DataGridView - VS 20008 - Automatically Update Database, Refresh Grid On Initial Window
Feb 8, 2010
I have a datagrid view containing a customer list that if if double click on a row it brings up a customer maintenance window. Once I hit a save bottom on the second form how can I automatically update the database, refresh the grid on the initial window but remain on the same row on form1 that I double clicked on in the first place. Currently I am re-loading the datagrid on the initial form with all the data once I close the second window down.
When i open a file with the proces method en i try to open another file, the openFileDialog box start with the last directory and filename. In the property i write a initial directory. How can reach the situation that the box always start with the initial directory i give.
The dataGridView data source is the dgvTableAdapter with this sql statement
SELECT membres.ID, membres.refere_par, bands.titre, membres_1.prenom & ' ' & membres_1.nom AS reference_nom FROM ((bands INNER JOIN membres ON bands.ID = membres.[band]) INNER JOIN membres membres_1 ON membres.refere_par = membres_1.ID)
[Code]....
I know the delete statement works because I saw the changes in the database. If I close the form and reopen it, the dataGridView is up to date.
I have a windows form with a DataGridView control.I bound it into an attached DB file (.mdf).I perform insertion by generating a dynamic Insert statement. I then pump this sql statement into a SqlCommand object and perform ExecuteNonQuery() method. All of these is performed by handling a Button click event. The button and the gridview is located on the same form.
Public Sub InsertRow(ByVal param1 As String, ByVal param2 As String, ByVal param3 As String) Dim strConn As String = (the connection string) Dim sqlConn As New SqlConnection(strConn)
[code]....
After the code execution, the DataGridView is not updating (remains intact). I have to exit the form and reload it to have the updated gridview. For certain reasons, I can't use DataTable object. But I would like to have this gridview updated everytime I run the insertion.
i am using a listview on my admin form to see those who are logged in. so i have a table which captures users logging in and logging out. this table data is reflected onto this listview. but i want the listview to refresh itself as soon as the user has logged out. this way the admin doesn't have to keep pressing refresh.so i want to know if there is way to refresh the listview on database update.
I have a standard DataGridView. One of the columns is a DataGridViewComboBoxColumn. When I select one of the ComboBox items, I want to trap the change and add additional columns based on the item selected in the ComboBox. I've tried using CellValueChanged for the DataGridView column, and a bunch of other events, but none of them is fired when the DataGridViewComboBox value is changed. What event can I trap to make this happen? Right now as I said, I am using CellValueChanged, but of course the event doesn't fire until I click on another cell...

I have two tables: HolidayRequests & HolidayEntitlementWithin the Holiday Requests I have 1 field:DaysWhen a staff member adds a holiday request it is stored as a number in the holiday requests table in days field (there are multiple requests with different days)
i have a prob that i have a gridview on the parent window. when i open a child window using showmodaldialog, i enter some data in the textboxes. now when i close my child window i want to display the text entered by me in the grid. i want to know how can i access the grid in child window
I followed the suggestion from [URL].. this thread. however i face a bit of a problem in my case i have a combobox at row(i).cells(0) the code seems to take the last new rows where there's not record and shows error the debug error msg is A first chance exception of type 'System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException' occurred in System.Data.dll INSERT into taken(typeID,quantity) VALUES (5,39)INSERT into taken(typeID,quantity) VALUES (,)
I need to display an two-column editable grid not bound to a database. I took a look at ListView with Mode=Details, but it appears that only cells in the first column can be edited. I then took a look at DataGridView, and am having two issues:
1. When editing a cell, it adds a new row: [url] How can I prevent this?
2. I don't like the grey background and would like the grid to fill the whole space, right and below.
BTW, if you know of a good tutorial on using the DataGridView unbound, I'm interested. [Code]
If using a datagridview to update a database and the datagridview is bound to a bindingsource which has its datasource as the table to be updated: where dshould you place the tableadapter.update(mydatarow)
I have a datagridview and need to do some formatting to it. On load the row 0 column 0 cell is highlighted. I need users to click on datagridview to select a value. The issue is with the initial load highlight it looks like the first row is already selected when in fact it is now. How can this highlight be disabled? Each row of has 7 cell, the user is able to select any of the cell of a row and the corresponding row ID is selected. The issue is that only that one cell is highlighted.
