Order By File Date In Collection?

Nov 10, 2009

I don't think the, System.Collections.ObjectModel has any sort or order by capability.

I have a list of files and I'd like to sort by the file date.

Dim list AS System.Collections.ObjectModel.ReadOnlyCollection(Of String)
list = My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFiles("C:SearchFolder" _
, FileIO.SearchOption.SearchByTopLevelOnly _

[Code]...

This returns the last file, but based on file name and not date. I think I need to add .OrderBy(... just can't get that part.

Order A Collection Based On A Child Property Using LINQ Or A Lambda?

Jan 26, 2012

I get the following string expression provided:"ChildObject.FullName" ...where ChildObject is an instance property on the MyObject1 type.ChildObject has a property named "FullName" and I want to sort a collection of type "MyObject1" based on this child properties "FullName" value.

I can do this all day long on properties directly on MyObject1 but I run into 2 challanges when doing it on a child instance and I can't get all the pieces working. The main 2 challanges are:

MyObject1 has a few different child property types so I can't hardcode the type for ChildObject. The string could be of any type. The sort expression is a String and not a known type.Above the value returned from the last line in the expression (if I run the code outsode the OrderBy method, does provide me the 'FullName' information I need. So the code must be close, but it still does not work.

Any ideas on how I can accomplish this? What I am trying to prevent is hardcoding a series of 'If' blocks on the child's type to then hardcode in its type to the sort or OrderBy method.

LiveJournal Xmlrpc Date Out Of Order Option

Mar 21, 2010

I am having an issue adding posts to LiveJournal via the xmlrpc api they provide. I want to add entries older than what I have listed on LiveJournal already. But I get a response saying: "You have an entry which was posted at 2009-09-06 18:32, but you're trying to post an entry before this. Please check the date and time of both entries. If the other entry is set in the future on purpose, edit that entry to use the "Date Out of Order" option. Otherwise, use the "Date Out of Order" option for this entry instead." I haven't found an argument for the "Date Out of Order" option using the LJ.XMLRPC.postevent method.

Cycle Through Emails In Outlook Inbox In Descending Order By Date Received

Aug 15, 2009

I'm trying to cycle thru the emails in an Outlook Inbox, but strangely, when my code cycles thru each individual email, the order of each in the FOR....IN.... loop is non-sensicle. The loop seems to start from the email in the middle of the list, cycles down to the end, then starts at the last email received and cycles down from there. When viewed in Outlook and sorted by latest email first and descending, the emails seems to be in order. This is my code:

[Code]....

Should I have to sort the emails first by received date descending? If so, how do I do that? If you look at my code, I have attempted that but it doesn't seem to work.

MsgBox("File was last modified on " & infoReader.LastWriteTime)

This gest the Date and Time, but I want just the Date not the time.

Re Order Column Order In A Data Bound DataGridView?

Apr 17, 2010

I have a databound Datagridview. The DGV is bound to a datatable of a strongly typed DataSet created using the wizard. Is there any way to re order the columns before displaying them eg: the Columns are displayed in the DGV in this other Col4, Col6, Col3, Col1,Col5, Col2

But I want to it to show as Col1, Col2, col3, Col4, Col5, Col6?

I realise that the display order followed the Column order in the database table and by extension, the datatable. I have re-arranged the columns in the Database but the Datatable still retains the old order.

File I/O And Registry :: File Read/write From A Collection?

Nov 17, 2010

I am working on a program with multiple collections related to one another for a school project. Each collection needs to have its own defined properties and have the objects written (1 per line) to a text file.

I have all of that working.

When reading the comma-separated line from the file, I want to place one of the properties of the object in a listbox (so that all the objects' names will show up in the listbox). I think I have this part figured out...

My problem is that when you click on the name in the listbox, I would like multiple text boxes to be populated with the appropriate, corresponding properties of the particular object in the collection...is there a way for this to be done?

File I/O And Registry :: Accessing Files In Alphabetical Order?

Nov 20, 2009

For a project, I need to extract all the frames of an AVI video. This I have accomplished by with free program. The problem: it took a 30 second clip and spit back 5400 some frames, and the image only changes every 20 frames or so. I really only need about 270 frames, but I didn't want to go through each one manually. So, I wrote a small program using Visual Studio 2008 and VB to open each image in binary and compare it to the one before that. If there is a discrepancy of more than 55000 (to accommodate slight errors in capturing), it leaves the file be. If not, it deletes it.

After much troubleshooting, I got it all to work. I ran it on the directory containing the images, but when it finished, only the first image remained. I checked into it, and found that the FSO loop I have set up to loop through each file was pulling the files in apparently random order. It will give me the image "bg(01).bmp" and then immediately "bg(1362).bmp" and so on. And the order changes every run.

I tried setting up an array to generate a list of all the files and then sort them, so I could pull off the name of the file, then the next one, ect. but it took over 3 hours to finish processing the array, and then It was using a huge chunk of RAM.Is there some way to "force" vb to pull off files in alphabetical order? here is my, code, it belongs with a form. fPath is a global variable, simply pointing to the source directory.

Printing A File From List Collection?

Nov 16, 2009

I have a program in which I display a list of files in a ListView control and then send them all to a printer. I verified that the file is getting from the list to the print routine;however, I cannot seem to get the print function working right. I have tried several methods after reading many forum posts and articles to no avail. I listed my print routine below for reference; I send the file to the ReadFile sub that programatically creates the Print Document and then calls the Print page event. All in all rather simple, but I keep gettting about a dozen lines of blocks and arbitrary characters and then my document starts printing. I thought that by defining the SizeF structure in the MeasureString method and the RectangleF in the DrawString method I would clear up the problems

Private Sub ReadFile(ByVal _pfile As String)
Try
'Dim fs As FileStream
