Port SolutionEvents From C# - Run-time Errors ("COM Target Does Not Implement IDispatch")
Jul 4, 2010
I am trying to use the SolutionEvents interface in Visual Studio and the sample it have is in C#. When I try to port it I get compile or run-time errors ("COM target does not implement IDispatch"). The problem is with the bold line on the bottom with the "+=" which does not work in VB. Removing the + causes a run-time error.
I am trying to parse incoming data from a serial port that appears to be XML format but a few problems arise when going from a simulated setup to the real deal. I first made a this program at home using a serial port emulator and com port connector program that reads from a text file and then sends it through the com port, I then read it from the com port it is connected to it. My program is able to parse the incoming XML perfectly fine, I'm using an XML Literals syntax.
The problem I run into is when I setup my program with the device and try and parse the data that is coming out of it. The data I receive sometimes has a few lines of garble before it starts seeing my expected XML. Of course these few lines of garbled text throws me an exception, but even when it appears I'm getting a good clean start of my XML data my program still throws exceptions such as "unexpected end of line 1 line number (different lines)" or "multiple root elements line 1".
Am I going about this the right way? using XML Literals to process my XML string properly or should I use something else that will allow for not well formed XML? or am I just missing something. My device outputs data every 500ms and I can poll my device for stored data. An example of what I am receiving sometimes and what I am expecting is below. "The first few lines of text sometimes appear and sometimes don't" [Code]
I want to write a program that can control port communication in a PC by blocking certain port based on the admins request and also monitor incoming and outgoing network traffic. Can i achieve this using vb.net winsock?
I am implementing a custom iDispatchLLInvoke handler for VB.NET - some of this is working. So Far - I have been able to intercept and provide custom handling of simple functions and property calls - but I am stuck when I try to set a property and get an error "Invalid Pointer (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004003 (E_Pointer))".
I am using the new .NET 4.0 ICustomQueryInterface to do this. In Summary - I intercept and provide my own implementation of iDispatch - I load the dispIDs on the first call - and return a the dispID for each call within GetIDsOfNames - this ID is than passed to Invoke where reflection is used to get the value and return the result.
When I attempt to set a property - a call is made to GetIDsofNames and I return a valid dispID - the application than crashes with the error above and no call is made to Invoke. As a result - I am assuming that the issue relates to my interface definition been wrong becase the code never get's back to .NET code - see below for this code:
<ComImport(), Guid("00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046"), InterfaceTypeAttribute(ComInterfaceType.InterfaceIsIUnknown)> _ Public Interface IDispatch Sub GetTypeInfoCount(ByRef pctInfo As UInt32)
Recently, I've been running some tests with C++ and VB.NET to compare execution speeds. In the last thread I posted, I talked about how I had encountered the fact that C++ was executing just as fast as VB, but got that issue resolved. Now I'm hitting my head against another wall:I had made a DLL for VB.NET to test out this theory and compare in just one program side by side execution time of identical VB.NET and C++ code. But the interesting thing? VB.NET's execution time improved such that it was now exactly identical to the execution time of C++. Spending some time with the problem, I discovered that the "Target CPU" option in advanced compile options in Visual Studio 2008 was the culprit!
Since I'm running 64-bit Windows 7, I figured making the target CPU x64 would yield the best execution time. Wrong. Here are the results in execution time of a Windows Forms application for VB.NET,calculating all the prime numbers up to 10,000,000 and getting their sum.
Any CPU: 15.231 seconds x86: 10.858 seconds x64: 15.236 seconds
Below is the code I'm using, feel free to test it yourself:Public Class Form1
I have a VS 2008 VB.NET Solution, which is quite large. Every once in a while, if I take latest code from source control, I get hundreds of errors. These aren't real errors. They are all about classes not implementing functions/events from interfaces (which they DO implement).
"Class [class name] must implement [event or function name] for interface [interface name]"
I usually end up spending couple of hours doing a combination of: building/rebuilding the solution project by project, cleaning the solution, deleting everything locally, taking latest... etc. At some point, everything just magically builds.
I finish to makethe forms and the code of my project, but when I try to make the executable file it shows errors about some forms that I created as test but I deleted so I wonder where I need to go to take them out and try to build again my executable smoothly?Example: Unable to open module file :'C:....CrystalReport2.vb': The system cannot find the file specifiedNote: That CrystalReport file was eliminated because I didn't need it.
i want to implement trigger in my vb.net project i am using sql server 2005 that come with vs 2008. all that i need to do is i want to create database trigger that fired on every day at say for ex. 9:00 a.m.
Why can't a sub implement an interface and handle event at the same time? The following gives my a syntax error:[code]I know I could handle this kind of logic with another method, but that is not the point. I just want to understand the reasoning behind this.
I doing something really simple on vb studio 2008 express, i added a table from a datasource directly to the windows form and created a datagridview the table has no data yet, it has a primary key id int, and some columns some of then allow nulls, i added the entire table with the common steps and when clicking in the add button of the bindingnavigator twice i get the not nullable column is allowed exception but i dont know where does this exception ocurrs beacuse it breaks with no code line another thing is that i clic on the delete button when theres no data and i get an invalid operation exception again with no code line break why is this configured that way? am i missing any step in order to avoid this exceptions?, i tried to handle the dataerror event of the datagrid and set throwexception to false but some errors are not trapped like the ones at the top of this?
how to implement a counter in label which decrements every time page is loaded in asp.net(vb)? It would be better if that counter value is accessed from and updated into database..
I've tried this on buttonclick but the value is reset automatically to intial value everytime as the button is insert and page is reloaded
Protected Sub InsertButton_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Dim entries As Label = FindControl("label1") entries.Text = entries.Text - 1 End Sub
I have a vb6 app, the error from event view is Faulting application vb6.exe, version 6.0.81.76, stamp 3592011f, faulting module vba6.dll, version 6.0.0.8169, stamp 358b0c74, debug? 0, fault address 0x0001982e. For more information, see Help and Support Center at [URL] And a message box pop out. Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. The code is
how to capture an on/off signal from a relay and count the seconds of elapsed time between the cycles on a com port? Also, which pins on the com port should be used for this?
When I click the VS 2010 icon to open it I get a popup box error "Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation". I then need to right click the icon, click "Run as.." change "Current user" to "The Following user" then enter in my windows credentials and it opens fine. This is happening suddenly (Windows XP) and I don't know why. It wasn't happening before and I haven't started logging in with a different user or anything.
I have a .net application that uses customerrors web.config module to display meaningful messages for errors. It works without any issues for 500 errors/exceptions caused by non-ajax and ajax components (updatepanel). However, in a scenario where updatepanel's asynchronous request times out, there is no error raised at all. I was able to see the timeout in firebug and come up with a solution that would at least display the error message as an alert and then redirect the user to the 500 error page using javascript but it's not quite doing what the rest of the application does in case of an unhandled errors like these. I basically just want everything to go through "LogEvent" mechanism so based on the severity of the error, it does the necessary work. This 500 error page doesn't have anything in the Server.GetLastError() for these timeout scenarios. Is this an expected behaviour? Can it be changed so I do have access to these timeouts in Server.GetLastError() OR maybe just run this error through "LogEvent" mechanism? Is there a better/more graceful way to handle this issue?
Below is my code to give you an idea, not exactly what I have in my application but pretty close.
I am encountering the following issue So i have a device that sends stuff at the serial port, i then parse it and put it into an array of bytes like that:
Dim HCI_Command_Rcvd_Byte() As Byte All good till here What i wanna do is make an array and put this result every time the serial port gives me a new result, for example:
[Code]...
Basically what i wanna do is let the port parse the messages, fill in the array with the result at an empty spot in this array and then i will have a separate thread that will look in into this array in each non empty space and after it looks into the non empty space it will use or discard the info and also mark this space as empty (after it checked)
I have a Windows form.in windows form have a combo box that give me a list of available port serial with it code (Dim ports As String() =SerialPort.GetPortNames())for example( Com1,Com8,Com15,...).but I want to give me fullname of serial port in device manager for example in dvice manager is these (Comunication Port(COM1) - Printer Port(LPT1) And USB Serial Port(COM8)).how to Get it?
If I uninstall the COM1 and reboot, it works. If I shut down (power off) and restart, I get the message below. If I uninstall then click on Scan for Hardware Changes,The given port name does not start with COM/com or does not resolve to a valid serial port. Parameter name:portName
So when i build or click debug on my program. No errors come up and its smooth. So i decide to publish my programme. However. I come up with a bunch of errors during the publishing.
Here they are:Error 1 Cannot publish because a project failed to build. 1 1 Simple CALC
Error 2 Unable to copy file "binReleaseSimple CALC.exe.manifest" to "binReleaseapp.publishApplication FilesSimple CALC_1_0_0_0Simple CALC.exe.manifest". The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters.
I am trying to get my 4 port USB relay board to work in VB.net using the COM PORT. I found some code from a poster who has the 16 port USB relay version. When trying his code i can only get it to turn on relays 1-3 all at the same time. The product can be found here: USB 4 port relay
"01+//" - Relay 1 is switched ON "01-//" - Relay 1 is switched OFF "02+//" - Relay 2 is switched ON "02-//" - Relay 2 is switched OFF
[code].....
So i am confused as to how to separate each relay out with that code above and just be able to turn on any number 1-4 relay on or off independently from each other!

Im having problem with the Serial Port. When i run my program, "Access to the port 'COM1' is denied". What does that mean? Im not sure whats happening because theres no error in my code. Someone suggest me to use 'COM2'. Which is also the same result. I have a microcontroller, programmed and run it. And i need to capture the data onto my vb, which is on a multiline textbox. How to i do that?Just to double check my code?
