I'm running into a problem whenever I try to parse a text file by each line. I know I could use stream reader to read line by line but it is a lot easier to simply use split() and I would also like to know the reason why split() doesn't work.
For example, I created a file "test.txt" and filled it with the following text.
text1
text2
text3
then put the following code in the load event of the form (a button click would work the same).
[Code]...
Okay well, on

and I cannot seem to figure out how to get it to just return that line and not the whole source. Heres my code so far

I am making a small program that will parse the end of a game log file to calculate DPS, hit %, exp .. but I am having trouble with stopping the code from continuing to read matches I find in the last line. Even if the last line has changed it will continue to find say "You hit" and parse the dmg done in the line.

is there a way to parse data from a command line tool such as netstat -b 2?
View 2 Repliescreate a function that parses the input "4+7-4/4*4=" from instr into an array named tokens(1000), as string, and returns the number of arrays, or perhaps a negative number if there is an error in the input.

View 3 RepliesI'm working on an app in which the user copy and pastes from a website into a richtextbox then the program uses the phone number, name and "match by string" from the richtexbox. What is copied is like an Excel table type thing but all the data is in Column "A". The data isn't tab deliminated. If i split on spaces then that will give incorrect results since some of the pieces of data have spaces in them. It looks like I'm about to do some really nasty ugly coding to get to the values I need. take a look at this snippet of data and tell me of a graceful way of getting the name, phone number and that last value in the line if such coding exists? This is the info I would need to pickup on in the first row of data. SHEKITA LLOYD, (xxx) 956-80, and Non-Payment of premium.
This is a sample of the data:
Producer Code Policy # Insured Name Insured Phone Policy Status
08xx57 350xxx1xxx Cancelled Non-Reinstateable 01/09/2012 Non-Payment of premium;
08xx57 350xxx1xxx SHEKITA LLOYD (xxx) 956-80 Cancelled Non-Reinstateable 11/18/2011 Non-Payment of premium;

I need to load and parse a text file and extract data between points on any given line. I can load the file, but it's the parsing that's giving me headaches. e.g. "Phoned Jim and arranged for John to attend site" First I need to search for "Phoned" because the line always starts with that, and then I need to extract "Jim and arranged for John"

i would like to store contents from a text file line by line to arrays before copying them to another text file. what i have is currently like this:
[Code]...
Currently I'm only able to store the whole content into one variable, would like to store the content line by line in arrays.
here is a snippet of the file,
Year 1
mandatory
COM137,Mathematics for Computing,20,2
COM140,Computer Technologies,1-2,20
COM147,Introduction to databases,1-2,20
Year 2

in here is where i am having the problem i don't know how to get all the information i need into one specific array element within an array.. i want to get the year and the module status added to the end of an array element
I have code that reads the whole file, not line by line.
Here is the code:
FileOpen(1, filename, OpenMode.Input)
Do While Not EOF(1)
datatodisplay = LineInput(1)
Loop
FileClose(1)
I would like to know how I can read the file line by line and then add all results into an array list.
i have a text file which contain 3 lines "ha 0.21, hb 0.35, hc 0.44" I want to read the file and get the second character of every line, which are "a, b and c" and assign them to array. My code below able to read the file but only able to get the last line of text. May i know how to do to get every second character and assign to array?
Dim FILE_NAME As String = "C:Test.txt"
Dim TextLine As String
If System.IO.File.Exists(FILE_NAME) = True Then

I must use streamreader to read text file line by line into array.
Here's what I've got.
Private Sub Button2_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click
Dim numbers() As Double = New StreamReader(txtfile.Text)
Dim numbersarray() As Double
[Code].....
dim reader as new streamreader("txt.txt")
dim placeholder as integer = 0
dim line as string

this checks my file for any position with latdif < 30, I want this to be on a timer but I want it not to open the text file everytime is this possible?

I want to set a property of an object that is an array type. If I was declaring and initialising an array of objects, I'd do this: Dim x() as SomeObject = {obj1, obj2}
I don't seems to be able to do something similar with the property, can you do this, does anyone know the correct syntax? myObj.ArrayProperty = {obj1, obj2}
I get Expression Expected Error on the first {
Infer Off
Explicit On
Strict On
Answer : myObj.ArrayProperty = New objType() {obj1, obj2}
I just want to parse simple expressions like IIF(FVAL(PFC) = TRUE, (IIF((ORGVAL(BAS, "2012/12/31") + ORGVAL(DA)) < 6500, (FVAL(BAS) + FVAL(DA)) * 12%, 780)), 0)`After parsing this I should be able to know what functions contains what parameters.
[Code]...
I'm stuck with .Net Framework 2.0, so no Linq or lambda expression goodies for me. Also I want to include the code in my custom library and not just reference it. Can anyone point me to some good library or code.
I just need to parse and not evaluate the expression and find what tokens are in use. After finding the tokens I need to change the expression string before parsing, like if the function ORGVAL is used then the parameter passed has has to be prefixed by an underscore. Like ORGVAL(BAS) will transform to ORGVAL(_BAS). Some functions can have tow parameters like ORGVAL(BAS, "2012/12/31") and this will transform to ORGVAL(_BAS, "2012/12/31")
NOTE: IF THERE ARE OTHER WAYS OF DOING IT PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I WOULD LOVE TO AVOID A PARSER AND LEXER.
I am using VB express 2010 and I have the following problem: I would like to make a line chart of an array.For example: the daily mean temperatures (Temp(365)) and in the x-axis the date.Do I use the chart option of the toolbox? And how do I link this to my data? Or is it better to program everything myself? How do I start?

View 1 RepliesI'm importing a text file of 42 lines, each containing 11 segments to be read. This is then split and put in an array. This is all displayed in TextBox1 for check purposes only.Next I'd like to search the array(0) of each line, and when the searched for text (search) is found, take the (1) (2) etc of that line to store in another variable which will be used for calculations later on in the program.I'll admit my head is now a Do Until = Crazy ! Loop I can't seem to get my head around the syntax and logic.How do I get a search function to check each line until the right text is found, pass the variables on that i need and exit that routine ?

Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click

Say I've got a variable that contains multiple words, each one separated by a newline. What I'm trying to do is add specific text to the end of each line in that variable.
For example, say the variable contains...
alpha
bravo
charlie
etc
etc.
And say the text I want to append is "newtext"
So then I'd like the output to look like...
alpha newtext
bravo newtext
charlie newtext
etc
etc
What I tried to do is to split that variable into an array (separated by newline), and then use a For Each to append the newtext to each line in the array. But it's obvious I haven't messed around with VB in a long time, as something is wrong with my logic. Here's what I've got...
Dim Text_Array() As String
Dim OriginalText As String
Dim OutputText As String

I have an array which contains strings.What i wan't to do is display the array as string, but after every fourth item the string must make a new line.I have the following code:
For n As Integer = 0 To ArrTekeningen.Count - 1
tekst2 = String.Join("-", ArrTekeningen)
If n = 3 Then 'start a new line after 4th item
[code]....
But with this code no new line is made.
I am writing a tournament program for a trading card game. I want my list box to have "Player 1 vs. Player 2" in one line of a list box and i want it so there is no way duplicate Players can be in the list box. Is there a way to code that or do i need to use something else?
