Print / View A Report Stored In Access Via Program?
Dec 17, 2009
I have a Access DB and for simplistic terms, it has a table and a stored report.
The application will be a distributed application using Access Runtime.
What is the best method to print/view the report from the VB2008 application?

I have some reports that I want to be able to print but I'm not sure how to go about doing that in VB. Do I just go through the normal print code and then tell the program to open the report name up? I found some Access code but I'm not sure how it translates.[COD]...

I am trying to print a report in vb. I have 4 columns on a report. I want to print by txtempID.text.
I have created a report viewer form and a report with 5 columns and headings on the report. I have a button on the form called PRINT. I doubled click on the button and not sure what to put in the BUTTON CLICK EVENT. Question is DO I HAVE TO POPULATE THE COLUMNS FIRST BY "TXTEMPID". and then I PRINT them on the form.

If it is at all possible, I would like to print a page that is layed out with labels filled with text from previousley stored information from the program. now, obviousley, because the text can change in amount, and so the labels need to be able to change in size, and if at all possible allow multiple lines, though if there is no way to do it, then an unchagable text box would serfice.
There is a problem though, the fact that the labels will be changing size means that the position of the labels needs to be variable to the previouse. Example: the box above needs to be bigger, so the box bellow needs to drop down equall to the amount that the above grows.

I need a software to build a program that can do the following:
-use a sql server 2005 express maibe
-use a sql server 2000
-connect to mysql
-use crystal report to generate the sheet for print
Until now i use the vb6 to work with that things that i have say but i looking for a new language because vb6 is a "little" old but i dont want spent many time learning a language for say to my self "damn this program cant do what i want" i have seen many versions of visual basic and one of them is the visual basic 2008 express that is free, but what is the limitation of this software? i can build all of that i build in vb6? i have the same controls? i know some controls dont exist in others versions of visual basic 2005,2008 etc but my question is the visual basic 2008 express if good for what? until now i dont spend many time using this software because the language if a quiet diferent from vb6 the vb6 to .net have many diferences but i need know is if i learn use the visual basic 2008 express i able to use the others versions? like visual basic 2005 and others products the is more professional?

I have a program where a lot of the required information for it is stored in text files. I simply read this information into large arrays. However, I don't think it's necessary to load all the information each time. Rather, it would be more efficient if I could simply search through a list of items to find the one I need and then use the data from it, or to find a similar name and use it elsewhere.
Would I be right in using a database? And is database programming done in SQL? I have a book on it telling me to use the SQL Server (IIRC), so I shouldn't be doing it in the VB.NET Express GUI?
Here's an example of what I would do:
Hex = 03 00 => dex number 003
Search in file Pokemon Dex Numbers
003 returns Bulbasaur
Check Bulbasaur base stats in the base stats file
etc
So basically I'm reusing a lot of information. I think a database would be best and it would all be internal right? I'm getting complaints about access denied to a text file (since it's stored in the program directory in the program files).
So to cap up the few questions I have:
-Databases are done in SQL and not inside the GUI?
-Databases would load internally?
-I could search a database without having to load it into like an array or something?

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone knows how to do these from a simple text box. i.e. 'TextBox1'.
I'm just learning VB and it's only a simple text editor but I can't find any good sites or posts that help me in understanding how to do it. These are not really covered in any of the 'beginner' books I have acquired either.

I have developed a small ms-access based software with vb.net.
I've added auto-update capabilities to the software (mostly by using clickonce) to simplify the release of new features.
Every version of the software executes the update routine which may update also the existing database.Lately i've made few changes on the database structure adding few stored queries, so i want the autoupdate code to programmatically add these new queries to the existing database and make it perfectly up to date.
I haven't already found a solution to add stored queries to an ms-access database using odbc...I also tried to use the "CREATE PROC" sql statement but it does not seem to work with access databases, even if i create the query form the Microsoft Office Access front-end.I've found some examples that uses ADODB, but i'm using odbc to remain both x86 and x64 compliant.

Need to design a program that can encrypt and decrypt messages stored in simple text files using a private key stored in a separate file. Software should also be able to allow the users to enter simple messages that either displays the encrypted or decrypted message. The encryption method should use a simple substitution method. It should be set out in the following format:
Example (the "@" is the separator):
@
The character The Code End of line
A @ 4gh EOL
B @ 84!9 EOL
Has to use the 256 ASCII character codes. The separator will be used to separate the character and its corresponding code.Here are the pseudocodes I have come up with:
 Read any private key file
separator = readline(file);
while not EOF(file) do
tempStr = readline(file);
[code].....

I am using vb.net 2005 andCrystal Reports .net. I am fairly new to using Crystal and am having some problems with a report I need to change. The old report was simply based on an SQL Server 2000 view and worked just fine. However, now I need to use a parameter to filter the data first. To do this, I created an SQL Server 2000 stored procedure that uses one input parameter and then I simply "select *" from the original view and use a "where" clause to filter the records based on that input parameter.

I have one problem when passing value to parameters for Crystal Report Viewer. The parameters are from Stored Procedure which I have defined.
My aim is to accept values from user and display it accordingly. I try to write code as below in Button View Click Event:
[code=language]
Dim rptdoc As New ReportDocument
rptdoc.Load(Application.StartupPath & "ReportsSummaryAdsRecordBetweenDate.rpt")
'@startdate is parameter in stored procedure
[Code].....
But the problem is that Crystal Report Viewer does not accept my passed values and prompt me to input values for @startdate and @enddate in its dialog box.

I am having troubles with the project I'm doing. I am using VS 2008 and so, I am not familiar with how to print a report. I added the report using the report wizard option. I have read NUMEROUS tutorials on how to manually print a report. As much as possible, I don't want to use the ReportViewer or Crystal Report as I already have my data loaded in a listview. My problem is, is there any other way to print a report I made (.rdlc) without the use of the reportviewer?I really need it, especially for printing sales history and similar stuff.

retrieve the actual T-SQL that is to be executed by a SqlCommand object (with a CommandType of StoredProcedure) before it executes...My scenario involves optionally saving DB operations to a file or MSMQ before the command is actually executed. My assumption is that if you create a SqlCommand like the following:
Using oCommand As New SqlCommand("sp_Foo")
oCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
oCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@Param1", "value1"))
oCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
End Using
It winds up executing some T-SQL like:
EXEC sp_Foo @Param1 = 'value1'
Is that assumption correct? If so, is it possible to retrieve that actual T-SQL somehow? My goal here is to get the parsing, validation, etc. benefits of using the SqlCommand class since I'm going to be using it anyway.
