I have an excel database with one column and thousands of rows of "number" data. I need to import the data into my form read the first entry, run an algorithm then move the result to the second column then move to the second entry and so on. I am having issues with where to begin. I am able to convert the excel database to a text file if it makes it easier.The algorithm that needs to be ran consists of reading each character one at a time and is as follows:ENTRY example: 12358458754The characters 1,3,8,5,7,4 need to be summed then multiplied by 3. These are all the characters starting with the first one and skipping every other one. I will call them "odds" (not referring to numeric value)The characters that are skipped, I will call them "evens", need to be summed together then added to the result of "odds".

I am reading an excel file. When everything passes the edits, it is then written to a database. However, if any cell in the row fails an edit, I would like to write a new worksheet (called Errors) containing all of the information from the row which failed.

Does somebody have experience in populating excel and word documents from .net application?
What is proposed way: jet, com, xml? Is there any preferred way from Microsoft side?
What would be pros and cons for all 3 approaches?

View 8 RepliesI have a VB.net 2005 app using the Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.dll version 11, deployed on a number of XP machines with Office 2003 installed. On one and only one machine I get the following error:Error -2147467261 Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.The line which triggers the error is:
xlSheet.SaveAs(strPathXLS)
xlSheet has been previously defined by
Dim xlSheet As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet
This should save an Excel file in a folder on the desktop. I can save a file from Excel in that folder, and create a new Excel file in it from the right-click option. The app is working correctly on the development machine and at least 8 other XP boxes on site.All Office and dotNet 2 updates have been applied.Office and dotNet have been uninstalled and reinstalled to no effect.
I'm converting older VBA code to VB. I'm using Visual Studio or VB 2010 but am new to this "oop" approach and not a seasoned programmer. Scenario:

I want to do the following in Vb.NET 2005 windows form
1. saving Ms-office documents in Access 97 using VB.NET
2. Opening the saved document in Access 97 using VB.NET and show to user after user clicking a link correspoding to the record
3. After user modified the document/xls file, it should once again save into Access 97 database.[URL]..This document explains how to open and save a document from BLOG fields.But without physically saving the document into local hard disk, is it possible to open in OLE control? and after modifing saving back to Access 97 database.
I am trying to read excel data (Excel 2007 SP1, on Windows XP SP3) with visual basic .net 2008 (VB 9.0 SP1). I have tried several attempts and whatever I do I am getting the following error message: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException was unhandled ErrorCode=-2147319784 Message="Altes Format oder ungültige Typbibliothek. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80028018 (TYPE_E_INVDATAREAD))" Source="Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel" Message="Altes Format oder ungültige Typbibliothek." Translated: Old format or unknown type libraryI have added the reference "Microsoft Excel 12.0 Object Library" to my project. I am assuming that I might have to add a different or an additional reference, but I do not have any clue which one to use. List of things I have already done:- Searched other forums- Altered the language settings- Tried it on an other Computer (Win XP SP3, Excel 2007, Visual Basic 2008 Express)- Ran the diagnostics tool in Excel - Updated all updates etc...- Reinstalled Visual BasicI really do not have any clue why it should not work?

I have a really modular application in which modules interact with each other for many, many tasks. Lately I have been making some changes to fix some bugs and some processes are now taking longer (not making the application unusable though).I now want to log the times it takes to perform each action, also taking into account interactions with other objects, to identify where is it taking long. This logging code would most likely be temporary. So, the question is: How can I write all these actions's latencies (or timeStarted and TimeEnded perhaps) to a single file from all the objects?

I have two xml files. I have to read them and return as a List( Of object). Here is my function.
Public Function GetData(ByVal name As String, ByVal city As String) As List(Of Object)
'Return Nothing
End Function
This is my first time using a list vs an array but I'm having a bit of trouble. I am trying to read a textfile into a list of song objects. I am reading the file successfully into the list however after the loop ends the program stops executing the load event and ignores the populateListBox() procedure. Any thoughts.

I have the following code below in which I have a class with some class level Excel objects defined.When I call excelModule.Test from another class all these Excel objects are getting created and I can see an Excel instance in Task manager.
Do we have unload event for class to release these objects?

Anyone know of some code out there that does this already? I have a bunch of pages with data grids on them in an admin website they want to export them to Excel, was hoping someone had this written already
View 1 RepliesAs it is right now I have a bit of code that kind of looks like this (a little paraphrased but Im sure you get the idea)[code]I thought for sure the above would work but it still seems that I am missing something, when I open the excel sheet nothing was printed. This would cut down the lines of code that I have in half easily, so I would love to find a solution for this [code]But the excel sheets still do not update with the new information.
View 1 RepliesI need to create a collection of millions of objects, each object has 3 double and one integer fields.If I remember (after more than 20 years without using C) in C you would allocate enough memory using a struct and an array, and read all the file content in one shot.In VB I created a class with the 4 members, and this constructor:
Sub New(BR As IO.BinaryReader)
X = BR.ReadDouble
Y = BR.ReadDouble
[code]....
just hoping that someone may be able to point me to some information where I can create VBA objects in vb.net (I am using VS2008). For example, I would like to create a new object in VBA with the command (Dim x as Matrix) where 'Matrix' is an object with various properties and methods.
View 15 RepliesI have created a COM Object via VB .NET and exposed some functions that I wish to call in Excel using VBA. I am currently trying to pass an array of objects as a result to VBA but Excel is complaining the following:
'Function or interface marked as restricted, or the function uses an automation type not supported in Visual Basic.'
I have looked around on the internet and have seen similar issues but not to one I am trying to do.My VB .NET function, which I wish to call in Excel is declared as follows:
Public Function CallArray(ByVal serviceName As String, _
ByVal effectiveDate As String,
ByVal serviceParams() As System.Object,
ByRef ArrayRes() As System.Object) As System.Boolean
VBA is complaining about the System.Objects my question is how the heck are you supposed to pass and return arrays from .NET to VBA. Also the data that will be in the ArrayRes() is mixed type, its not just strings etc, its an array of arrays that can contain strings, integers doubles etc.I chose VB .NET because I assumed it would be possible to map to VBA easier.if System. Object and Arrays in VB .NET is not the way, ie maybe theres another way via collections or lists, then Im open to that. I just need to get this data into VBA.Also I could move over to C# if needs be.
I need to migrate from Excel 2003 VBA to Excel 2007 VBA. When Microsoft introduced Excel 2007 it removed many objects from the previous versions and added some new objects. Also it hid some properties of particular objects. These hidden properties can be viewed by going to the object browser, right clicking any object and selecting "Show Hidden Members". My problem is I need to access these hidden properties. Is there any way I can access these properties. I can successfully migrate from Excel 2003 VBa to Excel 2007 VBA with the same functionality?
View 5 RepliesI have a website. In it, I have a button which will export some data from a SQL database to Excel. I want to open an excel workbook on the client and paste the data there. This all works fine locally, but when i publish it, I get this error:ActiveX component can't create object.[code]Have searched the net, and it seems the problem is permission related. Can anyone explain to me how to configure my server so that I can use clientside Excel?
