I am trying to make a 'puppet' change into a ball when I press e.g. the right arrow key. I used getasynckeystate(keys.right) to check for the key in a timer. The moving is working well but I don't have an idea how I can make it change in a picture of the 'puppet' changing which then changes into a ball. Does someone know how to do this?
View 3 RepliesWhat I have done is named a bunch of picture boxes "Q," "W," "E," etc. (the whole alphabet) and named picture that correspond to these picture boxes ("Q.png," "W.png," and so on) and added them to my resources.
For example, the following code would give the picture box named "Q" it's corresponding image "Q.png":

Of course, it's kind of a pain in the backside to copy and paste this code and change all the Q's to W's and so on, so I was hoping to create a function to do the job for me:

This works fine when I give the location of the image (the full path ) on my computer - but then of course it will not work if I use the solution on a different computer .
So I have made a folder named "Pics" inside my application and added two images into it.
How do I get to this local folder in the following code?

The main issue that I am having right now, is that I am basically clueless as to how I go about moving the player on a keypress. I have a timer that on tick checks to see the value of a an element in an array using a counter on another form as well. The picture boxes are initially set to false for visible and they should become true when the timer ticks and the element is equal to 1. I know that the pictureboxes have a valid picture in them because if I initialize them as TRUE first, it shows up properly. I also know that I am entering the IF statement because I can put a simple MsgBox with any string in the IF statement and it will display when the requirements are set. But yet the pictureboxes still do not change.

View 1 Repliesi have a program i've made a while, and one of the users wants to be able to load his own images to the background instead of the plain grey that is there now. i've searched and searched, and basically can get this working

i just slapped that onto a button just to get it to work as i was experimenting. but that only works for a file of that name, on my computer, in that folder. what i'm looking to do is get it so a user can browse his own directories for images and upload them as the background on the form. and be able to save the settings as well. but so far i have only seen different ways to load preset images that you can load. if it's even possible? i'd assume that you'd use the openfiledialog command, but i'm not that well versed in vb as of yet.
Although my code compiles, it does not result in a change of the background picture of button1 here is my current code. Is it possible that my condition contains some error? or is the command itself wrong? [code]
