Does somebody have experience in populating excel and word documents from .net application?
What is proposed way: jet, com, xml? Is there any preferred way from Microsoft side?
What would be pros and cons for all 3 approaches?
I use a code like this which perfectly works and creates MS Excel files so I can create Excel files and save my data into it.I also use a similar code to read the data, however, it only read and writes Excel 97-2003 files, and does not support Excel 2007 file format![code]...

What would be the best approach for creating MS Word 2007 documents with vb.net that contains signature lines? I am currently in the planning phase of a project and I'm trying to gather some info. The idea would be to upgrade this program we have already developed(using vb.net) to generate .docx files that contain signature lines that are created progmatically. The signatures would be added later by the user through a workflow in SharePoint I just need to create the document with the lines. I have seen different tutorials on creating word docs, but not sure which method would be the best for what I'm doing. Where should I start looking?
Also, there doesnt seem to be too many tutorials on adding signatures line through code, more specifically how to automate the signature line setup. e.g. Who should sign, signers name, signers email address. How do I set these paramaters through code?

Sometimes it hangs on one of the WordApp or WordDoc statements in TestSub1; sometimes it gets all the way through TestSub1 without problems but then hangs in TestSub2. Often it leaves an instance of WinWord running so that I have to kill it in Task Manager or reboot the system.

this is the code to convert word documents to excel. but i am getting error at underlines portion..the error is name not declared what should i do..I got thios code frm net and i just pasted it in visual studio..
I'm using vb.net to check that certain Excel or Word documents exist in a folder.
EG

If the documents are created using Excel 97 or Word 97 the files are found. If the the documents are created using Excel 2007 or Word 2007 the files are not found.
I have checked the permissions between the two different versions and they appear to be the same.

Do not just be read-only, because the citizen can click the Office button or Save and "Save As".
I am proficient in Visual Basic, but I think I need to use .net and move with the times to achieve what I want.I am trying to write an application which extracts text from documents (.doc, .pdf, .xls etc. etc) using IFilter.I have found a very good example application in C# (Using IFilter in C# - CodeProject) which does what I want, but I am really struggling with C#.Does anybody know if there is a way to achieve the same results (i.e. extracting text from documents using IFilter) in VB?I have found a few examples on the web which do not seem to explain much - most examples I see are in C#.

View 1 RepliesI have an Excel 2007 spreadsheet with data about my golf group, e.g., each row has name, phone number, handicap, etc.I want to write a VB 2008 application to read each row, extract the appropriate column data, and then print it out. I can't find any help on how to do it.
For example, I thought I'd have to go to the references and add the Microsoft Excel 12.0 object, then import Microsoft.office.interop Once done, my thought on a simple line of code to just display the A1 box would be:

Running that results in an error exception. So I'm clueless. Any hints or pointers on what to do, especially how to contruct a loop to read the contents of each column in each row, process and move to the next row.

how I can use excel 2003 and excel 2007 on my application. I add a reference to Excel 12.0 Object but this one is not compatible with Excel 2007 and i think if i add Excel 11 Object it will not run on excel 2007.

I am attempting to write the entire contents of an ADO.NET DataSet to an Excel 2007 spreadsheet and, while having partial success, I am unable to dump the contents of the DataSet into the .xlsx file. "Partial success" meaning that I can generate the spreadsheet(s) ok, but cannot get the DataAdapter.Update to work.

I have an excel database with one column and thousands of rows of "number" data. I need to import the data into my form read the first entry, run an algorithm then move the result to the second column then move to the second entry and so on. I am having issues with where to begin. I am able to convert the excel database to a text file if it makes it easier.The algorithm that needs to be ran consists of reading each character one at a time and is as follows:ENTRY example: 12358458754The characters 1,3,8,5,7,4 need to be summed then multiplied by 3. These are all the characters starting with the first one and skipping every other one. I am reading an excel file. When everything passes the edits, it is then written to a database. However, if any cell in the row fails an edit, I would like to write a new worksheet (called Errors) containing all of the information from the row which failed.

I have been trying to figure out how to read paragraph content which exists a heading. The heading itself is part of the table of contents. The heading will have a particular style (say Heading 1). For example: "Introduction" is a entry in Table of content with style Heading 1. All goes fine with development and running on development PC, but when I publish it for offline installation, and deploy it on Client PC having Windows XP with Office 2007, it gives error on oDoc.SaveAs2 line, and program crashes.
