Prevent Automatic Selection On Textbox Focus
Apr 16, 2010
When you use a tab key to select a textbox, all text in it is automatically selected. What's the easiest way to prevent this from happening? (Setting the selection to none in Enter or GotFocus events doesn't work)

When I run my VB.NET Winforms app I do not want it to steal the focus from the other open apps. FYI, my app is started from the command line but that shouldn't make a difference. I've seen question 577076 but that doesn't seem to work.

vs 2005 sql 2005 developer/I have a datagridview with 4 columns .I want the user to be able to use the arrow keys to move through the rows and just two of the columns.I want the other two rows to behave like a label that cannot get the focus. Nor be selected.I have been messing arround with the "cell enter" event but the language wont let me set the selected cell from within that routine.

I have a datagridview. If the user adds a new row, and then clicks away from the grid. How can i stop them from doing this?
I want them to finish the row add first or cancel it. I want to then update the table adapter in the grid's leave event.
If the row validation fails, i want to display a message and re-focus to the cell in question.
The first problem i am running into is that the focus continues to go to the control that the user clicked on to move away from the grid.
How do i cancel that event?
As an example, if the grid is on a tab page and the user clicks on another tab page, i want to prevent that page from displaying if there is an error on the row that is being added to the grid.
I was hopeing for a cancel option in the lost focus event of the grid.

I have 2 window forms, form1 has a button, which will send a msgbox when I click on, and form2 closes when it's deactivate-event raised. If I have form2 focused, and I click on the button of the form1, form2 will get focus and then close, but no msgbox showed from form1, what should I do to get the msgbox in that case?

I'm creating some software to keep my students on task. I've set it up so that I can control certain aspects of their computer from my computer. Problem is, I'm not sure how to control other applications from my application. I mostly just want to prevent it from being minimized. Some students like to switch screens quickly when I walk by. I would just like to make sure that it is always on top until I specify otherwise. I'm using VB.net, I'm using the 3.5 .net framework for compatibility reasons.

I am writing an on screen keyboard in VB.NET for a touchscreen. My problem is; how do I keep my keyboard form from getting focus when someone clicks the buttons on it? I have it on top using Me.TopMost That part is working great but I want to leave the current app have focus, not my keyboard. I'm guessing I need to use Windows API functions to accomplish this, however, I have not found any good examples in VB.NET.

I want to prevent my application from losing focus, untill I close it. (so that I can not click on ANYTHING else, untill I'm done with it. period.)I've tried using Me.Focus() on a timer, but that doesn't do s***...I've also tried countless API's out there, but I seriously can't get any of them to work.. my form simply does NOT want to stay in focus! It's driving me crazy! What the hell am I doing wrong?

how to prevent a popup toolbox window (Form) from stealing the parent Form's focus?I've been told to override CreateParams and use WS_EX_NOACTIVATE (0x08000000) but that does not seem to work (see the code segment shown below). I'm using Show() and not ShowDialog().

A panel with enabled scrollbars has many buttons. If I push the tabulation key, focus navigates between buttons. When a partially visible button has focus, the panel scrolls itself in order to completely show the button.

Ok so i have made a complete food ordering system for the place i work. It works fine, i can add the ordered things and print them on a thermo printer located in the kitchen.Everyone at my work is really pleased with the solution but there is just one problem left.
The thermo printer is a receipt printer which can print 32 characters on each line and this is more than enough for all the food and beverages but i have a free textfield where waiters can enter a text of their own if the order form cannot cover.
This field does automatic LFCR in the box but this is apparantly only in the box because if is type something longer than 32 characters it wraps nicely in the textbox but is sent as one long string when printing.
Is it possible to have a textbox perform automatic "vbNewLine" every 32 characters it encounters. I know that this might cut words in half and if this can also be avoided then fine but if not i would rather have words cut in the wrong places than text completely missing.

I am working on a windows application using VB.net 2.0 and want to create a custom ComboboxControl which displays multiple groups. I was able to display the items in Custom combobox with headers. Below is the sample.
Header 1
Item 1_1
Item 1_2
[code]....
I want to prevent users from selecting the header items. I managed to revert back to the previously selected item if user selects the header item. Problem with this approach is drop down collapses and then reverts back to previously selected item. Is there a way to check, if the item being selected is a header item and if it is a header item, do not collapse the dropdown. Basically I want to implement behavior of HTML select list with optgroup.
1_1 1_2 1_3 2_1 2_2 2_3

I have a textbox to which text is continuously appended (every second new status data at the end).I would like to act it as follows:- When the cursor is positioned at the end: Stay at the end, scroll the textbox (text disappearing at the top).- When the cursor is positioned somewhere else (not at the end): Stay exactly there, don't move the cursor, don't scroll, don't change the top line of the textbox. This seems to be surprisingly difficult (tried quite several ways). This is how far i came:
Private Sub addToTextBox(ByVal daStrg As String)
Dim posAtEnd As Boolean, selPos As Long, selLng As Long
If myTextBoxForm.txBox.SelectionStart = myTextBoxForm.txBox.TextLength Then

I have spent the last hours trying to make an easy fix for this. Setting it to enabled=false is no good in this case. What I was looking for is a way to prevent the user to place the cursor in a multiline textbox. This is a read only textbox, and the user can't type anything in it, but for some reason he can still place the cursor in it, that is what I try to prevent.

Preferably without turning the "Enabled" property to false, because I still need to output text from it.
I made a custom control in which there is a textbox but I want it used only as an output control, for showing text and stuff. Problem is that as soon as my form opens up the focus is turned to the textbox and I cannot catch my keyboard events on the form anymore(since the other controls are pictureboxes). I need a way to make this box "unclickable" or any way in which it is impossible to attribute the focus.[url]...

Basically, I have a form with about 15 text boxes. Most are in different tab pages. By default, text boxes allow anybody to copy and paste by using keyboard shortcuts.I added a tool strip up top and make the "Cut", "Copy", and "Paste" buttons. What I want to do is make them work for whichever text box was last focused. So if I click the Cut button on the tool strip, it will cut the text of the
last text box that was focused.
Example:I open the program and type in TextBox1. Then I type in TextBox2. I want to copy the contents of the last text box by using the Copy key at the top, so I click that and it copies TextBox2 as it was the last focused textbox.
Like I said, I'm not fully sure how possible this is as I do have many. The whole reason I have the tool strip is for users that prefer using a mouse for everything rather than keyboard shortcuts.
