Passing Variables To Stored Procedure

Jan 12, 2011

I have an application that I'm building which pulls dates from a database. The start value is stored as payPeriodStart date and I add 7 days to get the end date. What I need to know is, is it possible to store those values and pass them to a Stored Procedure? Currently my stored procedures have "static" dates in them i.e.:
where dateadd (n, Timestamp, '12/31/1899') - ([LoggedIn]/1000)/60/1440+1 Between '10/3/2010' and '10/10/2010'

Here is my code for the form that will be passing the variables payPeriodStartDate and payPeriodEndDate to the stored procedure:
Code:
Private Sub Button1_Click_1(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles startpayrollButton.Click
Dim ssql As String = "select MAX(payrolldate) AS [payrolldate], " & _
"dateadd(dd, ((datediff(dd, '17530107', MAX(payrolldate))/7)*7)+7, '17530107') AS [Sunday]" & _
"from dbo.payroll" & _
[Code] .....

And lastly since I'm calling those variables payPeriodStartDate and payPeriodEndDate, I assume that my sql query will have to change as follows:
where dateadd (n, Timestamp, '12/31/1899') - ([LoggedIn]/1000)/60/1440+1 Between payPeriodStartDate and payPeriodEndDate
Is that correct?

Passing Arrays Through Fortran Dll From App Turning To Single Element Arrays?

Feb 2, 2010

I have a VB.net console app and I am opening a function in a dll written in fortran. I am passing 3 arrays through the function by reference. When they come back out the otherside they ahve all tunred to arrays of only one element And that element is 0.I read on the internet somewhere that when doing this kind of thing it is a good idea to only pass the first element of the array into the function.I tried changing my function declaration to accepting single elements rather than single dimensional arrays, and now the arrays are the same length before and after the function call, but they don't seem to be changing at all, so i'm not sure that this is working

Passing Multiple Byref Variables / Variables Fail To Change Calling Funct W/ Invoke

Sep 27, 2010

I have code, shown below, that works all except for 1 thing: The variables being passed byRef get passed, but once modified in the else section of the "if me.invokerequired" code of RecordData, the variables are never updated in the calling function. To reiterate, the calling function does not receive the updated data that is in the variables custid and amt. When debugging, I see the data change in the else section of "if me.invokerequired", but once it returns from the callback the data is missing.[code]

Multithreading: Reading/setting Variables, And Passing Variables?

Mar 8, 2011

Question 1: What is the difference between "Background Worker" and "Worker Pool" as indicated within the MSDN samples provided.

Question 2: I noticed while using, AddressOf _Function_, variables cannot be passed; what would be an efficient solution to this?

Question 3: While using multithreading is it required to invoke before setting variables, or only form properties?

Question 4: While using System.Net.Sockets is it safe/efficient to use Application.DoEvents while waiting for new data; or would be using a Do While loop be fine without DoEvents since the action would be multithreaded? Note: there can be up to 2000-3000 sockets in use at a time.

Passing Arrays To Functions?

Apr 18, 2010

I'm trying to pass an array from a 2D Array to a function that takes a 1D array, but each time I do I get the error Number of indices is less than the number of dimensions of the indexed array.. I know using a structure would solve the problem, but unfortunately the assignment is to use a 2D Array instead of a structure. I've declared the 2D array as such:

Const MAX_ARR_SIZE = 63
Public HouseholdCollection(MAX_ARR_SIZE, 2) As UInteger
Const IDENTIFICATION_CODE = 0
Const MEMBER_COUNT = 1

VB, Passing And Returning Arrays From Functions?

Nov 27, 2009

I ran into an error when trying to do this:

Code: ChartBuffer = GetCurrentChart(ChartBuffer) The error says Conversion from type 'Integer()' to type 'Integer' is not valid.

Apparently I have some type casting issues, the problem is I'm not trying to cast any types at all. I'm trying to set one array chartbuffer equal to the array returned from GetCurrentChart.

[Code]...

In the constructor of this class I am trying to set the buffer equal to the loaded chart because if I try to write information to a buffer that isn't already initialized, and then save it, it will overwrite stuff that might already be saved in the file as 0's or something, and I don't want it to do that. To prevent this from happening I'm simply going to initialize the buffer in the constructor by setting it equal to the loaded chart. Finally after that is all done I can write new information to the buffer and save it to the file without writing a mostly empty buffer (full of zero's) to the chart that is saved with information in it already.

project, but have decided to take another direction on it, after much and continued struggling.I started out trying to use data binding, but was advised to use straight SQL statements in the code. So what I'm trying to do now: I have 2 forms, frm1 and frm2. frm1 has a combobox, which is showing all the data fine from a table, and an OK button. Upon clicking on this button, I need frm2 to load, correctly populating its textboxes and comboboxes with the corresponding data, based on the selection made on frm1. This is what I have so far:

Here's my question, how can I pass a value back from the 2nd sub to the 1st? So if I want to sum intA plus intB, and want to return that value to the first sub, how do I do that? [code]

Matching 2 Variables With Arrays Or Lists To Get 3rd Value?

Nov 11, 2011

I have a pipe delimited file with 3 values on each line, something like this:
0001|234587|Bracket, 3 x 3 x 0.125, Steel
0001|254378|Bracket, 4 x 4 x 0.125, Steel
0003|234587|Hinge, 4 x 4 x 0.125, Brass

The first Value can be duplicated in the file, the second value also can be duplicated. There are no instances of BOTH values duplicated on 2 or more lines. I need to read another file and get the first 2 values, then look up those two on one line to get the proper 3rd value. The "other" file looks a bit like this:
0E0522070001EF54ED7823458700FF00FFA5A5A5A5
-----------XXXX-----------XXXXXX--------------------- (X's are the data, the rest is filler to comply with some code unknown to me)

Right now I have code to read all into an array (split on vbcrlf), then split each line on "|" and populate three arrays, I then go thru every element of the first column that matches the value I am looking for and test that the second column also matches the second value and if so, return the third array contents at the same index. This seems crude and inefficient. Cannot use a hashtable (I don't think) as it only supports 2 values. A List(Of) doesn't seem to work either and I don't want to use a database.
