File.Copy Many Times Results In System Crash

.NET masters!Im working on a VB.net file management program that copies 100,000s of small images (20 - 300 KB).At least it tries to. When doing large multi-hour operations I start getting exceptions with the"Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service." error message.In a few cases the computer has then crashed.After a lot of debugging, finally with livekd kernal dump I can see that the System PTEs in the Kernel Mem are getting very low.I can monitor the PTE's in realtime with Performance Monitor with the Memory/Free System Page Table Entries.After an hour or so the PTE's start dropping in what appears to be linear fashion as the program keeps copying.Im sure it is the copy function causing the problem, as when i let the code run but with the copy routine commented out, the free PTEs stopped going down.Behaviour is identical with both of these calls. System. IO. File.Copy(strFileSource, strFileDest, bOverwriteFile) My.Computer. FileSystem. CopyFile (strFileSource, strFileDest, bOverwriteFile)If I stop & close the program, PTEs do not seem to rebound at all. If I start the program again, the PTEs again start going down.SO: What is up with File.Copy? Why is it using and not releasing all these PTE's? Seems this memory should be free after the copy.How can I change my code to avoid running up the PTEs?The test computer is Windows XP sp2 with 500MB ram. (also been testing with 1.5 G ram)Ive found some helpful documents on PTEs, which discuss system configuration via registry settings. I'm currently trying to send the SB_GETTEXT message to a status bar, but it always crash and I don't why (the SB_GETTEXTLENGTH works fine, but not the SB_GETTEXT). Below is a VBA code I tried to use in Excel to read the status bar text of Worpad. The first code using WM_GETTEXT works well, but the second code that uses SB_GETTEXT always crashes.

I have a weird behavior when trying to copy a file with System.IO.File.Copy. The file never gets copied. More than that, the call doesn't generate an exeption!

Recently one of my clients started experiencing a very unusual problem. When they try to print from the program I developed their whole system crashes without any error messages or warnings. This problem started recently (they have been using this software for over 2 years).
I used VB.NET 2003 (.NET Framework 1.1) to develop the software, my clients have Windows XP Pro. At first I thought that the problem was in their printer driver. I contacted their IT department and after several weeks of testing they conlcluded that the problem is somehow related to my software (this issue never happened when the client is printing from any other program). To print, I have created a group of classes that create and print reports. The main class subclasses PrintDocument then I use PrintPreviewDialog to display the preview and give the client the option to setup page settings, etc. The code runs without problem on my development machines and up until recently without problem on the client system as well. I did intall an upgrade recently that was related to printing, but all I did was to modify the print output, the upgrade did not modified any of the printing functions.
I tried to find information on the Internet, but coudln't find anything. I wonder if migrating the solution to .NET Framework 2.0 will solve this problem?

my system crashed and I lost all of my VB.net projects. IT says the hard drive is shot and they cannot recover the files. However, I have all of the project's debug files on a network drive that was not impacted because the info is stored on a shared sever.What I have are the following files: (These were pulled from the DEBUG folder)

the program I am working on works fine on my machine and a coworkers. Today I installed it using click once on another coworkers machine. It works fine on my computer and the first coworkers, but immediately crashes on two other machines. part of the error signature that it wants to send to microsoft is P9: system.invalidoperationexception
I put a msgbox right at the beginning of the initializecomponent() call and it isnt even making it that far.
Users have most up to date .net on their computers.I am stuck big time and quite worried as my company is planning on everyone using this program.

i got to do a program in VB.NET that copies a file from a pc to a usb device. I use the method System.IO.File.Copy(FileToCopy, NewCopy) in which i have to specify the destination path. The problem is that when i change pc the destination can change: for example in my pc i read my USB pendrive o G: and on my friend pc i read the usb pendrive on E:. How can i solve that? May i specify a general path to my USB giving it a name or anything similar?

I'm trying to move a lot of pictures from FOLDER A to another, FOLDER B. However, some of the pictures already exists in the FOLDER B. This stops my program saying it cannot copy the pictures over because they already exist. I'm trying to make it so any pictures from FOLDER A will copy over the pictures in FOLDER B if they are similar in name. Like... Folder A's pictures will just replaced the Folder B pictures if they have the same name. I was told to use the System.IO.File.Copy tool. Here is my code.

I have a little vb.net script that will copy a file, set its attributes to Normal, update the file time, and then set back the attributes to match those of the source file.

A while ago I wrote a quick and very very simple program to test myself on about 10 questions I needed to remember the answer to. I made a form with a label, text box and button. the label contained the question and the answer was entered into the textbox and the button was pressed to check the answer. the code i used was very similar to this:[code] Because I only had 10 questions it was fine to copy and paste the code a few times and rename the questions but now i am going to use this again but for a lot more questions (in the end there will be a couple of hundred) so i was wondering if any one knew a better way to do this? I was thinking maybe an array like 1 to hold the questions and 1 to hold the answers but i haven't worked much with arrays so I'm not sure how difficult this would be ?

