Push Dataset Into SQL Server?
Jan 9, 2009
I have a Class that is creating a large dataset (over 32,000 records) on the fly. I want to take the dataset and import it directly into SQL Server 2005 but I have not been able to find anything in ADO that allows me to do that all in one chunk. Doing a search I found some people in a similar situation that have exported the dataset to an XML file and then imported into SQL Server, which seems like a long way to go just to get something done that I would think would be part of ADO.Net.
However, for lack of a better option, I went a head and created the XML file but now I am having problems getting it to import into SQL Server so before I lose another day of productivity I am goin to ask a question.Is there a way to insert a dataset directly into SQL Server without going to a file first (even if I have to do it one row at a time)?

is there any possiblities like this select two conditions in one dataview like
Childds.Tables("ColumnList").DefaultView.RowFilter = customername='hello'
dv = Childds.Tables("ColumnList").DefaultView()
it has given correct answer but
Childds.Tables("ColumnList").DefaultView.RowFilter = customername='hello' or customername='hai'
dv = Childds.Tables("ColumnList").DefaultView()
In this case it takes only first one and ignore the second or condition
how to write the rowfilter to select when the customers are multiple

So I created a table and one of the columns is is called currencydate, and has a datetime data type. Within my vb scripts, i've taken a filename and extracted the date components from it. an example filename is WER22402.10. The part in bold is the date meaning 24th February 2010.
I use the following function to extract the date values and convert it to a date type.
Private Function ConvertStringToDate(ByRef FileName) As Date
Dim S As String = FileName
S = S.Substring(4, 7)

In my development I want to use sql server with dataset.
When I finish the project at my development machine, I want the ability to install it at these 3 servers.
What is the best way to configure the connection?
Can I change the connection string created by the wizard during run time?

Anyway, I wrote a view with a union query in SQL Server that grabs data from a linked SQL server.
Anytime I try to add this object as a dataset in VB.NET it completely bombs out on me with this ugly error message...
ERROR [42000] [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [SQL Server] The operation could not be performed because the OLE DB Provider 'SQLOLEDB' was unable to begin a distributed transaction. ERROR [01000] [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [SQL Server] [OLE/DB provider returned message : new transaction cannot enlist in the specified transaction coordinator] ERROR [01000] [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [SQL Server] OLE DB Error Trace [OLE/DB Provider 'SQLOLEDB' lTransactionJoin::JoinTransaction returned 0x8004d00a]
I'm completely stumped as to why I can't create a dataset from a view that references a linked SQL server. It's not this specific view either, all views that reference this linked server bomb out.

I have a DataGridView control in my windows form application. What i want to do is this: I want to reload the view so that it shows the correct data when a change occur to the database table that it is bound. In other words, when i delete a record, using an sql query not the DataGridView1.Rows.Remove(DataGridView1.CurrentRow) property, i want the changes to occur to the datagridview also. For example: I have a customers table that is bound to the datagridview. When i delete a record, lets say the one with ID=5, i want the row to be removed from the gridview in run-time. Is this possible?

I fill table data into dataset using Adapter. How to update dataset changes back to Microsoft SQL Server Table. I refer to the following URL, the solution is working fine, it makes use of the adapter.UPDATE to get table updated with changes made to dataset. [URL]
Sample Code:
cmdBuilder = New SqlCommandBuilder(adapter)
changes = ds.GetChanges()
If changes IsNot Nothing Then
adapter.Update(changes)
End If
I would like to know is there any other alternatives besides the one I have mentioned above. Can the alternative supports scenarios such as update existing record (probably based on primary key or defined conditions), insert new record as well delete existing record.

I have an existing project written in VB.NET using Visual Studio 2005 communicating to a SQL Server 2005 database. The database was migrated to a sql server 2008 r2 on a different physical server so the dataset's server name needs to be updated. I do not have access to the database anymore. is there a way to just update the server name without invoking the dataset wizard and requiring a connection to the database?
UPDATE: I tried to created a new project with just a button with the command calling the following subroutine to test the connection from a windows app to the sql server database. here is the sub:
Public Conn as New ADODB.Connection
Public Sub PubSubConnectToDB()
Conn.Open("Server=w2k54
[Code]....
I am able to created a system dsn on the same server with the same credentials and test the connection successfully.

