Populating A Form With An Array Of Controls During Runtime?
Jan 20, 2010
I am new to VB 2008 express (I am a 'C' coder but have played with VB6 before). I am writing a simple program that will use the serial port. What I would like to do is, upon some trigger event, open a form, and depending on the amount of serial ports available, populate this form with an array of checkboxes with each check box corresponding to an available serial port. The user could then choose a port which would then determine the PortName.
I'm wondering, when I add dynamically controls in runtime in the form - is there a way to save this controls, and they appear the next time when you run the application?
I want to create a Panel dynamically on the form when a button is clicked. Also labels with given TEXT are also to be created when create label button is clicked. then we should be able to print the form contents as it appears but without any buttons. We should be able to resize the panel to adjust the page size.
Updating a VB6 prog in VS2005 on Windows 7. The prog has an MDI + child forms and there are a number of content types, with varying numbers of controls being set up and positioned from setup files. On forms which are not child forms I can easily add controls at run time like this:
Dim lab As New Label With lab .Left = 0 : .Top = 0 .Width = 800 : .Height = 800
[code]....
This doesn't work on a child form, no label is visible. Can't see any obvious problem in quickwatch.

Supposedly I have a datatable containing 2 columns (controlname as string, containing the name of the control and controltype as string containing the type of the control), for example ("label1", "Label") On runtime i want to loop over the datatable and create the controls from that datatable and add them to the form accordingly. but the problem that i don't know how to convert the control name to a control type, meaning that i want to convert label1 to a type of control Label, inorder for me to set its properties on runtime. so how can i do this and is there a way to convert the string to control according to it controltype.
At design time in the IDE, you can ctrl-click or drag a box around multiple controls on a form and move them all at once. How do you do that at runtime. I need to be able to create image maps based on textual copies of medical claim forms that are generated from different systems and the ability to create dynamic label controls and move a single or multiple controls and resize is required. How does MS do this in the IDE?
I have an MDI application which uses fixed sized forms. I've started to change the forms to sizeable and anchored the controls so they move when the form is resized. If the child form has a menu this jumps onto the parent menu (as it always has done) but all the controls move up the form at runtime and leave a space at the bottom of the child. If I change the form in design mode to cut through the bottom controls i.e. so the form doesn't appear tall enough, it corrects itself at runtime. Is there another workaround as it looks misleading in the designer.
I am building a form that will eventually list a group of functions on the left. If you drag a function onto the form, it will create a listbox and a label at the loction you dropped it to. If you drag a function into a listbox, it will add that function as a listbox item. I have this working kind of. The problem is that once I create a new listbox, I am no longer able to add items to the previous ones. Here is my code:
Public Class Form1 Private MouseIsDown As Boolean = False 'rivate Functionlist As ListBox
I have a large form of 16 rows, and 5 columns of comboboxes. Three rows will be filled with the same information as a list of about 20 items. Two rows contain the same information of only 5 items.
I've got a window with multiple datagridviews. Each with data from a separate dataTable. All of which are part of the same DataSet. There are a couple of places where one DataTable has a field joined with the lookup dataTable from the dataset. For example a lookup table for LugSizes has a field called LugSize that is also it's primary key. Another table called Device Terminations has a field called LugSize to which the user can only select those values from the LugSize lookup table. I thought it would be as simple as using the Items.Add method for the combobox column whenever a new lookup table row was added to its own datagridview. Unfortunately, when I try to initially clear the items list, the data error event is triggered for every row.
Here's a sample of my code if it helps:
HTML
Private Sub FillLugSizeComboBox() Try If colDTLugSize.Items.Count > 0 Then colDTLugSize.Items.Clear()
I am developing an application in visual basic 2008. I want to populate a drop down list onthe fly with values extracted from the database. I want both the displayed and value items to come from the same.
I have seen this happen before but am not sure how I resolved it in the past. On runtime the controls of my form change from the windows 7/vista format to an older version format as shown in the attached image.
How to display the controls in the format on the left (new windows format)
I'm creating a simple programming assignment in Visual Basic 2010.(Don't know if it matters, but I'm working in MS Visual Studio. The program consists of two windows forms and a module.Everything works fine except for this one loop I'm trying to use to display whether the answers were "correct" or "incorrect".[code]
Any hunk of code that loops trough the windows form controls array, and based on top/left to bottom/right, resets the TabIndex property? I've mashed a huge form together and expect my user community to want to move things around, and I don't want to have to fool around with this over and over again.
I am writting a vb.net program that I want to read in data from Excel and then populate a multidim array with it.I have been able to import the Excel data into a DataGridView (haven't been able to go directly to an array). Now I am trying to loop through the DataGridView to populate the array. This is were I am having troubles.[code]
I have to convert what i put into an input box, and somehow convert that into an array.
My project is to put in some random numbers from an inputbox into a listbox, then somehow converting those numbers into an array and find the median of those numbers. I'm able to do the math, and I'm sure its probably 2 or 3 lines of code
I am trying to design a little application that allows user to enter daily attendances for 4 weeks.exercise 11, Murachs beginning vb.net) The form consists of a combo box that list the number of weeks, text boxes to enter daily attendances fro mon - fri, a button to save the entries, a button that calculates the average weekly attendance and a button to close the form.
The issue I am having is saving the user entries. I use a 2 dimensional array with 4 rows and 5 columns. Within the click event of the save button I user a for loop to loop through the array and populate each dimension depending on the week selected. Once they are saved I clear the text boxes, set the combo box index to the next position , I.E selecting the next week unless it is week 4 hence the limit has been reached. Finally move the focus to the monday text box.
When I run the code I keep end up with 2 errors depending on how i change the code. The first is that i exceeded the index of the array and the second is that "" cannot be cast to an integer. My code thus far is shown below. I have edited the data so much that I am now just confused.
I'm sick today and cannot think straight but I have to get this done. I have an array: newarray() I need to populate this array if a condition applies as such:
Currently I'm trying to fill a 3x3 square with random x's and o's to make a tic tac toegame. Unfortunately the game doesn't seem to output all the x's and o's. Logically, from what I can see, it should be able to but it's not.
Shared Sub twodimension() Dim tic(2, 2) As String Dim min As Integer
how to go about getting data populated from a data grid view to an array of structures? I have a data grid view with 6 fields and 10 records that match elements in my array. I declared a list of songs based off of my structure Song.
I made a quick search but couldn't find any help I need to put the values of a checklist box into an array. I've found several solutions on the internet but all of these don't seem to work for integer arrays. This is what I've got so far
" Dim RemoveValues(checklistRemoveBrew.CheckedItems.Count - 1) As Integer Dim C As Integer For C = 0 To checklistRemoveBrew.CheckedItems.Count - 1 RemoveValues(C) = checklistRemoveBrew.CheckedItems(C) Next "
