Query That Will Return All Of Column Names In A Microsoft Access Table?
Aug 17, 2010
I have a Microsoft Access database that I connect to with the Jet Database Engine, using VB.NET. I want to programmatically get all of the column names for a particular table [code]...
Is this possible in Access? If not, what are my options for getting the column names?
I'm working on an access database and there is a problem I can solve in a circumvented way but I was wondering if it can be done by using a function in query. The case: I have a main data table and 2 other tables joined to it.
maintable country | city...... | postalcode [code].....
From one of the tables I select the respective zone for the postal codes in the main datatable, ie. if the row's postal code column contains 1000 (just an exmple) then the postal code is searched in the "zone" table "from" & "to" columns using "between", and it results in for example "zone1" (zone column). This is a clear thing, it works okay. However I need to select the respective rate column (based on the rows' weight column) from the rates table selecting the appropriate zone.
I can solve this by a switch statment (select country, city.... switch( zone="1", [1], zone="2", [2] etc.) but it gets very tedious when for example I have a rate table with 15 columns, you can imagine that.My question is if I could create a custom function which returned the respective column based on the result of the zone column.is there some way to get the function's return value to be translated in the select statement? for example select country, city....getzone("rates",[zone]) .....
I know that the rates table do not follow the relational database's main principle and it should look like fromkg | tokg | zone | rate and it would work like a charm with "where"but these tables are changed regularly and I receive them in excel...but maybe transforming the tables each time by unions would easily solve my problem doesnt it?I'm still interested if VBA custom function could be used for such a purpose.
icant conect to database with visual basic i get this error "The Microsoft Office Access database engine cannot find the input table or query 'Puna'. Make sure it exists and that its name is spelled correctly"
Here is my code :Public Class dataLayer Private Shared connection As OleDb.OleDbConnection Private Shared Sub connect()connection = New OleDb.OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=" & IO.Path.Combine(My.Application.Info.DirectoryPath, "Fiskal.accdb") & ";Persist Security Info=False;")
I have a DataGridView which populates from an SQL query just fine in default mode
using these table names [firstName] [varchar](20) NOT NULL, [lastName] [varchar](20) NOT NULL,
[code]....
I have edited the column headers and set the column names to the same values as my table names yet the data is not showing in form load I have set datagridview.AutoGenerateColumns = False I know the data is there if I delete datagridview.AutoGenerateColumns = False then the data is shown with the default headings?
The database: "ID (Primary key)" | "Title" 0 | "title1"
[code].....
OK, before adding values to database, we should check if a row exists with this values :)TO do this, creating a Stored Procedure is a best way to deal with the database fastly.So... The problem now is, at the runtime, Miss OleDB throw this error:Microsoft Jet database engine cannot find the input table or query 'IF
i should say hi experts :D . Help me with this pretty code :)

I am using LINQ to SQL queries to return data in my application. However I find it is now needful for me to return the column Names. Try as I might I have been completely unable to find out how to do this on the internet.
So if my LINQ entity table has the properties (Last_Name, First_name, Middle_Name) I need to return[code]...
I have A database in access2007 I want retrieve column names with sql query in my project I write below code: "select column_name from information_schema.columns where table_name ='table 1' ORDER BY ORDINAL_POSITION" but display error : Could not find file 'D:ProjectsTapco_ECMTapco_ECMTapco_ECMinDebuginformation_schema.mdb'.
I am connecting to an Access database and using a parameter query with the LIKE operator to return all rows that match query. The string to search for is taken from a Textbox
sql =
"Select * FROM Allview WHERE Info Like" & "*" & CStr(TextBox1.Text) & "*" The query does not return any data in vb, but when run from access with same string, there is data returned. The connection to the database is done correctly, as I am able to return data with various other queries.
Partial code : Dim con As New OleDb.OleDbConnection[code]....
I have a csv that I need to parse into a gridview in vb.net. If I do SELECT *, I get the data without issue. However, I am in a situation where I need to reference the actual column names. And problem is, I have no control over the app that generates the csv, and they make the column names enclosed in square brackets.
How the heck can I do something like this:
Dim cmdSelect As New OleDbCommand(SELECT "[name], [height] FROM myTable")
so I get a return of data?
So, in an effort to be perfectly clear: I have an app that creates a csv with the column headers [name] and [height] in a table called myTable, and for the life of me I can't figure out how to return [name] and [height] specifically.
i recently posted a code that i had that i needed assistance for and it was solved it was for displaying all tables in a database.but now i have this code for showing all column names in a table i was in the process of turning it from oledb to sqlclient. GetOLedbSchema can be turned to getschema but when it comes to OleDbSchemaGuid
Public Shared Function getAllColumnNames(ByVal tblname As String) As String() Dim com As New SqlCommand Dim con As SqlConnection

[Code] my issue is that now i need two cases, first i need a query that will return the date created and modified of the table and i also need to know if its possible to query a list of table names in the database ordered by date created but that have a certain thing in their names. for example the database contains the following tables: [Code] and what i need the query to return is the tables that contain "Data", settings and employees are for the other functions of the program. so the query should return the 4 data tables in order of date created. but i have no idea how to go about doing that in the query, does anyone know how this is done?