We are writing a program to work alongside our SQL/VB.NET-based POS system.We can both co-exist in the same SQL instance, but we have to keep the two databases separate. Any extra columns that don't belong in their tables causes their DB maintenance to fail, so I have a second database with all of their table names, with column 1 being the GUID from their table, and the remaining columns are the ones that I needed to add, and I'm going insane having to split between the two. I've looked into a lot of different ways to handle my issue below, and the only thing that I can seem to get working are datasets created at runtime through code. I can get SELECTs into my program just fine, but my problems are when I want to run loops on the datasets, and then insert, update, or delete back to SQL.
My first problem is that every time I run the select command to fill the dataset, it duplicates the entries in the dataset. The only way I know how to stop it is to clear the dataset before each poll, but I don't want to erase what's in the dataset. I want to insert the records that don't exist, and update the ones that have changed since the last poll. How can I say "only insert new records into the dataset that are not already in there"?
I have a Windows service set up with a timer that runs a "Check for New Tickets" function stored in the SQL Server every 5 seconds to check for new tickets. It returns 1 if there are New Tickets, or 0 for No New Tickets. When SQL returns 1 to the service, then the service will temporarily stop the timer to process stored procedure 2, which gets all the new ticket GUIDs and inserts them into a dataset to process. The part that I'm having trouble with is using if-then logic to run different procedures based on different variables returned from the database (i.e. what items are on the ticket, who created the ticket, if it's from workstation B, run this procedure, mark the ticket as synced, etc.) So my goal is to get data from the SQL server, run logic to update the dataset, and then update it back to the SQL server, or insert/delete/etc.). I know it's possible because this book I have steps you through it, but the book's examples don't fit what I'm trying to do.
For example, there is a bit column called 'TicketHasCarWash', 1 is yes, and 0 is no. If the ticket has a car wash, I need to determine what kind of car wash they have. There is a table called 'TicketItems' where the car wash type is stored. I need to say "For each ticketGUID in the dataset where "HasCarWash = 1", UPDATE LocalDataSet SET CarWashType = (SELECT CarWashType FROM SQL.dbo.TicketItems WHERE TicketGUID = @TheTicketGUIDOfTheCurrentRowInTheDataset) Next.

I am trying to read JSON data from a server to a dataset object, any idea on how this can be done. I have tried using the DataContractJsonSerializer class but it only seems to work for objects.

"lastName": "Smith",

The code above works to an object, but I want to parse the JSON data to a dataset object.

I am currently iterating through a loop and redimensionalising my array every time I need to add a value (as you can imagine this takes some time for a redim every loop) is there a way I can implement a push similar to ruby or java? This would need to save the processing time needed to redimensionalise the array every time I need to add a value to it.

In my inventory mobile application , i use RDA.using the mobile device ,i update only the Barcode of a particular Item which is in the Item Master(.sdf file). then I push the tables to the SQL Server.there is a web application handles all the other functionality , including Item Master Changes.for and eg.
(1) I pull the Item master to the Mobile Device.
(2)change the Item Name from the Web application.(NOT FROM DEVICE)
(3)Update Bar code from the Device
(4)push table from mobile Device to SQL Server.
In this situation Old Item Name is replaced.My need is only to update the Barcode.

I have a fairly simple form that uses a SQLAdapter, a DataSet, and a BindingSource to allow users to navigate through the records in a table. Each time the user navigates to a new record, I update a DataGridView control that shows the appropriate records in another table. Now I'm trying to add a new record to the main form, using this code:
bs.AddNew() 'bs is the BindingSource object.
bs.EndEdit()
daCCS.Update(dsCCS,
"tblCostCodeStructures") 'da and ds are the DataAdapter and DataSet, respectively.
dsCCS.AcceptChanges()
Now, this seems to work alright, but it doesn't seem to actually retrieve a primary key for the new record from SQL Server. This is important, because without a primary key there's no way to requery the DataGridView and tell it what the correct Foreign Key is for whatever new records a user may create. I know the code is writing the record, because I can open SQL Server and see the new record, and I can close the form and re-open it to see and edit the new record just fine.
However, I need a way for the new record to be immediately available. Obviously, closing and re-opening a form every time the user adds a new record is not going to work! How can I make it so that as soon as the user creates a new record, that record is submitted to SQL Server, the dataset updated, and the form updated so that I have the new Primary Key field available?

sub main()
dim menuhistory as stack(of menu)
dim currentmenu as menu
dim apple as new menu("fruit")
[code]....
I'm trying to create a stack of menus so I can navigate forward and back between different menus, however when I get down the push line to push my menu onto the stack I get the following error:"NullReferenceException was unhandled: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.". I'm unsure what the problem is as I am trying to push an object onto my stack, a menu object. The same error occurs even if I change the object I am trying to push directly to apple as well.

I've built an IPv4 Header/Datagram implementation and a TCP Header/Datagram implementation - I can verify that all my code is fine (checksums computed right, < 8bit values computed right, etc).
When I try to use System.Net.Sockets and I specify any ProtocolType (including Unknown), the Socket simply refuses to send any datagram where the Protocol Field value in the IPv4 Header doesn't precisely match the ProtocolType. No error or exception is thrown; the socket simply doesn't perform the send.
This means I can't use a raw socket to send customized IP or TCP datagrams, which means I can't communicate with servers that have customized implementations of these basic protocols.
All I need is to push this raw data to the network. I'm not married to System.Net.Sockets - be happy to just shove my data on the network, since the packet headers are fine.
