DataGridView Does Not Refresh After Dataset Update?
Apr 13, 2012
I have a vb.net form with a dataGridView
The dataGridView data source is the dgvTableAdapter with this sql statement
SELECT membres.ID, membres.refere_par, bands.titre,
membres_1.prenom & ' ' & membres_1.nom AS reference_nom
FROM ((bands INNER JOIN membres ON bands.ID = membres.[band])
INNER JOIN membres membres_1 ON membres.refere_par = membres_1.ID)
[Code]....
I know the delete statement works because I saw the changes in the database. If I close the form and reopen it, the dataGridView is up to date.
I have a windows form with a DataGridView control.I bound it into an attached DB file (.mdf).I perform insertion by generating a dynamic Insert statement. I then pump this sql statement into a SqlCommand object and perform ExecuteNonQuery() method. All of these is performed by handling a Button click event. The button and the gridview is located on the same form.
Public Sub InsertRow(ByVal param1 As String, ByVal param2 As String, ByVal param3 As String) Dim strConn As String = (the connection string) Dim sqlConn As New SqlConnection(strConn)
[code]....
After the code execution, the DataGridView is not updating (remains intact). I have to exit the form and reload it to have the updated gridview. For certain reasons, I can't use DataTable object. But I would like to have this gridview updated everytime I run the insertion.
I have a datagrid view containing a customer list that if if double click on a row it brings up a customer maintenance window. Once I hit a save bottom on the second form how can I automatically update the database, refresh the grid on the initial window but remain on the same row on form1 that I double clicked on in the first place. Currently I am re-loading the datagrid on the initial form with all the data once I close the second window down.
I have a datagridview that was bound using the wizard and all the column created that way. So I haven't done any code to bind the datagridview. It will pull the data from the database and dataset just fine. My problem is when I create a new row it won't update the dataset or database. I have tried different ways that I thought it would work in the code and still haven't found a usable way to do it yet. Or if I need to do all my binding and columns through code give me an idea where to start if I have to go that route. This is my first experiences with Datagridview. I normally use comboboxes and textboxes to write to a dataset and database which all work very well.
I bound my dataset to a datagridview and when I did any changes with the data in it and try to send it to the database (pressing a Button) got the error message:"InvalidOperationException error was handled.Update requires a valid UpdateCommand (or InsertCommand depend on the action)when passed DataRow collection with modified rows."I read the related posts but they didn't solve my problem. (I have primary key in the table and the AllowUserTo... properties are set to True.)My table is very simple:
I have a DataGridView bound to a DataView. The DGV is setup for FullRowSelect and is ReadOnly. The first column contains a CheckBox to show that the Row is ready for processing. The user double-clicks on the row and the box is checked in the CellDoubleClick event. This works great.
I have a RadioButton on the page to hide any checked items. This allows the user to only have to look at the work that needs to be done. I use a filter on the DataView to make this happen. At the end of the CellDoubleClick, I call my ApplyFilter method, but the current row still shows up.
I got around this once before by writing some code to see if I needed to move forward or backward a row and also compared if there were any rows available, etc.
It seems to me that this relates to the value not being persisted back to the DataSet until the CurrentRow is changed in the DGV. Is there a way to force this data back into the DataSet without having to programatically change the value directly in the DataSet?
I have a manually created a dataset (dsPickingList) that I add data too as the user inputs data on a form. There is a datagridview on my form of which it's datasource is set to dsPickingList. What I would like to do is spot if a user deleteds a row from the datagridview and update the dataset (dsPickingList) as it is ultimatly this dataset that is stored to the db and printed, not the DataGridView.[code]This is why I need the action from the DataGridView to update the dataset
What I am trying to do is update existing records in a dataset with an unbound datagridview. It updates just fine but I have added a simple backcolor change for errors. What I don't understand is it will update fine but throw the backcolor = red at the same time. Am I overlooking something here?
vb.net For Each dr As DataRow In Form1.DbDataSet.Tables("tblInventory").Select() For Each row As DataGridViewRow In DataGridView1.Rows If row.Cells("colInventoryID").Value = vbEmpty Then 'Do Nothing Else If dr.Item("Inventory ID").ToString() = row.Cells("colInventoryID").Value.ToString() And
[code]....
I'm trying to get this working in a test application before adding it to my main project, so that's why the names of controls are the way they are.The errors I'm trying to show are if "Inventory ID", "Cart" and "Shelf" do not match. When they don't match it doesn't update, which is what it is supposed to do. However, if they do match they update just fine but also show the Inventory ID error. If I comment out that ElseIf for the Inventory, it throws the Cart error. It's like the ElseIf blocks get called even if the If statement is true...
I am a vb.net programmer. I use Visual Studio 2005.I am developing a database application and I use dataset for data binding to SQL Server database. I added a table adapter to dataset and use that data table on the form as data grid view. Then I debug the project and I can't see any column and any data on data grid view. I rebuilt the dataset but nothing come out.
I have a client database, with a form which shows a full list of all my clients in a DataGridView. The Load Event of the form fills the dataset - which works fine.
Under the DataGridView I have a link to 'add a new client' which opens a new form and prompts the user for the new client's details. On clicking Save, it excecutes a SQL stored procedure to insert the new client directly into the SQL database. This also works fine.
On closing the 'Add new client' form, it returns to the form with the DataGrid (which was always visible). However, the DataGridView (populated from my DataSet) doesn't show the newly added client.
