I have the following code below in which I have a class with some class level Excel objects defined. When I call excelModule.Test from another class all these Excel objects are getting created and I can see an Excel instance in Task manager.
Do we have unload event for class to release these objects?
Module excelModule
Public myRange As Excel.Range
I have a managed class that uses a COM that looks like this.
[Code]....
Since I am using an unmanaged dll through a COM-Interob dll I am wondering if I need free the innerobj manually or if the gc is smart enough to do it automagically if I call ReleaseObject() My class implements IDisposable and I do the following atm: Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ReleaseComObject(myobj) Do I need to take care of releasing all inner objects that are created by the COM Object or not? And If I do have to do it, does the order matter (first inner then parent vs parent then inner)?
I have developed a small window application, having lot of insert and select scripts. It runs fine for 3 times but when i run it 4th time it gives me Error "Out Of Memory Exception". I observed that in my task manager Sqlserver.exe process occupies memory around 167000K. Then I killed it. and again run the code, this time it occupy 12000K memory. Again I run it...the memory increases and stops at 87125K. All It means i the C#.net objets are not disposed well.
I have tried for GC.GetTotalMemory() But failed? How can I release objects?
I have been dealing with this problem for awhile now, and ever since I tried publishing my application, I keep getting this error:Error1Could not find file 'Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls, Version=6.0.0.0, Culture=*, PublicKeyToken=6595b64144ccf1df, ProcessorArchitecture=*, Type=win32'.ifxtweet2
What are the best practices to develop a software in such a way that I can release updates, I mean I can release an update which replace the existing executable but in case I have added some new references (dlls) to the project this won't work ? Is there any way I can do it without running an MSI?
I changed my VB2008 Express development system from Windows XP to Windows 7.After installing Windows 7 I installed VS2010 with VB2010 Express.Tried that and had issues so I installed VS2008 with VB2008 Express. The application I was developing with VB2008 on my XP system will compile and run in the debug environment with VB2008 on Windows 7 but the Release build (double clicking the .exe in the Release directory) will not. An information box pops up stating the application stopped working. No application Form ever showed up on the screen. I can run a simple application I start from scratch on this new setup. The release .exe compiled on my old XP system fails in the same way. What could be the problem? The application of interest uses an SQL Server CE database. A reference forSystem.Data.SqlServerCe is included in the References. What could be different about running in the debug environment vs running the
I've got a VB.net application. Currently the release version of the application is produced without a PDB file. This gives me error logs lacking useful details such as line numbers. I'm looking at including the PDB files with future builds but i'd like to know what the advantages and disadvantages of this are (performance wise, size wise, code security wise)
An application that has 3 Webbrowsers instantiated at design time navigates to webbrowser2 15 times every minute with a different webpage. Webbrowser2 is disposed of after each web page is received and processed. The size of the private application memory continues to grow as when the disposal was not instigated. The application memory grows to 1GB and then the program stops responding. Any suggestions? [Code]
I am making an application that will organize the movies and their release dates for me and that it will notify me whenever a movie is released. So far I have the layout almost done with some parts missing.
BASICS
1. At the top as you can see I want the text to display the current day and having the tool tip to say "Today is Tuesday 19, 2009" while I want the text to be centered.
2. I want to have a poster with a specific size (dimensions) that will be displayed when the movie is selected at the data grid and I want the buttons to be able to select the previous or next data grid line, meaning next/previous movie.
3. I want to make the buttons either check all the boxes or uncheck them all. And I want the validate button to be able to compare the date of the selected movie with the current day and tell me If it was released today or not.
4. I will make a menu at the top that will be giving you the ability to add movies or select and delete movies, while when adding being able to specify a poster for the movie.
5. I want every time that I run the app to automatically check the dates and either ask me to remove those who have been released some time ago or give me a message like "Movie was released today".
I am converting several VBA projects to Windows form applications. The only problem I have is that some of the functionality of Excel is essential to the application, such as R1C1 formulas. I do not want to instantiate the Excel application or access saved worksheets. All of the data is retrieved by querying Oracle databases. 2-Dimensional arrays are not an option because the columns contain differing datatypes, and DataGridViews are too slow to work with.
I thought simply dimming a Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet object would be enough, but the program kept failing and upon inspecting the object's elements in debug mode, I found that every value says this:
{"Unable to cast COM object of type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.WorksheetClass' to interface type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel._Worksheet'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID '{000208D8-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}' failed due to the following error: No such interface supported (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004002 (E_NOINTERFACE))."}
1. F11 => my application minimizes and hides another window (windowHandle is its handle), then sends there WM_RBUTTONDOWN (right mouse button click&hold).