I recently bought a barcode scanner for God knows what reason, just to play around and now it seems that its easy to sort out everything at house with it (e.g. Disc Collection). So I decided that I need a special program for it to get sorted with the collection. I am new to Visual Basic, but used to do programs with Java 6 years ago, but it doesn't seem to be any similar to each other. Basically I have a Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 and here is what I want to do:I have Form1 which contains of a textbox and a button (which will be Enter further), a textbox for total amount spent (which has to be calculated from Form2 and a nice background. I also have a Form2 in the same project, which contains 3 textboxes (Title, Price and the barcode numbers)So my problems are: As I said there are just 3 textboxes in Form2. Is it possible to copy Form2 three times on Form1 with different variables in text boxes? For example Form2 1st copy will have one Title in textbox, Form2 2nd copy will have another Title in textbox and etc. The Titles are in excel (.xls) file.That is a problem further, but my problem for now is how to make barcode scanner working. The barcode scanner basically reads barcode and inputs numbers in a textfield and automatically presses enter.As I am new, I do not know how to make this work. When I launch the program the textbox has to be selected rightaway, so that I do not have to use mouse. As it is selected I read the barcode and the numbers are in the textbox right away and Enter key is pressed (but I did not assign OK button with a Enter key and I cannot output anything now). So how do I assign the button with Enter key and the textbox? Now as the button is pressed (OR ENTER KEY is pressed) The text in the textbox has to be selected again (so that I can input a new barcode) and Form2 has to be called on a certain place of the screen (e.g. 200x100px is the starting location).
Now when the Form2 was called it read the data from Excel spreadsheet and now the textfield in Form1 is ready to input new barcode. As new barcode was read the same situation is happening, but now the Form2 is copied into a new place with new parameters (e.g. 300x100px is the starting point).Same for the third time, but on 400x100px.For the fourth time the Form2 is not copied again. However the parameters of the third copy are getting the new data. Parameters of the third one are going to the second copy, second copy to the first one and the first one is stored in a text file or somewhere else to use further. (I wanted to use up and down buttons to search for what I have scanned)

This is kind of a two part question. I'm trying to make a very simple automated program that will run two stored procedures (one that updates, one that displays the new results) and then copies the results to the clipboard and pastes it in a new e-mail. I already have the e-mail generating and grabbing whatever is on the clipboard, but I need help with the store procedures.
Every guide I look at on Google seems to show a slightly different way of working with SQL, but I threw this together and need to know if it's working. I don't get any errors and the program "hangs" about as long as it takes for the actualy SP to run, but how do I get the "rows affect" output into a textbox or something?[code]...

I have created a database that allows me to sort through the hundreds of pictures I have based on certain criteria. The file path for each picture is stored in a text box in the database (file path). I am currently using this code to copy the files to a new folder:
My.Computer.FileSystem.CopyFile(file_pathtextbox.text, �E:photo_gallary�)
However, this only copies the first file in my query not all the others. I am at a loss as how to loop through them all so they all end up in their new destination.

I'm working on a form that has a few data grid views that are populated from LINQ queries, no problem there it works as it should however that sorting does not work. After doing some reading its because LINQ results do not support sorting.As I have the LINQ results already is there a way of copying the results into a dataset or datatable then binding the data grid view to that so sorting will work?

Imagine that I have a System.Windows.Forms.Timer with 1000 ms interval. If I call Timer.Start() method and after 500 ms I call again Timer.Start() what happens? The second Start call will reset the interval or not? Are there any side effects?

I have a VB.NET 2008 program that crashes about once a month at a customer location. My log file does not include any clues of the crash, the program just dies with the infamous SEND / DONT SEND window.So I need to setup my customers so that in the event of a program crash, a DUMP file is created automatically, without any user intervention. Everything I read on internet indicates that the drwtsn32.exe program does that.

I have a program that uses IO.File.Copy to copy files from point a to point b. Its slow, which is fine because there rather large files. I was wondering if there is way to get an estimate time to copy a particular file(s).
Example: File a will take 1 hour to copy, File B will take 30 minutes to copy. Estimate Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes.

All I would like to do is remove one character from the line of the text file that I am reading, which is the first character and also prevent the program from crashing if no text file is present.Here is the code. Can anyone notice where I am going wrong? I thought the "if" statement would cover the crash but it didn't. Clueless, but sort of have an idea on the character removal.

This is the Delphi code I'm trying to convert to .net:

But I get error's when the index is out of range. in Delphi it works fine.

I'm trying to copy a file, using System.Copy. The destination, if it exists, should be overwritten. I had been using a single line of code for about a month, without problems : IO.File.Copy(SourceFile, DestFile, True)But problems started about a week ago, when I started more advanced checks. Partially locked files fail to copy, and the destination gets deleted.
