RegEx - How To Retrieve String Variable From External Source And Parse It

Dec 7, 2011

Part of my project is to retrieve a string variable from an external source (google docs) and parse it. This string represents width and height. I have no problem retrieving, I just need to parse it in to two strings. The string has 4 variations.

Here are examples:
3"x4"
3"hx4"w
3hx4w
3x4

The width is always the first number and the height is always the second. Sometimes, the width and height have decimal points. Any way to parse this into two strings of the numeric values only?

Parse Variable Names And Operate From String?

Jun 10, 2011

I'm using a Microsoft Word form template to create objects in a form programatically, so depending on the information read by the program from the template.

So, I've got some fields where I store formula data for the form, in which I specify that the value for that field is obtained by multiplying other fields in the template. So I store in the string something like this:

"Text1.Text * Text2.Text"

So I need to convert these string values into variable calls to actually operate these values.

C# - Parse An Expression And Retrieve A Parse Tree?

Jun 8, 2012

I just want to parse simple expressions like IIF(FVAL(PFC) = TRUE, (IIF((ORGVAL(BAS, "2012/12/31") + ORGVAL(DA)) < 6500, (FVAL(BAS) + FVAL(DA)) * 12%, 780)), 0)`After parsing this I should be able to know what functions contains what parameters.

[Code]...

I'm stuck with .Net Framework 2.0, so no Linq or lambda expression goodies for me. Also I want to include the code in my custom library and not just reference it. Can anyone point me to some good library or code.

I just need to parse and not evaluate the expression and find what tokens are in use. After finding the tokens I need to change the expression string before parsing, like if the function ORGVAL is used then the parameter passed has has to be prefixed by an underscore. Like ORGVAL(BAS) will transform to ORGVAL(_BAS). Some functions can have tow parameters like ORGVAL(BAS, "2012/12/31") and this will transform to ORGVAL(_BAS, "2012/12/31")

NOTE: IF THERE ARE OTHER WAYS OF DOING IT PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I WOULD LOVE TO AVOID A PARSER AND LEXER.

Regex Replace All Characters In Variable Length String?

Oct 6, 2010

Using VB or C#, I am getting a string of variable length from the database. This information is sensitive information that only certain users will be able to see.I have two cases that will use the same logic (I think).scenario 1: replace all characters with xscenario 2: replace all characters with x except the last 4 characters (assume length > 4 - this check is being done).I thought that this would be easiest using Regex.Replace(input, pattern, replacestring). As opposed to a lot of string handling with substrings and forcing a length of 'x's.

Concatenating A Variable With A Regex Group Match In Regex.replace?

Apr 5, 2012

I am having an issue where I am using regex.Replace to replace part of a string. The basic idea is that I want to capture the beginning of the string then replace the end of the string with a value from code. For an example pretend I have a string that says "Test Number " followed by number and I want to increment that number. I capture the "Test Number " but when I try to concatenate that capture with the new number it treats the capture ($1) as a literal and replaces the entire string with $1[new number].

[code]...

This will output "We are on Test Number 2", as expected. how I can use a variable in the replacement string portion of the Regex.Replace when including a captured group?

Regex To Parse HTML Tables

Dec 19, 2010

I am trying to remove the tables within an HTML file, specifically, for the following document, I'd like to remove anything within the tags <TABLE....> and </TABLE>. The document contains multiple tables with texts in between.

The expression that I came up with, <TABLE.*>s*[s|S]*</TABLE>s*, however would remove the text in between the tables. In fact it would remove everything between the first <TABLE> and the last </TABLE> tags. I would like to keep the texts in between and only remove the tables.

VS 2008 RegEx : How To Parse This File

Apr 7, 2009

I'm messing around with regular expressions and I can't seem to figure out how to parse this file. It's basically a lua file containing a table like:

TableName = {
["QuotedString"] = {
["QuotedString"] = {

[code]....

Some things with the file are standard, like the "TableName" (Never in quotes) starts the table. Variables always have [" "] around them and then equal something like ["Test"] = 0. However, the variable could have multiple variables within it. split up the file within each {} and then try to parse each ["QuotedString-Key"] = 0?

.Net Regex To Parse Specific JSON Format

Feb 20, 2010

I'm writing a little web service which generates SO/SF/SU/MSO user flair in the form of an image with various "themes". I find this preferable to using the HTML/JS solutions offered by SO as it's more flexible and also works better in forum signatures.

I'm retrieving the data using the apparently unofficial API (More info here). I can have the data in HTML or JSON. I assumed the JSON would be easier to parse.

Unfortunately, I'm not great at regexes. and the best I can come up with is some very hacky sub-stringing. I believe a regex should be the most elegant solution

regex that matches ID, GravatarURL, ProfileURL, DisplayName, Reputation and Badge Counts (Bronze/Silver/Gold).

FWIW This is to be used in a VB.Net project (in case that affects the syntax at all)

[Code].....

In case any of you are interested, some screenshots of the flair as a work in progress are available here: Me, Jeff Atwood, Joel Spolsky

How To Retrieve And Parse HTML Data

Retrieve URL And Then Parse The HTML From The Page?

Mar 27, 2009

I'm using the following code to retrieve a URL and then parse the HTML from the page:

Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnStart.Click
Dim Temp As String, searchstr As String

[Code]....

I think my problem is that I don't exactly understand how I am supposed to start and end the parsing. I know that in my above code, the "meta" tag is the start and the chr(34), double quotes, is the ending.

When I modify my code, I have price line, which in th html ends with another character, the ">" sign. In the first code, the "content" tag doesn't end with another character, it just continues the line, which is easy and it works.

C# - Get Form Source File At Runtime From External Process In .NET?

Apr 30, 2011

I am currently working in a very large solution (120+ projects). Very often, we need to find a particular form in a large desktop application, consisting of hundreds of forms. For example, we might have a requirement to edit some controls on a certain form.We don't know the form name, but we know how to navigate to the form when running the application.

In order to identify a form, we currently try to find some unique text on the form, and then search all the source files for this string. That's not very cool.Instead, I'd like to make a little tool that can identify the source file for a form, or at least the name property of the form object. We can't add code to the solution itself, so we will have to make an external exe.

Database - Referencing A Control Programmatically With External Source

Jan 30, 2010

Here's example code, pseudo of course.

TextBox(dr(3)).Text = dr(0)

dr(3) contains the period, and dr(0) contains the content I would like to put into the text box. I have these text boxes on my form: TextBox1, TextBox2, TextBox3, TextBox4 and TextBox5.

So if dr(3) contained 2 then I would want to reference TextBox2.

Retrieve HTML Of External Javascript Popup Window?

Aug 13, 2011

I was offered this interesting scenario by a visitor of my site and have been trying a few approaches, but not seeming to get it quite right. I have a Form with a WebBrowser control (or an AxWebBrowser if that works too) and on the page loaded in the browser, is a link that uses javascript to open a new popup window. This popup window I am unable to take "ownership" of and it launches in a new instance of the user's default browser (IE for this scenario). I need to then interact with that javascript popup window which now is not part of my application. If I needed to set a value of an input box on that form, how would I accomplish that if I can't "interact" with the form?
