I'm looking for a way to process the text entered into a textbox, before the the focus is lost from the control. Or a way to pass a reference to the control to a function/sub when the control has lost focus. In Access I would be able to use the AfterUpdate event. I have tried the following events, but have not figured out how to get what I want from either of these events:
- TextChanged (tried to capture the Tab key, didn't work)
- Validating (when fired for Text1, the ActiveControl name is Text2 which is the next TextBox control)
I'm trying to update an old code that I don't have the source code for. In this code, the user enters an integer in a textbox as part of a form. Once they move to the next textbox a new form opens to input the number of files that the user chose (in the textbox).I have created all of the forms, but I can't figure out how to get the code to open the new form once the integer has been entered in the textbox and the cursor has moved to the next textbox. I would prefer this to happen automatically and not involve a button.
I'm trying to use StreamWriter to write to a text file; it creates the file fine, but when I open it up, it's still empty. I marked the code below where the writing action takes place.
vb Public Sub BHorse_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles BHorse.Click Dim oMarketsReq As New BFExchange.GetAllMarketsReq Dim oMarketsResp As BFExchange.GetAllMarketsResp Dim BFWrite As System.IO.StreamWriter BFWrite = IO.File.CreateText("C:Datamarket.txt") With oMarketsReq
i'm having trouble opening a text file to process and order the data in it. When i try to read the first line of characters an error message occurs saying: 'Variable words1 is used before it has been assigned a value.' I dont understand what i am doing wrong when opening the file. Also, I am sorry if this is a rather basic question.
I was wondering if this code could be better optimized for multithreading. What it does is open a process and loops through the data, there could be any range of files to open (so I would like to have say 2 or 3 processes at once):
I am in the process of designing a computer control program to control a HF communications receiver (radio), and have found a problem with the Serial port. I am using VB Express Edition 2008. This module of the program is supposed to take an input string from another part of the program, format it, break it into 4 bytes, and send it to the radio in hex form via COM port 1. The problem comes in when you try to enter a frequency with an 8 or a 9 in it. The 8 or 9 is usually replaced by 45, ex.-input 9900, receiver tune 4545. The exact same thing happens with 8's, input 8800 and receiver tune 4545. All other numbers other than 8 or 9 work fine. The strange part of it is that sometimes the 8's and 9's work, and work correctly. For instance, 900, 1900, 2900, 3900, 4900, 5900, 6900, and 7900 all work correctly. This led me to believe that is may only be when the 8 or 9 is in the first position, but that is not the case, it also shows up in other positions as well. All other frequencies that do not have 8 or 9 in them also work. I ran into this same problem with VB Express 2005, and worked on it for weeks before giving up and going back to VB6.0. This same module (with exception of the port open command) runs flawlessly under VB6. I have even tried importing the MSCOMM control from VB6, but it gives the same results. In de-bugging mode, all of the inputs, decimal and hex seem to be correct, so the problem must come in after you click the command button, but before it leaves the COM port.
I have already managed to get friendly urls working with my cms; however, what i want to know is: with asp.net 4.0 routes options, how do i get a root leaving routing? When user types in www.mysite.com/page_name, which is aboutus, it goes to the page cms.aspx but leaves the other routes intact:
When a user leaves a TextBox on the form I execute a format and save to a variable. This is saved to a database by clicking on a ToolStrip button.
The problem occurs if the user moves the mouse directly from the TextBox to the Button. Neither the Leave event or the Lost Focus event is triggered, the variable is not created and, of course not saved.
If I put the code in the Save Button and the User moves to another control, the formatting(data type Double to currency format in the TextBox) that I want to show is not executed.
So I have a few variables in an array a I want to compare another variable to each of them, if it is the same do something, AND STOP THE FOR LOOP. else carry on the for loop. So...
for i = 0 to 4 if variable = a(i) then do some stuff
[code]....
how do i end the for loop from within an if statement that is in the for loop
I have written a windows service that is meant to launch a notepad when a specific action happens. The problem i have is that even though the service launches notepad, the actual notepad it self is NOT visible. I know that it has been launced because i can see the process in the task manager. By the way the process is listed as a SYSTEM process rather than a process under my user name (i believe that is because my process is a "LocalSystem" one).
I created Dataentry forms. In the form there are so many controls like DropDowns and textboxes. I am using Access database. Now I enterd the few records into the controls, and these records are saved into the Database. But now if i enter the any data which i recently saved in the database to the textbox or any other control then the remaining controls should be display the related data.
