VS 2010 - Duplicate Control - Datagridview With Code In It Plus Buttons That Do Various Things To It

Feb 9, 2012

Wondering if there is a way I can duplicate controls and have them work properly? basically, i have a datagridview with code in it plus buttons that do various things to it etc etc. ideally, i'd like to be able to have two of these datagridviews on show. So, user presses button, second datagridview shows. Note that I don't want them to both display the same data - they should both be independetly editable..

Duplicate Code And Method Overloading / Overriding

May 18, 2012

This is a general question about Object Orientation and specifically overloading functions in .NET (or any other framework or language). I am looking at an application that has a lot of duplicate code. For example, have a look at the following functions: [code] I would of thought that best pratice would be to put: //code that is specifically relevant to Test1 variable in a separate function as it is common in both functions.

Disabling Button Before Executing VB Code To Prevent Duplicate Records?

Feb 15, 2012

I need to disable a button after its pressed so the user does not have the ability to click it again as this would replicate the process in some cases.After alot of searching I found some tips - alot of code I found I could not understand.This is what I have come up with:

On page load:
If Me.Page.IsPostBack Then
'lblDetails.Text = "disabled"

[code]....

I also read somewhere that I should use: System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(1000) to delay the process or something - not entirely sure why I would do this though.Although, the problem with my above code is that when the code behind page performs validation checks, it exits sub before executing my INSERT SQL code - so when it does this it also disables the button.I am not entirely sure if the above method is fool proof or whether it is a **** piece of code that won't work 100% of the time.On another website I found a script to put on the actual HTML page with <script> tags:

Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
disableSubmit(frm) {

Object Creating Code & Passing Values To SR?

Mar 29, 2011

This code works, as is, on my system. Problem lines are commented out. The last three commented lines are the problem.It creates the objects alright but a line that should send a message into the list box doesn't work. I am almost sure that the problem is in passing information into the sub routine. Forgive my use of ALL CAPS as it helps to see my comments on comments. A few comments in passing information to SRs would be helpful.

Also, how it is that I can comment out the .Name option and it still works?(I hope that this shows up properly. If it ends up as a big useless paragraph, I will repost it after learning how to do it properly.

Here is my

Public Class Form1
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load

Passing Combobox Selection To FillBy SQL Code

Jun 22, 2010

I have one problem solved, properly converting text to numbers. Now I want to use that conversion as a selection parameter in a FillBy statement.I have two comboboxes linked to an Access 2007 database. One box lists the names of the States in the US. This is what I used for the Table Adapter Configuration Wizard for the combobox "State". [code] ST_UID is an Integer. I created a label with a bound value to STATE.ST_UID so that when a user selects the name of a state from the State box the appropriate ST_UID populates the label, (i.e, California has an ST_UID = 5). The problem is when a state is selected, I only want the Counties for that state to appear in the County box, i.e, COUNTY.ST_UID = 5 if California is the selected state. [code] Problem is I'm not getting any results, the "County" combobox is blank. I've tried a lot of variations on the code, such as % StUID %, etc., but no luck. I have experience with VB 6 but am a beginner with .NET.

Passing Winapi 'HANDLE' Type Between VB & C Code

Feb 23, 2011

I have written some C/C++ code that uses the winapi functions CreateFile WriteFile SetFilePointer etc. to read & write some large (>4 GB) binary files. Some colleagues who are more familier with Visual basic than C, want to modify some of their existing code to call my C code functions.

I have turned my code into DLLs that I have successfully called from other C programs. I have also created a small C DLL that doesn't use the winapi functions & called it from a small VB program.

What I haven't so far been unable to do is pass the HANDLE type variable between a C function that uses the winapi functions & the VB program that call it so the VB can call another of my functions & pass the HANDLE.

In my attempt to do this, the declarations in the header file for two of the functions in the C DLL are:

[Code]...

When I step through the VB code in debug mode there is no problem with calling OpenSegyRW, but at WriteToSegy I get the error message:System.Runtime.InteropServices.MarshalDirectiveException was unhandled

Message=PInvoke restriction: cannot return variants.So what am I doing wrong & is there any way to pass the winapi HANDLE type between VB & C code? BTW indents etc. get lost when I paste my message into the forum. I hope this is decipherable.

Using Multiple Forms In A User Control And Passing Values Between Them?

Feb 6, 2012

I need a nudge in the right direction. I have a user control that has the main form and it calls a secondary form to gather some additional information in some cases. I need to pass the information back from the secondary form to the primary user control form so I can validate the data and save. In the secondary form, I have the following code:

Dim myFrm as new frmOperationComments
myFrm.OperationComments = [comments from form]
myFrm.OperationDate=[Date from form]

I have tried creating two public properties on the user control and setting them, I have created two properties in the user control form called OperationComments and OperationDate. I can set both of them, but when I close or hide the form and go back to the main user control form, the values for these properties or variables are not set. How do you set the values on the main form from a calling form within a user control?

VS 2008 Writing Some VB2008 Code To Control Four 7-seg LED's / Serial Port Control?

Nov 10, 2010

I'm writing some VB2008 code to control four 7-seg LEDs I bought from Velleman. They came with some example code in VB 5.0, and with instructions telling me to input 5 bytes at a time in the format Chr$() & Chr$() & etc. for the rest of the 5 bytes. When I try to do this using VB2008, it rejects the $ sign, so I've tried it using the Chr() format, which VB2008 allows. However, it doesn't work. Is Chr() the new version of Chr$() or are they different entities? In sending data to the LEDs, I'm using LiveComPort.WriteLine() as my command. (My serial port is called LiveComPort) I also tried it with LiveComPort.Write() asthe command. I know that my serial port and the LEDs are working, because they respond to the demo program provided by Velleman.