I would like the entire row highlighted regardless of what cell in that row is clicked on. One of the columns is a status value. I would like to color the text based on the value. For example if the Status is opened I want the text to be red, if the status is closed the text color should be default.
I've in my app many self created custom controls (not as a real active x control, but a simple modified class). In this case I'm writing about a groupbox. I've placed many of them on different forms. But now, I want to change the backcolor of this controls. I change the backcolor in the class, rebuild the project, and the backcolor didn't change. Why? I don't want to place the groupbox again, it would be too much work. It should be a chance to do this whithout placing the groupboxes again.
- on clicking a treeview, for every project of this customer, a new MDIchild opens, where the products of this project are displayed
- the MDIchild is basically a DataGridView, which is connected to the products-table via a DataView
my Problem comes after changing a value in the products DataGridView:
- if i do not change the row, the changes will not go back to the database after an update
- if i do change the row after entering a new value, everything works fine
The strange thing is, that in both cases, the value in the DataTable is changed, the DataSet is "hasChanges=True" and the DataRow's state is "Modified".
I want to save changes made in the Datagridview back to the database. I came accross Martin's solution HEREbut get an error: NUllReferenceExpection was unhandled. Object Reference not set to an instance of an object. Here's my code:
Dim con As New SqlConnection("Data Source=.SQLExpress;Initial Catalog=MyDb;Integrated Security=True") Dim cmd As SqlCommand
I'm using DataAdaptors to pull data into a DataGridView. I want to make changes to the data via my DataGridView and then update the database when the user clicks the 'Update' button, but I can't figure it out. Below is my code.
I am using VB NET 2005 and Sql server 2000.I have 2 tables which have 1 to M relationship.let's say:ProductionMaster (ModelNo, Description)ProductionDetails (ModelNo, ItemNo, ItemDescription, QuantityPer)once the form load, I fill the tblProductionMaster which ModelNo into txtModelNo.so once the txtModelNo got event "Changed", the datagrid will be filled base on ModelNo. (in this case I use dataset, datatable and dataadapter).but the I only use this query SELECT ItemNo, ItemDescription, QuantityPer FROM tblProductionDetails WHERE ModelNo = '" & txtModelNo.text & "' and filled it into datagridview.the question is how I update the DATABASE if user change the value in datagrid?let's say, user change the ItemNo from "A" to "B" in column ItemNo in datagrid so the rest column (ItemDescription and QuantityPer) will be followed change, how I update the database once the cell lost its focus?
I have connected my access database to vb.net and program is capable to show the database in the datagridview. but what i want is when i change the data in the datagridview and click onto update button, changes i made should be saved in database so when i execute the application again i should be able to see the updated database in the datagridview.
I'm facing a problem while updating data in a database through datagridview. I'm changing the cells using a for loop and then updating db using below code. All data rows get updated but 1 (the last one).
Im trying to make a simple database editor using DataGridView.I have one DataGridView containing a lot of data on products and some parameters on how they should be tested. Some of these parameters, for example "Test method", is just a number. But if I look in the table for Test Methods that number has lots of other parameters. So if I select a "Test Method" Cell and click a button that table opens in a new form with just that "Test Method" (if I for example have selected a cell with the number 1, Test Method 1 will be shown in the new form). So far everything Ive said works. I can even change values and update it to database in the first "Products" table. So here is the problem The DataGridView that shows the products is bound to a table and always shows the same thing which makes it easy to change and update using the following code
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Me.INPUT_PRODUCTSTableAdapter.Update(Me.TestPlattformDataSet) Me.TestPlattformDataSet.AcceptChanges() End Sub
This will change later when I add a search function. Then this will need the same modification aswell. The DataGridView thats shows the other parameters cant be updated using just this code cause I get an error that says
"InvalidOperationException" "Update requires a valid UpdateCommand when passed DataRow collection with modified rows."
It seems like the problem is that because I change the data under run its not really bound to the database. And I havent found any complete solution to this. I have found some similiar problems and it seems I need to update each row using the command
TableAdapter.Update(DataRow)
Here follows the entire code for showing the Parameter Table in a DataGridView. This does not work.
Public Class Form3 'ID is the value from the cell selected in the Products table Dim ID As Integer
