I was trying to work out the best method of synchronising an update of files via vb.net. I want to automatically update some files in a few folders from an FTP site to a local drive. This would ideally be the same folder structure, but on a specified local folder. I have looked at the FTP methods in .net and am able to transfer individual files successfully, but wondered if there was an elegant method to collecting the entire folder from the FTP and it's contents to be re-created locally. I have established the reading of an XML via linq from the ftp to establish an update single and decide whether the local machine is up-to-date or not, it's just the transfer of the folders that I'm stuck on as it's different to using a IO method.

The helper function I have written seems to do everything I want apart from update the db. Stepping through the code, the oldSr is updated by the new sr parameter but no update on submit changes.

I have a question regarding the synchronization in multi threading.
I have a function called send which i am calling in a for loop for every data row.
This function creates threads to send emails to different people.

But every thread created is writing to a log file at different points of time. So, there are very high chances that 2 threads write to the same file at the same time. So, do i need to use any kind of synchronization mechanisms here ? or is it fine without them ?
I want to know how dropBox is able to synchronize the large data files without replacing or re-uploading the files again to the dropbox server Example: an encrypted zip archive Suppose I've a 1GB encrypted zip archive file Fully synchronized on my computer and on the dropbox servers. On my computer I added to that zip archive file a file of size about 5MB then saved the file on my computer. Dropbox is able to synchronize zip archive file without re-uploading the whole file again instead it just update it with the small change I've done. Also TrueCrypt containers works in that manner.
MainForm having a few buttons, VolForm is inheriting MainForm. I can see this perfectly in the designer.VolForm itself contains a trackbar. Now have 2 forms. Form1 and Form2 both inherit VolForm. If I change the trackbar from Form1, and then show Form2, the trackbar is not having the same value. Is there any way to keep this trackbar the same in every form that inherits VolForm?
Beginning development with SQL Server 2008, VB - Visual Studio 2008 on an application that will deploy laptops remotely for 6 months or more. The laptops will have no network or internet connection. There is a requirement to sync DB changes via shipment of USB flash drives.
The remote app will have a subset of the home database data. Some tables need to be synced bi-directionally, some uni-directionally. When the laptop comes home, it will do one last sync, the local DB will be wiped, and it will connect to the home DB.
Being that there are some identity key columns and the remote is only a subset of the the home, I am not sure that SQL Server replication or synchronization functions can be utilized.
Should I Create SQL Server Compact DB's on the remote system when it is deployed and do a table by table compare (in code) to another compact DB created on the flash drive when a sync is needed?
I need to develop a synchronization mechanism for 2 or more containers tha contains objects (generic classes) In each container the origin of the object can be:
1) Created New
2) Imported
3) Recovered from the bin (they have been previously deleted)
The main problem that I am facing is this one If One object has been deleted in Container A it should be Deleted in Container B as well during synchronization If one object has been DELETED in Container A (1 hour ago ) and teh same object has been DELETED and RECOVERED in Container B ( 1 hour and 1 second ago) what should i do? keeping in consideration that between the 2 computer the time is surely not identical?
I am trying to test if my synchronization mechanism is set well and so for debug purposes, inserting a deliberate deadlock as under

but when i step through the code in the debugger, it runs fine without getting stuck here. I am sure there is no other thread doing a release on the mutex mtx
I don't know if my question is sql server related or vb.net or both. so I will ask it here. Let say I have 3 sql servers with replication among them connected together by vpn. let say i have a customer C1 exist on first server S1 and his account is 1000$ which is the same on second server S2 on S1 they enter a new receipt, so the customer C1 on S1 balance became 1100$ while it still 1000$ on S2, and it need 1-2 min for the replication to finished if during this 1-2 min, S2 is entering invoice, C1 balance will show 1000$ while it is actually 1100$ (because the replication did not finished yet) My first idea is to make sql query getting the customer balance from 3 servers and compare them. How I can tell that the customer account are not the same on both servers or check if the replication is finished for that table holding the customer balance?
I have working on 1 program that is for Mu Online game. Its Mu Launcher program,but i'm having trouble with it. I can't make right "Server Status" to show Online or Offline I can't make autoupdater people to have using this for theyr server.

I've been trying to get the update method to work on a DataGridView for the past 2 days and I just can't get it to happen!I'm using a "Save Button" to invoke the update and no errors are thrown but the table is not updated when the save button is pressed.

