Recursive Copying Of Directories And Contents
Sep 19, 2011
I am currently creating a little application which will essentially backup my work I do at college. It works by me saving all my work onto a flash drive. When I run the application it will copy all the contents of the flash drive and copying to my college directory and when I'm at home copy to my Dropbox folder. This essentially gives me 4+ areas where my work is saved. Unfortunately, the college computers due to network restrictions and other problems, the use Dropbox on the college machines (I obviously can still access the website).

I have a series of text files in multipule diffrent sub directories. I found the following functions on the Internet:
CODE:
The functions will make a direcotry tree in my debug window, that looks something like this:
CODE:
What I want it to do is to have it return an array of relitive file paths, from the starting direcotry I give the function. Then I will use a loop to cycle though each file in the array to make certain changes.
Something like this:
CODE:
Any ideas on how to acomplish this?

So this is what I have right now, I can get it to copy But I am wanting to rename the files with the date inside of the new Directory name, It is going to be used for making a copy of outlook.pst files. But as you can see I can't put in concrete names of where to save it because I want the user to be able to choose where to save it as it will be saved on a server with folders for each individual user.
Public Class Form1
Dim Folder1
Dim Folder2
Dim FolderBrowserDialog1 As New FolderBrowserDialog
Dim FolderBrowserDialog2 As New FolderBrowserDialog
Dim currentDate As Date = Date. Now

Recently I have browsed the web for ways to display a list of files and folders in a list box. I have successfully been able to display files in drive C and get a nurerical value telling how many files were found. However my efforts have been hampered by three distinct problems. I have some experience using batch files and when using them you can state things like "%WINDER%" to go directly to windows folder. I am wondering if there's anything like that used for navigating. And if so could an example be made of it just for clarity?
My second problem is I cant seem to be able to display files and folders. I have been limited to one or the other. That and I cant figure out how to navigate into them to display there contents. The next problem I have is simply having a user interface so you could type a file path or file extention and have the program navigate to it. Is it is possible to click a file path in a list box and chose to delete it. My second last Q how do I display all files and folders including hidden files? And How can I count all files and folders with there contents to dissplay in a listbox.

I am having a hell of a time figuring out where I am going wrong in copying the contents of arrays to listboxes.
I am using textboxes to input team numbers and team names.
The code for that is as follows (used in a button after the data has been entered in the text boxes:
Teamname, Teamnumber and numteams have been previously declared as public variables (string, integer and integer) in a module as they are used throughout the project. Numteams has had a value ascribed to it in a previous form
ReDim Teamname(Numteams)
ReDim Teamnumber(Numteams)
Dim thisteam As Integer
[Code]....
I have had to put in the "" for the Teamname variable as otherwise I was getting an error saying "Value cannot be null". I am also not sure what is causing that.
When I do that, I get 0 in the listboxes for all the teamnumbers except the last one which is right and blank strings for the team names except for the last one which is also right.

I am using FileCopy and My.Computer.FileSystem.CopyDirectory to copy certain files and folders. The problem I have is that when this operation is being carried out for a large directory (say 1gb or so, probably less) - the program goes into a Not Responding mode until the copying is complete. If you let it sit there, it will eventually resume itself once the copy is complete; however, my end user is going to think the program crashed.

If I increase the capacity of a given list, or add elements until count>capacity, does this mean the program is actually copying the entire list's contents to a new space in memory (similar to redim preserve with arrays)? If so, than I have really been hurting the performance of my lists, as before I was inserting and adding without a second thought. This seems a strong restriction on the dynamic abilities of lists.

The above code reads all the files & directories in a selected path. It ignores any hidden folders, like it suppose to. Except it doesn't ignore folders inside of the hidden folders that it finds & I need it to.I can't quite wrap my head around how to make it ignore all folders & files inside of a hidden folder that it find.

Basically I'm going to try and develop a software that merges PDFs automatically using the PDFSharp API.What I want in the program is to basically that: Have the program to give and Input and Output directoryMerge all the documents in the directory or sub-directoryRename the merged PDF file according the the name of the directory/sub-directoryIf the folder has PDF files and a Sub-Directory I want to merge the PDF files in the folder and rename them as per the main folder, and rename the files in the sub-folder according to its name (i.e. seperate|)
It's the first time I'm using an API.The problem I have is how to use the directories and sub-directories as I need them.

I have a class named State that stores a lot of data regarding the current state (status) of the program (like the user's name, has he saved his work, last color he was using, etc). Before I allow the user to reset the state of the program, I want to backup the entire contents of State in case the user changes his mind and wants to undo things back to the way they were. I'm not looking for a complete undo algorithm, just a way to copy the contents of one object to another object (of the same class).

I am trying to create a code where I placed sets of numbers in an array.I'll use a masktextbox to have the user enter the numbers to match what's in the array. If the user enters the number, ex: social, and the data is correct (matches the numbers in the array), something happens if the number entered in the masktextbox does not match any of the number sets in an array then another thing happens. The masktextbox so far only validates format and gets number only, however, I want the number entered to match whats in the array.

I'm trying to recolor all components in a form by using a recursive method. However, it always recolors the form and then stops. How can I make it go past this step? Here is the code I've been experimenting with:

Debug.WriteLine(comp)
If TypeOf comp Is System.Windows.Forms.ContainerControl Then

I am hopeing someone can help me here with a recursive function I have that is not returning either true or false as I would have espected it to. The function loops through a Active Directory group for its members and then calls itself if it encounters any groups within the membership in order to gets its members as well. I am trying to return either true or false based on if any errors were encountered but not haveing any luck at all. It appears to just hang and never return back to the primary calling sub that starts the recursive function. Below is my code I am using:

I'm a beginner to VB.NET. I'd like to make a simple backup program, and therefore I need a way to get a list of all files in a folder, and all subfolders. I've been searching the forum for "recursive file list", but it's too difficult for me to understand. Any simple way to get all files in a folder and all subfolders?

Strangely when I set It back to X86 the same recursive function works...

I've asked a very similar question before, but this time is not about VB syntax, but rather the best approach. I'm making a method that, when passed a component, will recolor it and all components contained within it. Below is the code I have so far, but it is not recoloring all components, instead only a mere few. My main problem is buttons staying in their "3D" styles and not becoming "flat".
[Code]...
The component passed is comp, and the getColor method looks into a database and returns a color corresponding to the part parameter passed to the method. This works for all low-level components and all simple components like labels. As you can see, this is not my preferred outcome. Does anyone know how to recolor spinners, buttons, and menu bars? Again, I need the button to end up being flat.