I made sure the call was being executed by sticking a MsgBox line in the procedure, so I know it runs - yet it doesn't update or refresh the DataSet.This is exactly the same code that is in the Form Load event, so why does it not work? If I close the main form and re-open it, it reloads the DataSet and shows the newly added record.I've also tried putting the code in other Events rather than Form Closing and still it does not work.
I have a form whith a DataGridView. When the DGV is double-clicked another form opens representing a single record. When this form updates back to the database and closes, how can I automatically refresh the DataSet in the original form containing the DataGridView? As it stands now the original form still contains the deleted record.I suppose handling the original form's Focus/Lost Focus events and refresh the DataSet might work, but is this route a bad idea?
Environment = VB.NET 2005 & Pervasive SQL 9.5 ADO.NET In a simplified example, I have single database table (customers) with the columns "customer_code_PK" and "customer_name" This table is presented in VB.NET 2005 as a single form datagrid (bindingsource/dataset). In this example, the database table is populated with the following data
I have a main form with player information (it's a sports application). To add or edit a player the user presses a button which opens another form. They either add or edit from this point. When they click 'OK', it saves the data to the database table then goes back to the main form. The amended or new info doesn't appear. If they close the application, then reopen, the new info appears in the datagrid now.
how I can get the datagrid to refresh once I press 'OK' on the input form?
I am trying to update my form once the delete button is clicked. There are several fields like Name, Date, Date of Birth and so on. Once I delete record I want the form to automatically load with new / updated data. This form fetches data from MS Access using OLEDB. Once when I close the application and reopen then form will be updated with new values. But I want this to happen once the form loads after deleting.[code]
I'm making a game using vb.net and GDI+. I've been encountering frame rate problems and one solution that was suggested to me was to only refresh certain parts of the screen. I was also told one way to make this happen was to use rectangle or region structures and since I already have these as hitboxes it seems like a perfect way to efficiently reduce the drop in frame rate.
The only problem is that I have no idea how this would work and so far my google searches have been fruitless. Yet again I turn to this very helpful forum, can anyone help me? By the way I've set doublebuffered to true on my form to get rid of the annoying flicker.
Questions. How do I update or refresh only certain parts of the screen?
I'm using a timer set to tick every millisecond to run everything and it refreshes the screen every 2 milliseconds simply using me.invalidate; each time it ticks things move a little bit and stuff happens that triggers other events etc. The problem is that when the framerate supposedly "drops" things start to change. "Bullets" and projectiles appear to travel many times faster and much less smoothly than they do when there a less objects moving on the screen, it's almost as if the timer runs faster... What's the reason for this? Is there a way I can change this? I remember hearing about a "stopwatch" or something that someone used in their game that was more consistent or something.
Also I'm aware that vb.net with GDI+ isn't exactly the best language to make a video game in but it's for a school project and I have no choice in the matter.
how would i go about resetting or refreshing a table adapter before it fills a data grid view (load event). As i have tried a number of things to get it to refresh but it seems that the data connection to the Database is simply not closing and re- openingwould i have to program it to be a manual thing to retrieve the data from the database or am i just not doing it right
i am using a listview on my admin form to see those who are logged in. so i have a table which captures users logging in and logging out. this table data is reflected onto this listview. but i want the listview to refresh itself as soon as the user has logged out. this way the admin doesn't have to keep pressing refresh.so i want to know if there is way to refresh the listview on database update.
I'm trying to refresh the datagrid after using the SQL UPDATE statement. The data changes physically in the database but the datagrid is not affected. The data is changed only after i restart the program.
How can i get the datagrid to refresh or update? I have tried using, among other code, the refresh() method, but it does not work.

For some reason my tab pages won't update their data when I change the data contained in them. I have to scroll to the next Company and then scroll back for the changes to be reflected in that particular tab. I have no clue why this is as when I walk through my code in debugging, it shows that the appropriate labels are being set the appropriate values. But if I have one of the tabs as the one in focus when I change my company, it is updated correctly.
I have a mdiChild which changes it's text (caption) when I click on a MenuItem. The Text changes as it should, but the mdiWindowListItem does not change. So I tried to refresh it and update it, but both commands didn't make any difference.
To me it seems that Update, Refresh and Repaint all do the same job but there are no doubt rules about when to use which. I would be grateful for any enlightenment.
Imagine you expand onto 'Sofas and armchairs' and click 'fabric sofas', it will redirect to next page on click and it will send data '10661' to the next page. Then the listview will updated with reference '10661'. After that click on another link, maybe leather sofas. The listview will re-update table with new reference '10662'
I've made a windows form in which I can change names in my databasetable 'stations'. To select which station to change I've used a databound ComboBox which gets all stations from the database table.
Now when I change the name of a station I want to get it immediatly updated in my combobox without restarting the application.
how to trigger a refresh on a form when an update occurs in my business logic.
This isn't an issue for 95% of my forms because they call the update from the form that needs to be updated. However, In some cases an inner form does and update that requires an outer form to reflect this. I've read about Handles, Delegates, AddressOf etc etc and I'm drowning in options.
In simple terms, I need three things to happen
1. Form2 (inner form) has updated info, so the user clicks Save
2. Save calls my Data Access Layer and updates the database
3. Form1 (outer form) has a DataGrid that needs to be notified so it can update via a Sub LoadGrid
It's stage 3 I can't do. How do I trigger a Sub in Form2 (LoadGrid) to do the refresh from an external class.