2. F12 => my application unhides and restores that window, then sends WM_RBUTTONUP (right mouse button release).
The problem is when I press F11, and then click somewhere (so windowHandle loses focus), the right mouse button releases automatically, but I want it could be released only after I press F12. Here is part of my
Public Sub Tick() Dim windowHandle As IntPtr = FindWindow(vbNullString, "App") If GetAsyncKeyState(Keys.F11) Then
[CODE]...
So, is there any way how to not release right mouse button?
Anyone know of some code out there that does this already? I have a bunch of pages with data grids on them in an admin website they want to export them to Excel, was hoping someone had this written already
As it is right now I have a bit of code that kind of looks like this (a little paraphrased but Im sure you get the idea)[code]I thought for sure the above would work but it still seems that I am missing something, when I open the excel sheet nothing was printed. This would cut down the lines of code that I have in half easily, so I would love to find a solution for this [code]But the excel sheets still do not update with the new information.
just hoping that someone may be able to point me to some information where I can create VBA objects in vb.net (I am using VS2008). For example, I would like to create a new object in VBA with the command (Dim x as Matrix) where 'Matrix' is an object with various properties and methods.
I have created a COM Object via VB .NET and exposed some functions that I wish to call in Excel using VBA. I am currently trying to pass an array of objects as a result to VBA but Excel is complaining the following:
'Function or interface marked as restricted, or the function uses an automation type not supported in Visual Basic.'
I have looked around on the internet and have seen similar issues but not to one I am trying to do.My VB .NET function, which I wish to call in Excel is declared as follows:
Public Function CallArray(ByVal serviceName As String, _ ByVal effectiveDate As String, ByVal serviceParams() As System.Object, ByRef ArrayRes() As System.Object) As System.Boolean
VBA is complaining about the System.Objects my question is how the heck are you supposed to pass and return arrays from .NET to VBA. Also the data that will be in the ArrayRes() is mixed type, its not just strings etc, its an array of arrays that can contain strings, integers doubles etc.I chose VB .NET because I assumed it would be possible to map to VBA easier.if System. Object and Arrays in VB .NET is not the way, ie maybe theres another way via collections or lists, then Im open to that. I just need to get this data into VBA.Also I could move over to C# if needs be.
I need to migrate from Excel 2003 VBA to Excel 2007 VBA. When Microsoft introduced Excel 2007 it removed many objects from the previous versions and added some new objects. Also it hid some properties of particular objects. These hidden properties can be viewed by going to the object browser, right clicking any object and selecting "Show Hidden Members". My problem is I need to access these hidden properties. Is there any way I can access these properties. I can successfully migrate from Excel 2003 VBa to Excel 2007 VBA with the same functionality?
I have a website. In it, I have a button which will export some data from a SQL database to Excel. I want to open an excel workbook on the client and paste the data there. This all works fine locally, but when i publish it, I get this error:ActiveX component can't create object.[code]Have searched the net, and it seems the problem is permission related. Can anyone explain to me how to configure my server so that I can use clientside Excel?
I am using vb .net and office 2007 with Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application loaded in a vb net project.I have this excel file filled with buttons and drop down objects... i need to change the value of the drop downs and then click a button, all this inside vb .net.I have my workbooks, sheets and ranges all setup, i just need a headstart to, for example, change a drop down value, to say... item number 2.
i am using visual studio 2005 on win 7 with office 2007. i have developed win application. i am using microsoft activex spreadsheet component in my program. so it automatically creates reference to AxInterop.OWC11.dll When i run program in debug mode (open program and click RUN in toolbar it works) but if i run directly .exe (go to bin elease doubleclick .exe) it give error at loading point of that component. It says "Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory has been corrupted." An unhandled exception occurrs.
I want to encapsulate the use of Excel Interop to make it easier to use somehow in a reuseable library. So far, I have written some tests that work good altogether, except that between each test, I force Excel to quite so that it does have handle on the test file no more in order to be able to delete.Once I quit the application instance between after each of my tests, Excel seems to be no longer responding, causing Windows to display "Excel has stopped working and is looking for a solution"
message. This message lasts a few seconds, meanwhile Excel is closing, causing the hang on the file to occur and my tests to throw an exception like "Cannot access file because it is being used by another process..."
i'm trying to save an excel file after I open my excel application. This is what I have so far:
'Opens the report xlPeakDemand.Visible = True xlPeakDemandWorkbook.SaveAs("C:Documents and
[Code].....