I created a reporting utility for my users to view, send (via email), export SSRS reports. I have set up date parameter boxes with calendar drop down and they are able to send via email a URL link that would either display the report via ReportViewer or send a link that would let then view the report in Excel or PDF. This is working just fine. Now I just added a button for adding new email addresses and a new windows form with a textbox for entering the email address and a command button for Save Email Address. I have a TableAdapter I created in the DataSet designer. It contains joined tables and I set it up to automatically generate Insert/Update/Delete commands. I understand that I have to write my own UpdateCommand. I did so, in the DataSet Designer, for this particular TableAdapter.
The issue is that the Update Method is not showing up via IntelliSense, when I attempt to write code like this:
vb.net Dim x as Integer = Me.DPTableAdapter.Update(), IntelliSense does not show the Update Method with the parameters I set up.I created the same exact method with another TableAdapter, in the same manner, and it worked just fine.
I also call EndEdit on the BindingSource, I just did not put it in this post.
Whenever I create a table adpater the wizard does not create and update command. It creates Select Insert and Delete but no Update command. I have a primary key in the data and have completely deleted my dataset and created connection and table adtaer from scratch with still no update command wizard says it will create it but does not.
I am unable to crack this as the end user requested to show some kind of progress bar while running a long time method or an update statement. Kindly suggest me on this ASAP.
I'm struggling to work with data in VB 2008, and find it extremely complicated! At first I couldn't even get a database to load, as VB 2008 kept complaining it was created with an older Jet engine.OK, I converted it to a newer Access format that VB 2008 finally accepted.
In trying to find out why changes weren't saved, I found a common problem was VB 2008 wiping out changes.OK I have told the compiler not to copy the older database file back over but to copy newer.Updates then supposedly happened --- no errors were reported --- but the changes were still not saved.It appears the update method didn't exist in the datatableadapter, but I got no error messages about that. No update done.
I've used the tools to configure the dataset and datatableadapter.Automatic generation of methods like update, add new, delete, etc. were supposedly done.Now, when trapping the error, I'm told the update method isn't a valid one.I found little information on that. It suggested primary keys could be a cause, but adding or deleting a primary key has no effect.I can see the fill method, and it works fine.I can't see the update method. (Apparently it is in SQL which I don't know anyway.)
However it always returns 0. I've checked and the GetPartCost function executes and returns a non-zero number but the list item cost properties are never updated.The property is just a simple property,

Checking the logs today I noticed that for some executions I got an ORA-0001 (constraint violation) error. It seems that one of the fields in the oracle table being updated is marked as unique and my dataset contains one or more records that have the same value in that field.
How is this error handled? Does it just not add the violating records? Does it hit the invalid record and quit? Does it rollback?
This is my first post on this forum, so please excuse me if I'm posting wrong. Anyway, I've been having an issue that I've never seen before and is driving me nut, I have a windows form on which I have placed many textboxes that display information from a MS SQL database. The user can then change these values and hit a "save" button which writes the changes to the database. I also have certain textboxes that with the "on leave" event (after a user enters a possible new value) trigger a method that recalculates some of the other fields based on the new information. Hopefully that all makes sense.
So the problem is, when I run through this "recalc" method the first time around, it doesn't update those textboxes that it's supposed to. However, when I put a breakpoint in and debug through it, the debugger shows it putting in the correct values into the textboxes. It's just as soon as the method is done, it puts them back to blank, or whatever they were before

I have a large problem with inheritance in vb.net. The problem is the following:
I have 2 forms => frmBase and frmChild
In frmBase i want to create a method Called StartWorking() and i want frmChild to inherit this method.
But here is the tricky thing: when frmChild.StartWorking is called i would like the following => without calling MyBase.StartWorking()
I want frmBase.StartWorking() to be executed first and after a test in frmBase.StartWorking if blnValue is true then frmChild.StartWorking has to be activated. if blnValue is false that frmChild.StartWorking cannot be activated.
I have nine pictures that I need to animate -I need to use the ToString method and a counter to concatenate a file name into a string variable from the Image.FromFile method. Once the counter reaches its maximum value, and the last picture is displayed, the counter should be reset to zero or one depending on how the first image file has been name. Also a static counter variable should be incremented in the time routine. what I have so far -- I know what I have to do; however, I just do not know how to code this properly.. Right now I have this going thru a button procedure but it needs to go through a timer.
