Database - Referencing A Control Programmatically With External Source

I have a MS Access database set up, with a Period field that has either values 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. I retrieve these values using a database connection and I would like to reference a particular control based on what period was grabbed from the database.
Here's example code, pseudo of course.
TextBox(dr(3)).Text = dr(0)
dr(3) contains the period, and dr(0) contains the content I would like to put into the text box. I have these text boxes on my form: TextBox1, TextBox2, TextBox3, TextBox4 and TextBox5.
So if dr(3) contained 2 then I would want to reference TextBox2.

1. I have a DataGridView box, that is connected to a MySQL database via the 'Data Source'. I am trying to do the datagridview1.rows.add("info here"), however i receive an error i cannot do this programmatically. I DO know the code to post to MySQL via the "insert into" la la la.However, I was curious if I can do this via the datagridview a bit..easier/simpler, such as a "datagridview1.rows.add(stuff)" sorta thing.
2. I am attempting to make a custom control, and as with ANY control, they have their.. settings. Example, a textbox, or label, has so you can set the Text. and color, etc.Others, have it (such as datagridview) have the little icon on the control itself, where you click it, and it opens a small window with settings.

In a VB.NET (3.5) Windows Forms application that, among other things, creates Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) Packages, we want to be able to support the creation of packages both for SQL Server 2005 and 2008. To create packages compatible with SQL Server 2005, functionality from external Microsoft assemblies with the specific version of 9.0.242.0 are needed, and to create packages compatible with SQL Server 2008 the same assemblies need to be referenced, but with another version number, 10.0.0.0. There does not, unfortunately, seem to be backwards compatibility in that SQL-2005 packages could be created using functionality in the newer 10.0.0.0-assemblies.
Today, we have a very inefficient way of handling this. For each new release of the app, we have to: Build two different versions of the app, one "2005-compatible .exe" and one "2008-compatible .exe", by: Manually add/remove the specific 2005/2008-references at project level (properties).Comment/uncomment respective code that is not common between the two versions of the same assemblies.At installation time of the application, figure out if the machine runs SQL Server 2005 or 2008 and then install the corresponding build/version of the app.We do not ship or install any assemblies with our application but instead rely/pre-requisite on that the machine on which we install our software has either the 2005 or 2008 assemblies installed in its GAC (depending on whether SQL Server 2005 or 2008 is installed there).
I have learned that with a few tricks it is possible to reference and use identically named assemblies with different version-numbers in the very same project. But even then if we manage to do this, since the client machine always will only have only one set of the assemblies installed in its GAC (9.0.242.0 or 10.0.0.0 versions depending on which SQL Server version it has installed), and we need to reference both sets in the project to have "full support" for both 2005 and 2008, how can we avoid potential "missing dll-messages" when the client runs the app? We do not feel very excited about having to ship/install 2005-assemblies on a 2008-server and vice-versa, that would never be used by the application, even if this would constitute a solution to the above problem.

I'm trying to use a split button from a tool strip to add and remove selected items in a listview.Users click the button to add the selected item which appears in the split button drop down menu as checked.The drop down menu has three items at any one time, each with a default value of <none> - this is replaced with the text from the listview when an item is added.When users click the item from the drop down, the item is unchecked and the text returns to <none>.
The drop down should populate from the top down so if a user removes item 1 or 2, the items below would appear to be moved up with the 3rd item now showing <none>.

I have an application right now that starts a process, then opens a file associated with that process (system.diagnostics.process.start("WM.exe")), however, the way they save, there is a window within a window. It's like in photoshop cs3 when you have many windows within the big window of the application. Right now I use an api call to findwindow which is the application itself, but within that I need to find the subwindow, of which I know the apptitle, and then I need to set its windowstate to maximized. Does anyone know how this can be done? I think there's a way to hook a handle, but how does one also maximize?

I am currently working in a very large solution (120+ projects). Very often, we need to find a particular form in a large desktop application, consisting of hundreds of forms. For example, we might have a requirement to edit some controls on a certain form.We don't know the form name, but we know how to navigate to the form when running the application.
In order to identify a form, we currently try to find some unique text on the form, and then search all the source files for this string. That's not very cool.Instead, I'd like to make a little tool that can identify the source file for a form, or at least the name property of the form object. We can't add code to the solution itself, so we will have to make an external exe.

sort the listbox that is being populated by data from an exteranl hard drive. The DB's on the Hard drive are contained in folders with a naming format as follows (Jan94 - Dec08)The issue is that on the HD all the folders(yrs) for Apr are listed together and then the rest listed the same way, just sorted based on 1st alpha character. I have checked and double checked the tab order on the controls and run traces with debug. The control found in my.forms. sessions. groupbox1 seldom returns the proper tab. Using a 'watch' I can see the tab names and the tabname (my.forms.sessions. groupbox1. controls (tabnum).name is often the incorrect one.

Part of my project is to retrieve a string variable from an external source (google docs) and parse it. This string represents width and height. I have no problem retrieving, I just need to parse it in to two strings. The string has 4 variations.
Here are examples:
3"x4"
3"hx4"w
3hx4w
3x4
The width is always the first number and the height is always the second. Sometimes, the width and height have decimal points. Any way to parse this into two strings of the numeric values only?