When saving as an xls it works fine but when saving as a htm its a disaster Just a bunch or symbols and stuff. BUT if I go into my xls document and Save As webpage from there, it works fine!
how I can use excel 2003 and excel 2007 on my application. I add a reference to Excel 12.0 Object but this one is not compatible with Excel 2007 and i think if i add Excel 11 Object it will not run on excel 2007.
Is there any solution that I can use so that my project can be used with either excel 2003 and 2007?
I have an application which is grouped in a MainApplication and serveral Modules (DLL's) The Main Application is basicly a Form with a NavigationBar on the Left Side (like in Outlook 2003) and an MDI-Parent. There is also a Simple Login Routine on this Form. I store the UserName after Loggingn to a Property. The DLL's holds functionallity and Forms for various Sections for example there is a Employee.dll which holds functions and a form to show all Employees.
On Loading of the Main Application I loop trough all dll's in a "Module"-Folder and extract NavigationItems from them which I add to the MainForms NavigationPanel. I don't have a reference to the Modules because I want to make it as flexible as possible so that it is possible to delete a Dll form the Module directory in order to remove the functionality from the MainApplication. The Modules could work also without the MainApplication if they are Complied as an exe insted of DLL of course. This works fine so far.
point me to the best way to store persistant objects ( of my own class) in a vb application? I am putting together a simple family recipe application and have created a food item class. I would like to store the instances ( food items) indefinately so that they are there each time I start the program complete with all properties and meethods
I sometimes come across patterns or common practices that I do not agree with. I have a clear opinon of what is considered "good design", which is mainly based on my understanding of abstraction and creating layers.IMO, the core of an application is it's object model. It's a hierarchic model where one object references other objects or lists of them. That's a memory-internal model. For example, a house object references a list of rooms referencing lists of furniture. An object is identified by it's reference. There are no IDs or PKs in that layer.Saving/Loading data is an additional feature. Sure, no application will do without, but it's based on top of the core of the application. I could write an application that works very well without loading/saving, and for version 2 I will think about whether to save data to a database or an XML file. Merely this fact proves that a database layer is not the lowest. I've never agreed with that three-tier model - even if you call me unteachable.
In addition to all application objects, there are Datasets - and that's my problem now. They can be considered as a copy of what is already present in the application's object model. Its from a different, table-oriented view. As both structures exist in parallel, there's the need to synchronize the DataSet with the (rest of the) application's objects. That's the task that I am always struggling with, and I ask how you handle it. I know this is a major design question but, fortunatelly, I could quite get around this problem so far.The only solution I can imagine is maintaining additional relation lists. For example, whenever the property of a room object changes, that change must be reflected in the associated DataRow in the DataSet. For this purpose, I need a look-up table that tells me the PK of the given room in the database. It requires a lot of additional efforst to do all the synchronization.Again, the house or room object itself does not have a PK and it won't get one because on that layer, it doesn't even know that a database exists.
I have a windows forms application built in VS2005 and migrated to VS2008 that I "inherited" that occasionally will not show some of the objects (i.e. a button or something) when a user runs it. This is sporadic and does not seem to have any notable pattern. Are there any specific types of things I should be looking for that might cause such behavior? I tried looking at available memory and hard disk space issues and that did not seem to have any bearing on the problem.
I have an application that use in it the 'Interop.ShockwaveFlashObjects' assembly when bebugging everything works smoothly but when i publish the application all the Shockwave objects are not shown ????...what am i missing
I have written a program to add a timestamp to a data sheet which had the time in seconds at which a sample was taken. The sampling was done every 0.1 seconds i.e 10 Hz sampling rate. The code I wrote enables one to select a file to which the time stamp must be added, and then runs a macro from excel when you click "Add Timestamp".
I am having a problem destroying the objects though so that they don't end up hanging around in the background. If Excel is already open I do not want it to close at the end of the program, I want Excel to simply return to its state before the application was run in order to prevent losing data on another unrelated excel task which may be open. The macro which is called closes any sheets which it opens. The other problem I am having is that if the program encounters an error there are a number of Excel objects floating in the background. My code is posted below.
Imports Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel Imports System.Runtime.InteropServices Public Class Form1
