Unauthorized Access Trying To Change Remote Registry On Xp Machines?
May 4, 2011I'm trying to write a console application that can modify registry subkeys on remote pc's in the same network. I have it working in my own environment but when I install on the customer machines I'm getting unauthorized access when it hits the OpenRemoteBaseKey. The security settings in the application properties is set to full trust application so I'm not sure why it won't work.
I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and first I just installed it on the customer machine and when it wouldn't work I ran the source code in Visual Studio 2005 which is on the customer machine but got same results.I can run the app directly on the remote machine and it will change the registry subkeys as directed, I just can't do it remotely. RemoteRegistry service is started. Both machines are logged in as administrators.

Remote Windows Registry Keys?
Dec 28, 2009I am working on a program that needs to fetch remote windows pc's particular registry keys and then be able to modify them (for example the Run registry key). From what I have been reading I would need to use the OpenRemoteBaseKey to do so.
What I am not sure about is how do I have the program search the network for all of the Windows computers and generate a checklist when the computer names and IP addresses are not known ?
also for the OpenRemoteBaseKey to work do I have to know the password for the administrator account for each PC ?

I have no problem doing it locally but cannot get the system.management name space to do the same remotely. The value of sSubKeyName is the user's SID + "" + Network (e.g. S-1-5-21-1606980848-2025429265-839522115-560021Network). Now under that key are various subkeys containing mapped drive letters. But it never returns anything.
Strangely, if I use the OpenRemoteBaseKey method it works BUT I don't want to use that because using WMI lets me specify alternate credentials and OpenRemoteBaseKey doesn't

Access Remote Sql Server Using .NET?
Apr 16, 2009I've found a few examples of using vb.net to access an sql database, so far none of them have worked . They all involve using DataReaders. Maybe its the fact that the sql db is not on the same machine as the application.I was just wondering if anyone had a more comprehensive example of using VB.NET to access a remote sql server.
EDIT:I've received a few helpful comments an replies already. So far my connection string looks like:
"server=sqlblah.myhost.com;uid=myuser;pwd=pass;database=testdb"
Probably also good to mention their is no editing of the tables a this point, just reading.

Dec 23, 2010I have a web site that connects to a remote SQLServer, and is running just fine.I have some pretty simple 'batch' type tasks that I want to run (as a Windows application) on a scheduler (I'm more comfortable with VB so I prefer that).
Looks like VB Express won't allow me to access the remote data. Everything seems to be pointing to having to buy VS Professional for $545 (I don't have an original one to upgrade). Is there a more economical VB option?

This works great against my Windows 2008 machine but I get an access denied when executing against my Windows 2003. The access denied is thrown when connecting the scope in the code below. Nov 6, 2010I have an existing VB6 application which permits two or more users to work with local relicated MS Access databases. At start-up and shut down the local database synchronize with the master database (if the network permits dialogue) using
mDb1.Synchronize etc.
I am trying to port the application over to VS2010 and I cannot find anything equivalent to permit occasional synchronizing of various replicated MS Access databases with the master database (again, if the network permits contact between the two machines). Has anyone found a way of doing this for Access databases (not SQL Server databases)?
Works fine in VB6 but VS2010 has me beaten at the moment.
