Sep 22, 2009I have a vb-2008 program that contains a (listview) control.

AllowColumnReorder = true
Lets say the table has 3 columns (a,b,c) and 1 row of data.
a b c
1 2 3
I want the user to be able to re-arrange the columns (by dragging the column headers) before printing the contents of the table.
c a b
3 1 2
Statements like:
.. ListViewX.Columns(2).Text
.. ListViewX.Columns.Item(2).Text
.. ListViewX.Items(0).SubItems(2).ToString
Give the column-name (c) and cell-contents (3) of the origional table .. not the (3rd) column (b) of the re-arranged table.
How can i get the column-name and cell-contents of the (3rd) column of the re-arranged table?

I am trying to make the program close if the -1 string is sent with the program. See my installer allows for me to run certain programs before it actually installs, but it doesn't shut down copies of the program itself. So I have a next startup instance set to shut the program down if the -1 is received. But if the program is not running it starts up instead. This is not desired. form1.close doesn't work. e.cancel = true doesn't work, etc etc. What can I do to make the program not start during this instance.

It even indicates if the string I'm seeking is in the middle of a line. But what I would like is for the routine to highlight the line that that string is in and ensure visible. I can do that with another routine that uses an integer, but then the whole string(line) has to be the searchString. I've tried combining the two and even calling a Private Sub but with no success:(What is the best way to do this? Also, how do you get around doing it when the searchWord in in several lines?

Jul 7, 2011My goal is to display a list of tasks with checkboxes. Checking the checkbox for a task will update the display of the task so a line-through text decoration will appear. Everythign is working great, except I can't figure out how to initially show the list of tasks with a line-through if they are completed, or normal if the task is not completed. Here's code excerpts:

So this works great, when I click on a checkbox the lable gets a line-through or none based on the checkbox. Only problem is when I initially load the page, I can't figure out how to update the style of TaskLabel to show a line-through or not. I've tried some various routes, but nothing is panning out.

I thought VB would be great for helping people be more familiar with bioinformatics. Unfortunately, I'm brand new to VB and am stuck with my first program.
All I want to do is have a window pop up where the user then selects a file from an OpenFileDialog box, and pass the filename to a bioinformatics program names msconvert. What I've been doing keeps giving me a message that seems to says, "Unhandled exception has occurreed in your application. . . . File not found."
However, as you can see in my code (below) I have a MsgBox that shows that the correct file HAS been selected, and I can get the whole thing to run from command line.[code]....

Jan 13, 2009I have an Excel file I need to leave undisturbed. I can loop through it and populate a ListView with columns during form load. After that I want to repopulate the ListView, changing column headers and presenting the same data in a different order or with some columns absent. If I created my Excel application As Object when loading the form it is obviously no longer available from a new button as the button is Private. What is the convention for doing this? Does ADO.NET work with Excel? I want to keep the data source invisible (.visible = False) yet manipulate it for the ListView. I could create a text fiile from the Excel and loop through that in each button code. That seems a poor way to do it. There will be no input from the user, just reading from 22 columns displaying only 3 or 4 of them at a time in ListView.
