my system crashed and I lost all of my VB.net projects. IT says the hard drive is shot and they cannot recover the files. However, I have all of the project's debug files on a network drive that was not impacted because the info is stored on a shared sever. What I have are the following files: (These were pulled from the DEBUG folder)
Executible
Program Debug Database
XML Document
[code].....
Can I recover the project using just these files?
When i run the debugging tool for visual basic my computer crashes (Blue screen). it's rather constant with the VB forms, even ones without code at all... Any help on the matter? All the forms were originally built on this computer but don't work any more, they however work fine on other computers so it has to be my computer.
View 7 RepliesUsing this code, before I added the funky "abort" button code - stopping it using the Stop Debugging button in the IDE blue screened my computer every time, PROCESS_HAS_LOCKED_PAGES - Anyone care to try it ? Win7 Ultimate , VS2010 SP1. This machine has never blue screened since it was built. Code is by no means exotic in any way.

I was attempting to clean up my serial port example that is in the code bank. I had decided to use a modem, thinking that a lot of computers still had them. By using the loopback feature of the modem I am able to simulate / emulate various features of the serial port. All was going well, and then I got a Blue Screen with this error after running for 10 minutes or so:DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUALSTOP 0x000000d1 etc.I then went back to using my GPS receiver, which sends messages constantly to a serial port. This test ran for several hours(4). It received messages correctly during the entire test.I then created a new, not as complex, version and it also receives the Blue Screen. I have made sure that the modem drivers are up to date, searched for the error, etc. My gut is telling me that it is the modem driver. I have attached the project. This is the scaled back version, but it uses the same functionality.
View 7 RepliesI am developing a simple application in VB10 that uses ADO.net to store data in an Access database, and gets input via a serial port RS232. It works well, but is not fully debugged. Unfortunately, a problem has recently started where as soon as i close the program I get a blue screen. Makes it hard to debug. The solution does not even have to have run; it just has to have been loaded and then exit VB10. The blue screen aslo happens to most of the other example solutions that I have downloaded.
Questions:
1)How do you capture the STOP error codes (probably stupid question)?
2) Is there an easy solution that rings a bell? My IT support is trying but not getting anywhere. Have to believe it is hardware related, but the hard drive checks out with testing.
I was trying to install a program and it install fine but when i went to run i clicked the icon and i got a blue screen and it rebooted, i found out from the program site that its caused by framework.net, i need to update mine, or fix it i check my add or remove programs and i had 2.0 i went to get 3.0 and it told me that cound not cause of prev version was not upto date.
View 1 RepliesI have a vb application its a point of sale system and its running on 4 computers at 2 different locations ever since i upgraded those 2 sites from the old vb6 to our new vb.net software they keep getting blue screen randomly. View 6 RepliesBTW this issue occurs in any MS office program when the VB.Net (or even VBA) is processing information.Example: In Excel, a worksheet is displayed on the screen. I start either, a VB.Net or VBA procedure and within 30 seconds the Excel worksheet (previously displayed) blanks out. In both VB.Net and VBA,ScreenUpdating = False. My expectation is that the previously displayed screen would stay static as if I left my desk to get a cup of coffee; came back and the same ole Excel worksheet was still there?Of course, setting VBA Screen Updating = False accomplishes two goals: 1) speeds up processing and 2) saves the user from seeing unnecessary "garbage-processing" steps. Why does VBA or VB.Net ScreenUpdating = False not freeze the screen at the time of its invoking?

.NET masters!Im working on a VB.net file management program that copies 100,000s of small images (20 - 300 KB).At least it tries to. When doing large multi-hour operations I start getting exceptions with the"Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service." error message. In a few cases the computer has then crashed. After a lot of debugging, finally with livekd kernal dump I can see that the System PTEs in the Kernel Mem are getting very low.I can monitor the PTE's in realtime with Performance Monitor with the Memory/Free System Page Table Entries. After an hour or so the PTE's start dropping in what appears to be linear fashion as the program keeps copying.Im sure it is the copy function causing the problem, as when i let the code run but with the copy routine commented out, the free PTEs stopped going down.Behaviour is identical with both of these calls. System. IO. File.Copy(strFileSource, strFileDest, bOverwriteFile) My.Computer. FileSystem. CopyFile (strFileSource, strFileDest, bOverwriteFile)If I stop & close the program, PTEs do not seem to rebound at all. If I start the program again, the PTEs again start going down.SO: What is up with File.Copy? Why is it using and not releasing all these PTE's? Seems this memory should be free after the copy. How can I change my code to avoid running up the PTEs?The test computer is Windows XP sp2 with 500MB ram. (also been testing with 1.5 G ram)Ive found some helpful documents on PTEs, which discuss system configuration via registry settings. But this is not really an option for me as this is a commercial product that others will be using on their own computers.Detection, Analysis, and Corrective Actions for Low Page Table [code]

I have a VB.NET 2008 program that crashes about once a month at a customer location. My log file does not include any clues of the crash, the program just dies with the infamous SEND / DONT SEND window. So I need to setup my customers so that in the event of a program crash, a DUMP file is created automatically, without any user intervention. Everything I read on internet indicates that the drwtsn32.exe program does that.
View 3 RepliesAll I would like to do is remove one character from the line of the text file that I am reading, which is the first character and also prevent the program from crashing if no text file is present. Here is the code. Can anyone notice where I am going wrong? I thought the "if" statement would cover the crash but it didn't. Clueless, but sort of have an idea on the character removal.

View 4 RepliesExceptions can have different degrees of impact on a program. For example a program should probably abort if OutOfMemoryException is raised, but it is possible to safely and appropriately handle System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException without putting the program in an unknown state.
I do understand that any exception has the potential to put the program in an unstable state if it is not properly handled. Are there exceptions that should never be handled beyond simply logging and throwing up the stack?