This is a project I am working on written in Visual Basic, using Visual Studio 2005.I have a form (FrmMain) which contains a user control (CtrlDisplay). Within the user control (CtrlDisplay) is a list box which pulls information from a database. when you click on a button it checks another database to see if you have all the required components to build the object in the list box. If you dont have the parts, a dialog box (DiaAddToList) opens up to ask you if you would like to add the missing parts to your next order.
I had this all working perfectly when I was using forms and a MDI parent container. Now I am using a single form which swaps out user controls. the issue I am running in to is, the dialog box has the button "Add to next order", which is supposed to start routine to add the objects to the inventory. using forms, it was easy to do this, on DiaAddToList, under the sub when you click the add button, the code was FrmDisplay.AddList()
Now that I have switched it to user controls I tried to put CtrlDisplay.AddList(), and it is telling me "Reference to a non shared member requires an object reference". How do I reference the CtrlDisplay. It is already open and running on FrmMain. I tried to use "Imports.MyProject.CtrlDisplay" and that didnt work.
how I can reference this? It is starting to look like I will have to put the list boxes and routines into FrmMain, but that will end up with something like 200 boxes on one form, all overlapping and making it REAL confusing.

within the SqlCeCommand framework of VB.net, I am looking for a simple coding example to return data from the last record of an SQL database. The purpose is to return the last sequential "counter" value from the primary key of the database, and then append additional records to the database, continuing the counter value from the last record. This counter value will of course vary with each update.

I've created a Custom Control, and I will be placing a large number of instances of that Custom Control on my xaml page. In working with that Custom Control in the VB Code Behind, how do I do the following?
How do I reference the name of the Custom Control (in my VB code) which was clicked with the MouseLeftButtonDown event? For example, if I have 10 instances of my Custom Control in xaml, each with a different x:name (say 1-10), when a particular instance is clicked, how can I see which one was clicked? I've tried a number of things including e.OriginalSource.Name (which returns the component within the control which was clicked and not the name of the instance of the control). My Custom Control consists of numerous parts and pieces (Rectangles, Lines, Text, etc). Each of these items is a part of my layer. In VB code, once I can reference a particular Control, how can I hide or change certain parts of that control (such as hiding a Line, and changing the text). Also, I need to modify more than just the control which was clicked, so I need to be able to access properties of all of the controls, not just what was clicked. For example, if I click Control instance Test1, I also need to modify Test2, Test3, and Test5 in some way.
Here is some test code I through together as part of a Silverlight project using MS Blend 2. My control is much larger, and I need 200 - 250 instances/copies of that custom control, so I really need to know which control instance/copy was clicked.

I am using VB 2005. I am trying to open an external program, make it invisible, and then control it. It is fine if the external program shows up in the Windows Task Manager, but I don't want anything showing up in the Windows taskbar. I already know how to open the program I want to use. I have VS 2005 installed in my sytem fyi.We have two databases, say source database and destination database. The databases is in Oracle. Now we need to pull data from Source database, manipulate it and push it into the destination database on daily basis.We are planning to use VB .Net for this and would like to know if this is feasible. I have a windows form that have 5 webbrowser control. I also have serveral links of URLs and each webbrowser will open them. My problem is that after all links already opened, when I close my windows forms, sometimes my application suddenly open my default browser automatically and open url that on my URL list. I already tried to make all webbrowser to navigate to "about:blank"to make sure there are not loading any webpage before I close my application but the problem is still occur. This has given me a headache since this problem is not always occur when I close my application.

I am trying to read data from an external device using MSComm control but the problem is I am getting wrong data. I am recieving 1 byte data but the first three bits are wrong so anything greater than 31 sent from the external devices is recieved wrongly. eg. if I am sending 63(111111) from the device then the input from MSComm control gives me 159(10011111).Due to this reason I tried SerialPort from .Net framework and was surprised to see that it is working properly.

I'm looking for adding a control on top of others controls during runtime.
I read that the only way of playing with the Z-Order of controls is by playing with the order of the controls inside the Form.Controls Collection. I find this solution very weird and weak and I'm looking for an alternative.
Does anyone has an idea? I just want to make some kind of modal dialog that'll show below another user control to notice the user that the user control is currently doing something.
Edit: I tried using Control.BringToFront() but it doesn't work at all.

I am trying to use a grid to display datasets. The database that I am using is not on my local machine. I have to dial in and log in to the database. We are using an image database. I was shown by my boss that he uses MSFlexGrid, but it appears that is no longer available on the newer versions of Visual Studio (he is using VB6). I was wondering if there was a way to display these grids without going through the Data Sources?

At my house we got 6 computers and 5 laptops. Not I want to be able to control them remotely without using external dekstop management or something else. So i can control when my kids can use the computer or not
So I came up with the idea of creating an irc server that listens to commands that I type from my main computer. The commands are no problem for me to program but the irc server itself looks pretty hard. I've been looking on google but cant find a good source to learn it. some other ideas than using irc protocol?
