms are working fine. But I 'm getting above error for some forms. it has specially status bar, flexgird. I have copied the AxInterop.MSFlexGridLib.dll and Interop.MSFlexGridLib.dll file in to the same place where the exe is.
I am a *** programmer and cannot make sense of the error message I'm getting. I wrote a program and it runs fine on my development machine and also on other machines with Visual Studio installed. However, when I run it on any other machines, I get the message below.All of my other programs that I write run fine on these other machines; so I know this problem must be due to some control that's unique to this new program. I have a utility that is a simple exe that is not installed compiled with VS2005 and works well. But when I upgraded to VS2008 the utility can no longer locate files in the active system folder. I have UAC turned off and am logged in as the Administrator and it still can not locate a file that I can see in Windows Explorer. The file I am looking for is PakMgr.exe.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to make a program in Visual Basic 2008 Express edition which have a textbox where the user can write information to search for in a simple database stored in the program-code.
What I would like is that when the user types a word, a string variable connected to that textbox.text will be treated as a string. BUT if the user types a number in the textbox, the textbox.text will be treated as an integer (for example a "Double")
Basically I am saving text to 2 seperate ini files, also saving the checkbox.checked value so my form can skip the login and auto start. My only problem is when a user saves the information to the INI files after writing them they automatically open up the INI files for display. When the form loads it automatically fills in the fields and if the checkbox is active it checks all the correct details then starts, only problem is it loads the checkbox1.checked ini file then starts the main menu. How can I skip this? and make it not show the ini files everytime they are called upon?

View 3 RepliesI'm trying to move a lot of pictures from FOLDER A to another, FOLDER B. However, some of the pictures already exists in the FOLDER B. This stops my program saying it cannot copy the pictures over because they already exist. I'm trying to make it so any pictures from FOLDER A will copy over the pictures in FOLDER B if they are similar in name. Like... Folder A's pictures will just replaced the Folder B pictures if they have the same name. I was told to use the System.IO.File.Copy tool. Here is my code.

I has been looking for the codes which it avoid the system menu to be showing on title bar when you click on your right mouse button. The only one I found is removemenu method. I don't want to use removemenu as it would disable the title bar close button. I only needs the code to avoid me to click the right mouse button on the title bar so I still has no luck.

When I started to install the application to computers at the office, I realized that, in some machines, application doesn�t work properly. Although it worked for 15 computers perfectly, for 3 computers following error code is displayed:

In a windows forms application I am attempting to read a file from a share into a filestream.I then start impersonating and write the stream to another share that only my impersonation account has access to.This works fine for small files. But if I attempt this on a 90 meg file I recieve a "Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service" error on the following line:

View 6 RepliesMy application needs to change the default signature of outlook and I need to change the value of a registry key for this. But I get a error that I probaly don't have enough permissions. Strange thing is, if I change it manually it doesn't complain.
Error:System.UnauthorizedAccessException : Cannot write to the registry key.

In a solution with multiple projects, one project that compiles to a .exe and a .dll has hitherto been successfully included in the Application Folder list and worked fine. After a recent revision to that project I deleted the .exe reference in the Application Folder list to remove both files prior to using Add > File to relist the new versions, but somehow although the .exe has gone the .dll remains in the listing and I now can't get rid of it - the right-click Delete function is disabled, and I can't see another way to remove this orphan file reference. Also if I now Add > File and point to the new .exe to bring it into the File System Application Folder list, after a couple of seconds the whole VS environment closes without an error message and I have to open VS again to restart.
Does anyone know how to unscramble this - presumably by editing something to remove the orphan .dll from the list? I use VS-2010 but this solution was imported and updated from VS-2005 some months ago, and since then has been fine.
