I've been trying to display some information from an Oracle Database(10G) in a VB.NET program. Some of this information is in french and I need to display the french accents correctly. The e with an accent chr(233) is my test case, and it keeps coming back as either an inverted question mark (with Ole DB), a question mark (with the System.Data.OracleClient) or an 'i' (with ODBC and DSN)..

This prob does not exist with VB6 on the same machine. What do I need to set/change in vb.net to display these characters properly.

The information within the database includes French Accent Characters, for example: When the user clicks the button, everything works ok except the French Accent Characters.
Outlook is causing some problems when being passed a mailto string with accented characters in it. Changing the codepage for my entire webpage that has this string on it solves this problem, but that causes other problems in the system, so I would not like to do that.
A string like such returns a lot of garbage characters:
"mailto:Helpdesk-someemail@email.com?subject=Mon bâtiment / Départementé / Bureau n'est pas répertorié"
Meanwhile, this cuts off the character after the "D"
"mailto:someemail@email.com?subject=Mon bâtiment / Départementé / Bureau n'est pas répertorié"
I have my form set in french as well, and it automatically changes the text format to use ','. However When I try to insert my values into the database it says cannot convert nvarchar to decimal? Worst case, Is there a way I can disable the numbers from changing to use ',' and just use '.' always regardless what language it is? My working language is vb.net?

View 1 RepliesI'm using the Oracle command dbms_output.get_line to retrieve output from a stored procedure. Once my code runs the command, I'm retrieving the results through a buffer string, 32000 bytes long.Inevitably, this string will have Oracle line breaks (chr(10) and chr(13)) in it that I'd like to replace with Environment.NewLine so I can display the output in a standard Winforms textbox.Here is the code I've been using - I don't recall exactly where I got the Oracle command right now, but if I find it, I'll add the link.

In SQL I had to alias my column header with some text containing special character, So to mask these characters {}, I had to keep them in double qoutes.
eg: select column1 as "{Ctrix}" from table; When ran in sql the result is
{Ctrix}
-------
1
2
3
The problem that I got was while passing the same above query in the code that I had written in VB.strSQL="select column1 as "{Ctrix}" from table;" The query is getting truncated and giving error. Please help me, how to handle this properly at sql/vb... which satisfies both.

Pulling data from Access database in .net?
I was wondering which way would be the easiest in VS2005 to connect to and pull data from a MS SQL database. I have already setup the database connection by choosing the datasource for a DataGridView but I'm not able to retreive any information.
The steps I have taken so far:
1. Make new form
2. Drag and drop DataGridView onto the form
3. Setup the data source and respective username password
Not sure where to go from here....

We are writing a program that pulls a Teacher from a database, then you select the "period" 1 - 7. What is happening is if we pick period 1 on teacher john doe. Then when you pick another teacher it doesn't clear the period that we selected before. How do we clear this information every time we select a different teacher?

I choose not to display the primary key for user interface purposes, but require that key for basic operations on the grid.I'm currently attempting to add a "Delete" option to the table, but unfortunately I'm having very little luck. I am creating a Reporting program in VB 2008. The first issue that I want to correct is in VB 2008 there is a Database Explorer. But whenever I try to create a new Data Connection in the Database Explorer it does not give me the option to connect to Oracle. How do I get my Oracle Database in the Database Explorer tab. I am reading a csv file in to a datatable in vb.net and making a few checks and appending an extra column. I then want to perform a bulk insert using microsofts Oracle.DataAccess (no choice in this) to an Oracle database. what would be the best way to perform this as there is no bulkImport like in SQLserver.
