Cannot Transfer French Accent Characters From SQL To MS Word
Mar 10, 2009
I have a button on a web page labeled "Send to MS Word" that redirects to an .aspx page that on-load includes the following:
Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-word"
Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "inline;filename=""BOC ScoreCard.doc""")I also build a Dataset that gets info from an MS SQL database. The information within the database includes French Accent Characters, for example: When the user clicks the button, everything works ok except the French Accent Characters.

I am reading in a text file and displaying the data read in in textboxes. Some of the characters are accented French characters which are not displaying correctly in the form. This prob does not exist with VB6 on the same machine. What do I need to set/change in vb.net to display these characters properly.

I've been trying to display some information from an Oracle Database(10G) in a VB.NET program. Some of this information is in french and I need to display the french accents correctly. The e with an accent chr(233) is my test case, and it keeps coming back as either an inverted question mark (with Ole DB), a question mark (with the System.Data.OracleClient) or an 'i' (with ODBC and DSN)..

Outlook is causing some problems when being passed a mailto string with accented characters in it. Changing the codepage for my entire webpage that has this string on it solves this problem, but that causes other problems in the system, so I would not like to do that.
A string like such returns a lot of garbage characters:
"mailto:Helpdesk-someemail@email.com?subject=Mon bâtiment / Départementé / Bureau n'est pas répertorié"
Meanwhile, this cuts off the character after the "D"
"mailto:someemail@email.com?subject=Mon bâtiment / Départementé / Bureau n'est pas répertorié"

I'm making an application that will change position of two characters in Word.
[Code]...
Program works good, it is mixing characters good, but it doesn't write text to the file. It will write text in console, but not in file. Note: Program is working only with words that are divisible by 2, but it's not a problem. Also, it does not return any error message.

I am trying to strip the first 75 characters from various strings (sentences / phrases) and it seems right but I need to ensure that the no words are truncated in the process. Meaning that if the 75 character is part of a word it needs to fall back to the beginning of the word or nearest space..
I thought of stripping the entire string into separate words and then counting the length of combining the words and stopping when I reach the target but what do I do in the case when it is not a valid sentence just a bunch of characters jammed together or spaces and one character. I thought of using grammar parsing tool libraries and parsing into tokens etc but that seems too over complicated.
Here is what I have so far:
If htext.Length() > 75 Then
Dim regex2 As Regex = New Regex("^.{0,75}", RegexOptions.IgnoreCase)
Dim m2 As Match = regex2.Match(htext)
[Code].....

I am working on RSS feed. In Rssfeed <description> (string) tag suggest using approximately 300 characters and then showing continuation with [...] after a word break.

How we can do with a string by showing continuation with [...] after a word break?

I will use the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) to transfer files from a client (laptop) to a shared folder on a server within our local network.The problem is a very slow network bandwith, if we transfer a file, the other clients can´t work, all requests to other clients (application) or viewing internet pages needs a long time.My idea is to use BITS in my tool to copy/transfer a file from client to server, also I hope to get more performance for the internet requests.

I know that I can get the month name for a date, e.g.:
Dim myMonth As String = MonthName(Month(myDate))
which gives me January, February, etc.What I need is to *also* get the month name in French, for a bilingual app I'm working on. Note that the app decides the language to display based on values supplied to the program, not the current locale settings.Is there a simple, canned way to do this or should I use a lookup array for the month names? Or, something else?

Rudimentary Translator gives English words and their French and German equivalents. Store these words in a text file and read them into a structure having a member for each language. Write a program that sorts arrays according to the English words. The program should then request an English sentence as input from the keyboard and translate it into French and German. For example, if the English sentence given is MY PENCIL IS ON THE TABLE, the French translation will be MON CRAYON EST SUR LA TABLE, and the German translation will be MEIN BLEISTIFT IST AUF DEM TISCH.
Note: Assume that the only punctuation in the sentence is a period at the end of the sentence. Use a binary search to locate each English word.English words and their French and German equivalents.

THE LA DEM

I have my form set in french as well, and it automatically changes the text format to use ','. However When I try to insert my values into the database it says cannot convert nvarchar to decimal? Worst case, Is there a way I can disable the numbers from changing to use ',' and just use '.' always regardless what language it is? My working language is vb.net?

I'm using server.transfer to transfer execution of a URL to a dummy page which fetches information from the database. The trouble is that the master page interacts with the session.
global.asax:
Sub Application_BeginRequest(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs)
' Fires at the beginning of each request
If Not (System.IO.File.Exists(Server.MapPath(Request.Url.LocalPath))) And Request.Url.LocalPath.ToLower
[CODE]...
Master page:
If String.IsNullOrEmpty(CStr(Session("SessionId"))) Then
Session.Add("SessionId", Guid.NewGuid().ToString)
End If
Page declaration: <%@ Page Language="vb" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeBehind="utilityCMS.aspx.vb" Inherits="utilityCMS" MasterPageFile="~/MasterPages/main.master" EnableSessionState="True" %>
Web.config snippet:
<httpModules>
<add name="ScriptModule" type="System.Web.Handlers.ScriptModule, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35" />
<add name="HttpModuleAggregator" type="XPIdea.Web.HttpModuleAggregator,xpidea.web.common" />
</httpModules>
I'm getting an error :
Session state can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true, either in a configuration file or in the Page directive. Please also make sure that System.Web.SessionStateModule or a custom session state module is included in the <configuration><system.web><httpModules> section in the application configuration.
I should also mention that this same master page works elsewhere in the site. Session is used throughout the site as well (not just in the master page).

Essentially I am trying to replicate the Windows 7 (In-Windows) activation key TextBox form. The Form where it will auto capitalize letters, remove or deny all non alphanumeric characters except dashes every 5 characters that will be auto-input.I assume this can be done with a fairly complicated replacement Regular Expression but I cannot seem to create one to fit the needs.
This is an Example of what I have right now, but it creates an infinite loop as it removes all characters including dashes, than adds a dash, which changes the text and removes the dash again.
