View 2 RepliesI have written server code in vb.Net. I want it to read to variables sent by another server's HTTP 'GET' request. For example the first server will send this URL [URL]msgid=$messageid where the values to be used by my server are sender, receiver, msgdata, recvtime and msgid I have written my code but it only reads the address sent by the http server and locates for the file in the server's root directory. I want the server to be reading the variables sent by the other server using the HTTP 'GET' request. My code is shown below
' the web server only accepts get requests.
If Mid(LCase(sbuffer), 1, 3) <> "get" Then
'if not GET request then close socket and exit

I'm creating a small program to read from an SQL server, loading result into an array, pivoting the array to my liking and mailing it out to selected members of a group. It's going to be run once a day with Windows schedule. I have the connection, query and mail sorted, but not the datareader to array bit.

The program allows users to insert Documents along with a bunch of their attributes into the program. The documents are stored in a relational database. One of the required functionalities is allowing the user to look for such documents. The User normally search directly for the obvious attributes of the document, like a unique ID, or it's Title. The problem is that from the search parameters is not allways known which ones will the user fill. For example the user inserts the name and version of the deocument, another time the user enters part of the Title and the person that delivered the document, or might just enter the document number and nothing else. Some of the data might even be incomplete, like title, name of the person who created the document and so on. The idea from the person who designed the system (I'm only reimplementing it) was to allow easier searches for the user, and allowing the user to search for more parameters tod with the idea that "the more parameters, the more specific results", since the results are always group of documents instead of single documents.

Is there a way to create users for SQL express in Vb.net?
Is it feasible to deploy a VB.NET windows forms application with a SQL Server back end where no users have direct access to SQL Server? The idea is that there is no way someone at the client site with admin capabilities could mess up the data definition, or directly alter data. I always assumed that somebody with the client should get admin capabilities, but perhaps not.
The application will have to have the capability of creating logins, doing backups, perhaps running scripts (encrypted?) For upgrades, and whatever else a user with elevated privileges would do. I guess the application would have a hard-coded account with admin privileges for this purpose. Is this a common way to deploy an application? The application uses SQL Server Express, which is installed with the application. The database will be installed with the application.
I am wondering if it is possible to read in the encrypted value of a Windows users password so I can preload a textbox with the value? I have a checkbox on my .NET form -> Use Workstation Logon. When the user checks this box, the username and password fields are populated respectively.

View 3 RepliesTo start, I should probably mention that I have almost NO knowledge on coding, MySQL, or anything in that category. I have watched some simple Visual Basic tutorials and I am attempting to make a software in Visual Basic 2010.What I need to do is connect all of the users of the software. For example, in the software there will be a label. When somebody using the software enters something into the label using a text box, I want it to show up for all users using the software. I am going to take a guess and assume that a MySQL database will need to be connected?

I would like to store some app data in a 'default system folder', so when I launch the program it will know where to look for it's own settings. As a matter of fact I only need to store there a path to the files used by the program. Users will be able to choose where to put them (simplified installation). The program has to know where to look for them.
Am I creating the folder properly? As you can see I'm referring to C:... The folder structure presented here comes from my laptop running on Windows 7 Ultimate. Maybe the C:... can be somehow defined by some sort of a system 'shortcut'. Following the above example the program would look for those in C:... , but maybe I can use something like ~~ default.app.settings.My Program Name ~~~. How does it work? Have no idea how to call it properly, but I'm sure you will know what I mean.

I have an asp.net web app that uses forms-based authentication, a SqlMembershipProvider (using an encrypted password format), and a SqlRoleProvider. I need to know if it's possible to administer the users (create new users, assign them to roles, etc.) from a windows application - the powers that be don't want any administrative functionality in the web app itself. Here is the membership provider definition from web.config:
