FormClosing And Application.Exit Is Causing The MessageBox To Ask If Want To Exit Twice
Jun 12, 2007I'm having a bit of a problem getting my application to close properly. Basically I have one main form from which all other forms open. If a user tries to close that main form, I want to bring up a MessageBox asking if they want to exit the application.However, when I try to do that it asks the question twice. It seems that the Application.Exit() is triggering the FormClosing event again for some reason, but I don't know of another way to exit the application. BTW, the main form isn't the startup form so I can't use the option to close when the startup form closes.

Jul 11, 2011When the user clicks the Exit button it closes the forms and if there was an open file it asks the user is they would like to save. But after the application closes there is still memory being held in Processes by the application. However, when pressing the [X] in the top of the form the application closes again but in this instance it is not held in Processes. How do I write the close for Exit to take into account how the [X] works and close the application cleanly?

If I execute the code a second time and exit from it again, a second process of WINWORD.EXE gets added and stays active. The example shown at url... doesn't produce the same problem. Aug 5, 2010I am having trouble with some code I am writing to handle an Excel spreadsheet. The idea is that the dialog box is displayed which invites the user to select an Excel spreadsheet. Once they have done that, it is opened and a separate function checks to see whether Sheet1 exists returning Nothing if it is not found. The intention being the try/catch block picks it up and gracefully does nothing. The problem is that when the function returns nothing, the dialog box is still displayed and the sub doesn't seem to exit. [Code]

I am trying to close the thread so once it's done, it closed for good and my form is closed as well. I tried Me.Close() which results in: "Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'Form1' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on." Error.
Me.Invoke(New InvokeWithString(AddressOf CloseME), e) - Results in parameter mismatch error.
However, things like Msgbox("Done") works perfectly.

This kicks off the process and my code continues to run, but I need a way of monitoring that process and not doing anything else until it finishes. Is there a simple solution? I'm hoping there's something similar to Process.WaitForExit like there is when creating a local process.

If the process is not detected then the program loads normally and opens an external program. My problem is that it stops the process and still runs the program. Apr 6, 2009I have a problem here I hope someone can help me out. I have this application in which I show information about workplans. It has a Main Form which show the general information and the activites that are going to take place during the execution.
The application has the ability to "attach" documents to the activities. I have created another form (and MDI form) that I use to show the documents (pdfs) when a user clicks on one of the documents attached. The problem is that when I close the form that shows the documents, it ends the application and I don't know why. It should just close and leave me again with the Main Form. Can someone tell me why is this form terminating the app. Is it because is MDI or what?

This works fine when the user closes the form from the main menu exit button where I have written code to update the table. However if a user exits from another form the main form is not closed (as I thought it would be) and the code that updates the table consequently does not run.
I have tried entering on other forms under the FormClosing event but this does not seem to run if they click the X in the corner of the form.
How can I get that code to run when a user exits in some other way.
Closing Child Form Closes Application?
Aug 16, 2011I've made a Windows Forms Application that runs fine. It has some buttons that open child forms, which can simply close again without any problem. As I need the form to be in a dll, I changed the application type to a class library and added an extra project containing an exe-file that only references the main form in the dll and shows it. So far so good...
The main form is basically a tabcontrol with a bunch of controls, buttons among others. Five buttons on different tabs use the same handler to open a child form. When I click the button on the first tab everything works fine. The form opens and when it closes, only the child closes. When I click any of the buttons on the other tabs, the child form opens and when it closes again, both the child and the main form close...
I am stumped, especially since all buttons use the same code to open the child form and everything appears to be completely identical, yet the results are not. Below I have pasted the code that opens the main and child forms. I am undoubtedly not looking in the right place, but I also have no idea where to look anymore, let alone what to look for...

May 18, 2012I ran out of ideas and couldn't find any reference about it so here I go... I need to keep a secondary application wich is not related to my c# project always running in background. So if this secondary application crashes or someone else close it manually it will automatically re launch again via my c# app.

Feb 15, 2009When I press the exit button (the red X) the process is still running in the system manager. So opening it more than once will end up meaning it will slowly start crashing the computer (if you don't restart).
