.net - Setting ReadOnly Property In PropertyGrid Sets All Properties Readonly?

Jun 12, 2012

I am using a PropertyGrid control to edit my class properties and I am trying to set certain properties read-only depending on other property settings. This is the code of my class:

Imports System.ComponentModel
Imports System.Reflection
Public Class PropertyClass[code].....

This is the code I am using to edit the values:

Dim c As New PropertyClass
PropertyGrid1.SelectedObject = c

The problem is that when I set SomeProperty to True, nothing happens and when I then set it to False again it sets all properties Read-Only.

.net - If An Interface Defines A ReadOnly Property, How Can An Implementer Provide The Setter To This Property

Jun 10, 2011

Is there a way for implementers of an interface where a ReadOnly property is defined to make it a complete Read/Write Property ?

Imagine I define an interface to provide a ReadOnly Property (i.e., just a getter for a given value) :

Interface SomeInterface
'the interface only say that implementers must provide a value for reading
ReadOnly Property PublicProperty As String
End Interface

This means implementers must commit to providing a value. But I would like a given implementer to also allow setting that value. In my head, this would mean providing the Property's setter as part of the implementation, doing something like this :

Public Property PublicProperty As String Implements SomeInterface.PublicProperty
Get
Return _myProperty

[code]....

INotifyPropertyChanged.PropertyChanged Implemented And Not Implemented; Visual Studio Build Error

Jan 2, 2012

I'm seeing a strange build bug a lot. Sometimes after typing some code we receive the following build error.

Class 'clsX' must implement 'Event PropertyChanged(sender As Object, e As PropertyChangedEventArgs)' for interface System.ComponentModel.INotifyPropertyChanged'.

And

'PropertyChanged' cannot implement 'PropertyChanged' because there is no matching event on interface 'System.ComponentModel.INotifyPropertyChanged'.

Those error should never go together! Usually we can just ignore the exception and build the solution but often enough this bug stops our build. (this happens a lot using Edit and Continue which is annoying)Removing the PropertyChanged event and retyping the same code! sometimes fixes this. We're using a code generator that causes this error to surface but just editing some files manually triggers this exception too. This error occur's on multiple machines using various setups.

.net - Why Can't Access The Backing Field On An Auto Implemented Property From Within An Inherited Class

Dec 20, 2011

I have a class that exposes an auto implemented property Enabled

[Code]...

But If I had not use an auto implemented property and declared my own backing-field as follows this is accessible from the subclass: Private _Enabled as Boolean ---- EDIT ----
The abve line is incorrect - this is not possible, it was in fact Protected in the original code which allowed access from the sub class See @JonSkeet answer ---- EDIT Of course I can just access Enabled from the sub class to work around this but can someone explain why this is the behaviour?

How To Hide Listviewitem In Listview Control

May 21, 2009

I have a listview control on a form. This listview control is populated with at times thousands of listviewitems.Part of my process, is running through custom made filters, to hide unwanted items (before they're even inserted into the listview). So as I hinted earlier, the way I hide items that I don't want is by not inserting them at all. I'd like to make a shortcut available, that would allow me to show / hide the hidden items by simply pressing the shortcut.

My problem is that if I do this, I have to 'refresh' the listview items everytime as I do now ( by removing all and re-inserting the ones I want ).Is there no faster / better way than by removing / re-inserting the items ( which takes roughly 2-3 seconds ); which is a noticeable-enough delay? for a 'visible' property on the listviewitem that I could set to true / false, but that property doesn't appear to exist. As it stands, I have to resort to removing / re-inserting the new 'view' every time.

C# - ReadOnly Property Or Property With Private Set Should Use?

Jan 26, 2012

I Like .NET automatic properties, in C# it so easy to declare readonly property by declaring its set section as private like this:

public String Name{ get; private set; }

But when I tried that in VB.NET I was shocked that it is not supported as mentioned here and I have to write it as follows:

Private _Name as String
Public ReadOnly Property Name as String
Get

[Code].....

What the difference between these declarations in VB.NET, which one is preferred and Why?

Which one will affect compile time, runtime or performance at all?

Name A Property 'ReadOnly'?

Oct 20, 2009

I have a user control and I'd like to give it a custom property named ReadOnly. I get "Keyword is not valid as an identifier", as it thinks I'm writing a ReadOnly Property named something.

so really I can call mine 'Read_Only', but I'm just curious if there's an easy way to get the other name in there, since then my control will be similar to the visual controls that have ReadOnly in the designer.

Optional Readonly Property In Interface

Aug 25, 2009

I am trying to develop a simple interface for allowing quick lists to be generated from classes. Basically, the interface needs to return an ID and a Name. However, some classes have a calculated name property which is read only, others just use a read/write name property. Basically, all I care is that it has a getter, it does not matter if the property has a setter. How can I write this interface to handle either or without throwing compile errors?
