Set A Property Of A User Control From Repeater Databound Data?

Mar 28, 2011

I have a user control inside of a repeater that is being bound by a sqldatasource. I get the following error: Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control. EDIT: NEVERMIND Egg on my face. I was getting this databind error because I was binding it somewhere else in an effort to troubleshoot my real problem from last friday but I forgot about it.

WHAT MY REAL PROBLEM IS: The usercontrol is getting bound before the properties get set so it appears as if they are never set. When stepping through I see that they get on the property is hit before the set on the property is hit. For example if I put <%# EVal("Address_ID") %> before the user control I will see the ID displayed but then the user control will display an emptydatatemplate because it is being passed the ID of 0.

<asp:SqlDataSource ID="sqlFacilityAddresses" runat="server" DataSourceMode="DataSet" SelectCommandType="StoredProcedure" SelectCommand="SP_Facility_GetAddresses" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:Trustaff_ESig2 %>">

VS 2010 Getting Data From DataBound GridView?

Jan 30, 2012

I have a DataTable that is bound to my GridView via a method a created. The function returns a new DataTable each time, so I don't have direct access to the data that is in the DataTable.

I'm trying to update my database with the data from the DGV, but anytime I try accessing the columns or rows, I get an error saying the column/row index isn't correct.

I'm using the RowValidatedEvent and if use the following code in a dummy project while manually adding the columns, the result is predictable.

VB.NET

MessageBox.Show(dgv.Item(e.ColumnIndex, e.RowIndex).Value.ToString)

But when I do the same with my bound DGV, I get the exception mentioned above. This leads me to believe that I need to access the DataTable directly, but I can't because I get it from a method.

So is there a way to access the grid view's bound data? I've been playing around with various properties, but have come up short so far.

Asp.net - Horizontal Table Design Using Gridview, Repeater Etc?

Jul 11, 2011

Im looking to build a nice form which a supplier can quote prices on. SO the form will have Labels down the left hand side and then their would be a Column per requested Product/Quantity from the buyer. So it would have n number of columns.Because of the way html tables are coded you need to build a row at a time. (I want to keep this as one table so its neat HTML)Before I go ahead and create Repeater for each row of information the user needs to enter. Is their a way to be able to create a sorta grid view but instead of each records you pass it going to create a new row. It would create a new column and you could define the first column as the header column?

My table sort design is (txtb stands for textbox and lbl stands for label which is updated as values are entered)

Quantity 500 1000 2000
Delivery Cost txtb txtb txtb
Pricing txtb txtb txtb

I have verified this by previewing the data in the dataset.My problem is getting the combobox to reflect the changes to datatable to which it is bound.[code]

Dropdown List To Attach To Repeater That Will Filter Gridview?

Oct 28, 2011

This post is similar to one I have posted before about a dropdown filtering results in a gridview. Well now I need this dropdown to attach itself to a repeater that will filter results into a gridview. I have tried rptLetters.DataBind() in the code behind of the dropdown list, but that doesn't seem to be changing any of the letters at the top of the page when I click on different items in the dropdown list.The screenshot doesn't show enough of the products, but in this case it skips from G to L, and in the repeater the letters between G and L are still shown. I need to be able to get that repeater to recognize the letters that start each of the products associated with the company chosen.

<asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="body" Runat="Server"><br /><br />
<asp:linkbutton id="btnAll" runat="server" text="ALL" onclick="btnAll_Click" />
<asp:repeater id="rptLetters" runat="server" datasourceid="dsLetters">

Forms :: Add Item To Databound ComboBox?

Sep 7, 2009

I started a Windows app using all code for database connection and validation. However, it was always losing the formatting that I had set at run time. So I thought I would use the long tedious process of using all of the studios objects with minimum code.

I am now at the position where I am mostly happy with the layout and how this operates. However, I want to be able to add a non-databound value to a databound combo box. I have set the properties for the combo box in the combo box tasks.

Also, I want to add the ability for the user to update that table that is bound to this control, when a value is not in the list. I know that there is a NotInList event in Access, but I can not find it in VB.Net. I did get so far with updating from the combo box using the Leave event. However, when the database was updated the control could not find the ID in the Clients table to save to the Quotes table.

WPF - Making Databound ListViewColumns Resize When Adding Item

Dec 4, 2011

I'm making an WPF-application that has a databound ListView. When loading the application, the width of the ListViewColumns will auto-resize, but when adding or changing an item it doesn't auto-resize. I've tried refreshing the listview, setting the width of the column to auto, -1 or -2 in both xaml and VB-code and I've tries changing the itemssource to nothing before refilling it with items.

This is the xaml code:
<ListView x:Name="lsvPersons" Margin="5,5,5,35" ItemsSource="{Binding Persons}">
<ListView.View><GridView>
<GridViewColumn DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding Name}" Header="Name"/>
<GridViewColumn DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding Gender}" Header="Gender"/>
<GridViewColumn DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding Age}" Header="Age"/>
[Code] .....

After pressing the button, a window will open to add a person. After the window is closed, the item is added to the listview with following code, which refreshes the items in the listview:
lsvPersons.ItemsSource = Person.getPersons()
So, what do I need to do to auto-resize the columns of the listview when an item is added or edited?

VS 2008 - Change Individual Item Color In DataBound ComboBox

May 8, 2009

I have a combobox called cbMaterialType on a windows form that's bound to a table in SQL - everything loads great and the combobox displays 'Material' items as it should, in that table I have two fields - Material (as mentioned above) which is a char(25) and InStock which is an nchar(1). If the InStock field contains a '1', I'd like the individual material to be green in the combobox, if '0', then red. I have the simple code in the drawitem event of the combobox as follows, but can't seem to get any results at all:

Private Sub cbMaterialType_DrawItem(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DrawItemEventArgs) Handles cbMaterialType.DrawItem
If MaterialTableAdapter1.GetData.Item(cbMaterialType.SelectedIndex).InStock = 1 Then
cbMaterialType.ForeColor = System.Drawing.Color.Green
Else
cbMaterialType.ForeColor = System.Drawing.Color.Red
End If
End Sub

I've never worked with any form of color in comboboxes before and this is my first attempt at the drawitem event.

Does anybody know how to pass a reference to the current item in a generic list, when processing that list? Color Item Text In GridView For Non-selected Lines Only?

Oct 8, 2009

I have a GridView with image buttons for selecting rows. I am using an OnRowDataBound event to color selected rows Blue:

e.Row.ForeColor = System.Drawing.Color.Blue

Now that works great as long as I don't set a color either in the CSS stylesheet or on the grid Items themselves. If I do that, then all rows are colored that color and I don't get my Blue selected rows color for selected rows. I would like to color the text in the grid something other than black.
