Apr 5, 2010i'm using the AppendText(serialPort.ReadExisting) method of the SerialPort class. i'm sending to the serial port a 12 byte frame. however in the TextBox control streams printed seem choppy as if the ReadExisting method is exiting too quick to grab all 12 bytes so i can display them at once.

Nov 14, 2011I have a table that has 9 columns, this table has about 5000 rows, but sometimes the user need to update the data in the table. The new data is in another table, with different columns names and only with 8 columns, the ninth column it's the date of the update (i know that this columns shouldn't be here...).
So for now i'm filing one datatable (the data come form a webservice that returns a dataset with this table), and after that i clean the original table and then for each row in the new datatable i call the insert command.Is there other way, better way, to do this?
Quick Find And Quick Replace Dialog Windows For 2008 IDE?
Dec 7, 2010I am developing a VB application using the Visual Studio 2008 IDE. I was making changes to my code using the Quick Replace function when the dialog window stopped displaying. Selection of Quick Find or Quick Replace from the Edit menu, as well as use of shortcut keys (CTL+F and CTL+H) all have the same affect: the IDE loses focus but no dialog windows display. Is this a known issue with an available fix?

The helper function I have written seems to do everything I want apart from update the db. Stepping through the code, the oldSr is updated by the new sr parameter but no update on submit changes.
Dataset.clear Method - What Does It Actually Means

What does it mean by removing all the rows in all tables? Is it the datagridview table? When it says "removing", does it mean that it deletes everything?
The reason I misused it is because I thought dataset.clear means it flushes the record held in dataset.
When I click on the add new icon on bindingnavigator, a new form will appear, which allows me to insert data

when I close the insert form, the parent form will be activated and datagridview will display the new record I just inserted. I thought the dataset.clear method helped display the new added record but then I realised I could do without the dataset.clear method.

VS 2008 Most Optimal Method Of Dataset To Excel?
Oct 22, 2009I am looking for some guidance with the most optimal or efficient way to export a dataset to an excel file. I have searched the forums and found a number of methods to do this. However, the code I am currently using is very inefficient as it is itterating through the rows and columns to create the excel file. The app I am working on needs to be able to create 50 or so excel files each with 500+ rows and 40-50 columns. This method seems to inefficient for my use

Mar 2, 2012I am experiencing something very bizarre when I execute the Fill method of my adapter. I've been running this query for months and all of the sudden this is happening after I installed SP1 for Visual Studio 2008. For some reason several DataRows in 2 of the 3 tables within my DataSet have errors in them when I view them in debug mode using the DataSet Visualizer. Here is a picture of what I'm talking about
It does this to random rows. If I execute the Fill method the first time, rows (5-10) will have these errors. If I execute the Fill method again rows 12-23 are affected and so on. I have no idea what is happening here.
This is effected my DataGridViews, because they don't display any rows, because of the erros. I should also note that when I run the lines of code below in the Immediate Window it says the DataSet doesn't have errors.

Apr 21, 2011I was trying to work out the best method of synchronising an update of files via vb.net. I want to automatically update some files in a few folders from an FTP site to a local drive. This would ideally be the same folder structure, but on a specified local folder. I have looked at the FTP methods in .net and am able to transfer individual files successfully, but wondered if there was an elegant method to collecting the entire folder from the FTP and it's contents to be re-created locally. I have established the reading of an XML via linq from the ftp to establish an update single and decide whether the local machine is up-to-date or not, it's just the transfer of the folders that I'm stuck on as it's different to using a IO method.

Cannot Get DataSet To Update Access Database?
Apr 16, 2010I have a form in vb8 that is set up as follows:
I have a table in my Access database calledUsers that has a name and a password (encrypted).
Using the toolbar I created aBindingSource with a name of UsersBindingSource and a dataSource ofUsers
Using the toolbar I created aDataset called with a Name and a DatasetName called Users_Dataset
Using the toolbar I created atableAdapter called UsersTableAdapter
I added two textboxes on the form and changed theirDatabindings...Text property to the corresponding field in the Database.
How to now update the database when I click Update. What the program needs to do first is encrypt the Password before saving it. I wrote the code in the TextBox2.Lostfocus event to encrypt the data a place it back into the TestBox2 field. The only samples I find on the net refer to DataGridView controls (which work) but I don't want to use them. How can I get the database to accept these changes as well as changes to radio buttons or comboboxes?

Jun 10, 2009I have a datagridview that was bound using the wizard and all the column created that way. So I haven't done any code to bind the datagridview. It will pull the data from the database and dataset just fine. My problem is when I create a new row it won't update the dataset or database. I have tried different ways that I thought it would work in the code and still haven't found a usable way to do it yet. Or if I need to do all my binding and columns through code give me an idea where to start if I have to go that route. This is my first experiences with Datagridview. I normally use comboboxes and textboxes to write to a dataset and database which all work very well.