For example i have 4 controls in my form one is dropdown and 3 are textboxes. If i select the data in the dropdown then the remaining 3 textboxes shows the related data. How can i dispaly the corresponding data to the other controls?
this is urgent. i have a form in which i need to give timedelay of 3 seconds before each line executes. But when i try system.threading.thread.sleep its freezing the UI and furthermore all delays are executing as one single delay. that is
I have a modal pop up that is supposed to upload documents. It does that just fine, except that it doesn't give them a title, therefore nothing shows up on my page since Title is how they show up in the list. What should I replace LinkTitle.Text with to get this to work?I am trying to fix this guys code because none of it worked right. I added a comment below that has new code in it that is parameterized. This is in ASP.net 4.0 VB using Microsoft SQL Server.[code]
I find that if I do me.close and then reopen the form with showDialog later, things are as they were before I closed it. If I use me.dispose and then later open the form again, its as if it was never opened before. Are these two both valid methods for leaving a form?
Leaves the user no options to do anything with the program. What I want is to disable everything using the given line (or if anything else), but leave a Menustrip enabled.
I am experiencing a strange issue with a VB6 -> VB.Net conversion. There is a function that uses ADOX to look through the tables in a given database, and reset the seed values of any columns in said tables with the auto increment property set to true.I tracked the issue down to a call of "col.Properties("Autoincrement").Value". If this line of code is commented out, then the file handle properly terminates when I close both the ADO and the ADOX connections at the end of the function. If I leave that line in, the handle stays open despite the closing calls and forcing garbage collection. Here's how I am closing the objects:
System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ReleaseComObject(adoConn) Dim connection As ADODB.Connection = cat.ActiveConnection If Not connection Is Nothing Then
I'm trying to find where this code might be leaving old connections open, and I found this code that might be the cullprit. It is in a function. I'm wondering if this connection would close, if an exception occured from within the USING statement?
Using a timer, am making a rectangle platform move from left to right. The problem is that it leaves a trail of itself and I believe this is down to refreshing or something. here is the timer code if your interested:
If shaperet = False Then Timer2.Start() platform.Left -= 4
I'm refactoring the code getting ready for some major work. I want to remove the if/endif pair but leave the contents (do lots of stuff) intact and in place.
In Visual Studio 2008, what is the easiest way to do that without making a mess
I have been attempting to automate a process in a webbrowser control. When I attempt to fill out the form and submit, I get a false negative response (meaning all the data in the fields are correct but I am getting an incorrect response back from what I should be getting). I have determined that this problem is due to the fact that when I manually type out the data in the input fields a javascript is being fired. I know that you are able to invoke the javascript, but as I have no real knowledge about javascript and the script is rather complex I am stuck.
A temporary solution for me has been to use SendKeys, but this is no real solution at all. If the window loses focus, the entire process goes out the window. I cannot just use the .SetAttribute or .InnerText methods for the elements in the window.
I'm not sure if any of you are familiar with WatiN but I have used it recently while looking for other means to do what I need to do here. Watin works, but instead of allowing me to use an embedded browser object it shells new browser windows. Anyhow, with WatiN I am able to minimize or hide the browser window and the code will still execute. This leads me to believe that there is a way to simulate keypress events in a browser window while making sure that the specific element is the active element.
I have searched all over the internet for this (but am sure I overlooked a few things in frustration) and have yet to find a solution that works for me.
I'm using an electronic signature pad for one of my applications. The pad has a Control Panel file which handles it's configuration (image display, etc). I would like to know if it is possible to open the pad's control panel from within VB.NET. I've tried using Process.Start() but can't get it to wok, and I'm not sure if it is a problem with what I'm typing in, or if Process.Start is not what I need to use here.
I have a DGV with a CB column in VS2008. I would like an event when a DGVCB selection is made (without leaving the cell). It will probably have to be a DGV cell or row event but I can't find one that fires as soon as a DGVCB selection is made.
Our program works fine, until someone locks the computer or the screen-saver pops up (but not ctrl+alt+delete). Once the computer is unlocked/the screen saver is closed, the application stops drawing everything except the title bar, and stops responding to input - it displays a mostly-white window which can't be moved or closed.(Example of application freezing - the mountains are from my desktop background)If we let it sit for about 5~10 minutes, it comes back to life, and doesn't hang again (even after locking the computer/screen saver popup) until the application is restarted.
I have got a couple of VB Powerpack Ovalshapes on my Form.I use these for a quick indication if the networked device is online or offline.I can't seem to control the Visible function (or any other function for that matter) one my Background Worker is running. For my Textboxes I used a guide by jmcilhinney which worked great for them but there is no 'Invoke' property for graphics controls.
I'm adding controls to a TableLayoutPanel in the form myTableLayoutPanel.Controls.Add(someControl, 5, 5), inserting the control in column 5, row 5. After that line of code has executed, I expect that the ColumnStyles and RowStyles properties of myTableLayoutPanel will contain ColumStyles for columns 0 through 5, and RowStyles for rows 0 through 5. This is not the case. where and when RowStyles and ColumnStyles are added to these properties and the best way to deal with adding styles when inserting new Controls?
i was just wondering if there was a way that i could compare data stored in a text file such as usernames and passwords with data input into text boxes in visual studio vb2008?