Is there a way to use Meta Tales or Table names to Construct a dynamic query in LINQ?
foreach (var metaTable in db.Mapping.GetTables()) { var queryType = metaTable.RowType.Type;
[code]....
Is there a way to do something like this? The attempt above yields the error:Could not find an implementation of the query pattern for source type 'System.Data.Linq.ITable'. 'Select' not found. Consider explicitly specifying the type of the range variable 'q'.
I have made a Database.mdf that contains a table that Includes 3 diffrent Column Names.
1:"ID" This one i set to an primary key and i have also made it automaticlly put a number in order to the list. Like 1,2,3,4,5 for each data added. Data Type for this is int.
2:"WordCombination" Were i enter my word combination that i want it to look for)
3."TypeofCombination" Were i enter what the program should add to what i typed in texbox1 if it contains the WordCombination.
I want my program to se if texbox1 contains any of those WordCombinations in my database. And if thats true, Then i want it to show whats in the TypeofCombination + the text in texbox1 in texbox2. If i enter "What do you want ?" in Textbox1 i want the program to find that "What do you want ?" contains "you want" like in ID:1 WordCombination:you want. So becuse this is ture it should enter TypeofCombination in this case "Question:" + what i entered in Textbox1 to show in Textbox2.So if i write "What do you want ?" and click start. Textbox2 should show "Question: What do you want ?" If i Write "My name is Jake" and click start. Textbox2 should show "Answer: My name is Jake".If I Write "hello you Hi there Jacob" and click start. Textbox2 should show "Greeting: hello you Hi there Jacob".And i Should be able to add and delete Word Combinations Without having to change the program.
I want to create a class (I think) that has properties that correspond to column names in a database table, such that they come up in Intellisense when I type the dot after the class name. Is this possible to do?
I have a table located in a Microsoft Word document. changes has been enabled in this document. I see that I can get the collection of revisions using "ActiveDocument.Range.Revisions" . I also see that I can tell if the revision exists inside a table using "Range.Information(wdWithInTable) " .My question is this:I really need to find out the "ID#'s" that contain a revision on the "SomeText#" column. So for example, if "Some Text 1" was revised, I need to output "ID-1".I am puzzled as to how to implement this logic. Does anyone know of a way to go about this?
I am using OledDb to create/retrieve/delete data from Access databases. At one point in the solution, I the user adds data to a new table and the table name is defined by the user. The obvious problem with this is that the user could add spaces, characters, and Access/SQL keywords that are not allowed in the table name. Later in the solution, the user should be able to identify their saved table and retrieve it. I have considered the brute force method of formatting the input to remove offending characters and then reformat for the user's view, but that seems like something I would like to avoid. I have also considered placing restrictions on the textbox with masks, key event restrictions, and checks for conflicts with keywords, but I would also like to avoid that. So, my question is, does anyone have a creative solution for identifying a table name with something like 'my name is table number *1'?
I have an access table and I want to write a query that has a case in it, but it gives me an error message when running the query Error "Syntax Error missing operator in query expression"
I am trying to call a SELECT query (with parameters) in Access from VB.Net 2008. I am able to call queries without parameters using the code below. The problems are (1) how to apply the parameters to procName and (2) how to get a dataset returned. I have looked around the net for hours and have found some examples. However, they are all for ms access action (update, delete, etc) queries using ExecuteNonQuery which does not return a dataset.
I have 3 textboxes and need to search differently for each of the textboxes. For example textbox1.text is searched in column ans1, textbox2.text is searched in column ans2 and textbox3.text search in column ans3 in table Answer. is there any sql query that can do the search in one button click event.
I'm attempting to create and populate a table in a new Microsoft Access (Jet) database using VB.Net 2008 Express under Windows XP Pro SP3. The database and table are being created properly, but loading the table proceeds VERY slowly. When I am loading the table, no complicating factors that might impact performance, such as indexes or table relationships have been defined. The table to be loaded is made up of relatively short rows consisting of three single byte columns, and one (four byte) integer column. I am loading approximately 16 million rows, and this is literally taking hours, while the same data can be interactively imported into Microsoft Access from a .csv file in minutes. I am trying to batch load the rows, 64K rows at a time, in order to avoid the overhead of individually transacting/committing each row individually, but suspect that I must not be doing something right. Key code that I am using for this process is provided below.
There are two combo boxes taking user's inputs to return a record in an Access Database satisfying the requirements. This procedure is controlled by a button. However, when it reads "da.Fill(dt, "NETP_ParaList")". It reports error saying that "ArgumentException was unhandled; Object is not an ADODB.RecordSet or an ADODB.Record. Parameter name: adodb" I have no idea what this talking about.
I don't know if this is the best way to do it or not but here goes.I have an access database and a datagridview and they link via a SELECT statement at runtime.I want to total one column named LNLMTS and display the result.I am looking at using SELECT Sum LNLMTS FROM tblProduction WHERE SO=@so AND DATE=@date
I am trying to learn how I can enter data into a Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 TextBox on a form and when I Tab to the next TextBox, the data from the first TextBox is automatically appended to a Microsoft Access 2007 table. For this question, no other controls or objects are necessary.
